[NFP] April Update Video

Does this patch's changes effect your opinions on the New Frontier Pass? Presumably had this been an expansion, they would have come out at the same time, and my inclination is always to include free changes with evaluation of expansions (separating them out is headache inducing, and ignores the way paid contents fund other development).

I was quite happy with it already, so I guess this just makes me a bit happier?

Very probable candidates in the Mediterranean map:
Portugal, Spain, France, Gaul, Rome, Greece, Macedon, Hungary, Georgia, Byzantium, Ottoman, Phoenicia!, Egypt, Nubia

Possible others:
Arabia, Germany, Babylon, Poland, Netherlands, Mali, Persia
Yet further proof we need more North Africa!

I'm slightly concerned about time balance. With the extra units, time spent with each unit will be even less than before. A bonus for the science and trade civs I guess. Might make things even harder for AI domination.

It appears the Chemamull now gives +1 Production as well. Useless Bonus and useless fact, I know, but I just wanted to mention it. :P

I'm just hoping they go over unique unit upgrades and make them work the way they should. Varus and Mamalik should be able to become Cuirassers, Malon Raiders should be able to become Cavalries, and there's probably more I'm forgetting.

So I wonder if among the 2/3 of civs will be some where the only update is the unique unit replacing a different one. I could for sure see that for Victoria and Hojo for example.

Also good move by firaxis putting buffs first - everyone loves buffs but nerfs will be more controversial...

Congrats to @charrison on the new role!

Otherwise, loving the look of the changes. Especially if these new units will help out those missing gaps in the tech tree. The civs they previewed all look like solid changes to me, I'm excited to see the full list. I definitely want to give the Khmer a go now - I mean, say you can squeeze a holy site on a river and an aqueduct in your cities, with river Goddess. You'll overflow. And the Parasat being +6 faith, I would think that would apply to Choral Music, so to me that seems like the bonus they should be rushing to. Although Feed the World for them could probably give their cities stupid housing early on, as each holy site is now going to be something like +2 amenities, +6 housing, +9 or more food, plus whatever you get from your religious bulding. Having +1 amenity to the aqueduct will help too, and you'll get +1 faith per pop, +0.5 culture per pop. Give me the right start, and rush for Temple of Artemis, and I bet someone's going to get a medieval-era 20-pop Khmer city.

I guess I'm looking at the recent changes as a whole--monarchy changes really makes them interesting.

Faith from kills sets up chance for a super early pantheon though.

Sure, Monarchy is much better now but every civ and use it and while an early pantheon is nice the ability is going to be hit or miss the longer the game goes on and you might never get a chance to use it.

Really wish they would stick to a consistent phrasing but I guess not.

Whoever is coming up with phrasing used in the videos over the last couple of months really needs to become a lawyer because they are great with the weasel words.

Of the ones revealed only the Khmer look like they actually improved by a decent amount instead of just a nice bonus here or there. The changes to Georgia are kind of, insulting is too strong of a word, but man it looks like they put zero effort into it.

Unless the pre-GS unique units are properly integrated into the GS units, so a Mamluk upgrades into a Cuirasser instead of a tank, then I really don't care about any new units. Also, if the men-at-arms are unlocked with Military Tactics then I'm probably never going to use them. That is like the worst tech in the game.

Seriously? They got rid of the dumb protectorate war crap that is hardly used and now give you a bonus you can use a lot!

Huh.... bit weird to see Maori warriors to have a stage using iron weapon instead of going straight to gunpowder but k.
I mean there might be a possibility it's not the case, considering the Domrey currently doesn't upgrade straight into the Bombard.

I mean, this is a game where the Cree can create Tanks and the Scythians can discover Mercantilism, so I don't see why this couldn't happen. :P

That's it? These devs get so exited about the smallest of things....
This is most certainly NOT it. The devs mentioned balance changes to roughly 2/3 of the civs and they only mention a handful in the video.
