April 2021 Update - Patch Notes Discussion

All rulesets now feature the buffed Gathering Storm version of the Mission
It didn't make the patch notes but the Mission is unlocked at Education now.

Did anyone confirm if Atlantis appears with SS turned on?
I've conducted a quick, one could say brute force, exploration efforts playing with Mali and the Netherlands. I didn't found Atlantis, but there's a lot of Ley Lines in Russia :p

It took 3 minutes and 20 seconds for the TSL Huge Earth map to load on Switch. It took 16 seconds to get to turn 2. Methinks this map won’t do well on Switch. Boo.

The machine didn’t blow up though so I guess that’s one positive.

I feel Bannockburn has been criminally underrated by the community at large since ever. Make more friends. Stick up for the little guy. Be happy.

As an unabashed Scotland lover, I can't agree with this. The bonus is way too difficult to trigger because it is not uncommon for the AI to rarely (or never) capture cities from one another. I've had entire games pass where I have not had a single opportunity to use it. Also, when you can use it, it creates a perverse incentive to declare a war of liberation but not actually liberate the city (since then after 10 turns you can make peace, wait 10 turns, and do it again). So it's either unused or abused.

There's an incredible amount of bugfixes missing in this update, we can only hope that patching will continue. As for a much more user-friendly UI, I lost all hope, sadly.
So I'm off to explore what that new 'Pet' button does, for now, maybe I'll get petted back, to lift my spirits?.. :D

Why do people hate great things like this??

Can't speak for other people but Babylon is kind of boring. Sure it's fun the first time or two but the novelty runs out pretty quickly and they don't have a lot besides that.

TSL Mediterranean supports:
Macedon, Gaul, Byzantium, France, Egypt, Persia, Phoenicia, England, Germany, Sumeria, Greece, Babylon, Poland, Portugal, Hungary, Spain, Arabia, Ottomans, Georgia, and Rome. It also supports the city-states Akkad, Bologna, Brussels, Cardiff, Fez, Geneva, Granada, Hattusa, Jerusalem, Preslav, Valletta, Vatican City, Venice, and Yerevan.
Way more European civs than I thought. Surprised at England, Germany and Poland. Should have added Norway while they were at it so the Vikings could reach. :mischief:

I'm assuming 20 considering that's the maximum number for all huge maps to begin with?

I think a mod was interfering with that. And I have a buggy mod already (not sure which one), annoying when all my mods load with game updates.

Still need to run jersey overhaul with this many civs though.

edit: nevermind, the 20 restriction is back (had to re-setup due to messing up some settings). Hmmm.

What a weird Poland change. The culture bomb change is pointless, does nothing. But the Winged Hussar being now (accurately) a Renaissance unit, and a more accessible one at that? The cost is irrelevant considering Poland's massive Faith economy. Going for a Domination play style and taking Crusade, you have an easily-acquired 74+ combat strength unit before the Industrial era. Not the buff I expected, but welcome, if still not quite enough. All Poland really needs is a boost to the production cost of certain districts, or an easier way to get a few relics.

Just checked and still no map search function on PS4.:crazyeye:

I'm fine with the Poland changes.
From a historical perspective it's fine that they changed it to where you don't need to found a religion in order for it to work, because it's not like Poland did found Catholicism, and of course the Winged Hussar changes.

That being said it might be unreliable, but as one of the few civs with bonuses toward relics, I don't think it would have hurt if they gave them the Prasat's old ability with martyr missionaries.

Agree. I also don't consider a slight alteration to start bias a rebalance (e.g. Germany and Australia). Those aren't bad changes, but it does seem like hyping it that 2/3 of all civs will get rebalanced and then only making meaningful changes to about 10 civs is a bit disingenuous.
  • U-Boat: No longer requires Oil.

Is anyone else noticing some typos in the new civilization descriptions?

Poland change makes Poland even weaker - founded religion should be priority. Poland even weaker than prior to "balance"

No weakening of top civs except Russia
Instead:
Australia boosted
Inca massively boosted
Sumeria massively boosted
Scythia boosted

Weak civs still trash except Maya, Khmer and Spain:
England
Georgia
France
Norway
Scotland

With so many bias balances still lacking strong bias for pastures fir Cree

With so many units changes still lacking recon bost, fe. allow normal exp gains above level1 on barbarians

When to expect rebalance of rebalance?

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTT? This is AMAZING!!!!!

My reaction exactly. I had to read it twice because I was confused as to why they didn't consider it worthy of being mentioned either in the update video or the livestream.

As for the Netherlands, I think it's fine and the +2/+2 is exactly what I asked for some time ago and is significant enough even if not OP. The only thing that I dislike about the Netherlands is that I very often don't get to enjoy their fun unique improvement due to the restrains on placement.

Also, is there a clear explanation of the tier system for start bias? I'm not sure if this patch makes it more or less likely for Germany to get a river start than before, lol.
