Ara - civ and leaders discussion/prediction

This still bothers me. He hated Australia, and did everything he could to get away, and stay away.

Although I'm not Argentinian, I don't understand the fetish many 4X game advocates have with having Argentinian civ's led by Eva Peron - the pretty face of her husband's Fascism!

I was wondering if Dame Nellie Melba would be a better option... or Ned Kelly?
There's so many great options.

David Ngunaitponi of the Ngarrindjeri nation was an indigenous inventor, lecturer, advocate, and preacher. He is known as the Australian Di Vinci. He'd make a great choice.

Alright this last video confirmed that the Shongai leader is actually Askia Muhammad I, with that (if you don't count Eva Perón, Jonh A. Macdonald and Benito Juárez who didn't get their names shown in the UI) the only mysteries left are who is the Inca leader that seens to be an Sapa Inca, and who is the white dress East Asian lady (most likely another Korean leader). Also, Alexander is confirmed as another leader for Greece, so no Macedon this time (despite we getting an separeted HRE from Germany). So 45 leaders and 40 nations:

The other possible Korean leader could be Shin Saimdang, I guess. Her historical portrait looks pretty like that female leader's: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shin_Saimdang ; https://www.google.com/search?q=신사임당&tbm=isch ; https://www.korea.net/NewsFocus/HonoraryReporters/view?articleId=195664

She was a Korean artist, literatus, and calligraphist. And she's on the South Korean banknotes. If it's really her, that also meets a current common rule for other dual-leader civs--one leader is from the political and/or military area, and the other is a civilian who's outstanding in science/tech-engineering or in culture and arts.

Or maybe Yu Gwan Sun, also got a portrait similar to the white dress lady in the game. She was a Korean independence activist known as the "Korean Joan of Arc". A good choice to represent Korea too. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yu_Gwan-sun ; https://www.google.com/search?q=유관순&tbm=isch ; https://news.kbs.co.kr/news/pc/view/view.do?ncd=4205161

Apart from some very loose approach to the leaders - Copernicus for Poland, I mean c'mon.
This game certainly looks and sounds good.

Xbox Wire posted a screenshot showing the Incan leader is Pachacuti. https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2024/06/12/ara-history-untold-release-date-multiplayer-details/

Ok, so yeah now we know the full roster I think, but just complementing the news before that, Ara did have these 2 videos that wheren't posted here
Now the roster with everyone being confirmed with ingame UI, execept by the Korean lady, as ZDY said above, she looks like either Shin Saimdang or Yu Gwan-sun, but considering the simpler hairstyle shown the portraids it looks more like Yu, so I'm betting one her

What the hell?!? There are 45 leaders, 40 civilizations and not one Turkish not even a Turkic civilization?
Perhaps as a Turk this is my bias and I dont want to come out as a d*ck but I sure feel like we have been way more influential in world history than at least some of these civilizations? Seljuks, Timurids, Ottomans, Turkey, Gokturks, Mamluks, Mughals... none of them made it? Even Huns although there is debate regarding who they exactly were... I would have taken it?

I mean no hate for them but there is Georgia, Venezuela, Ghana, Argentina, ''The Apsáalooké''... I am sure we could have made it into the list with at least one civ :(

I agree it should be included, but I would also point out what I have said when this kind of question comes up with civ: I don't see the list of civs as a statement on which civs were the most important or influential in history. Civs, or in this case, Nations, may be included for a variety of reasons, including things like importance, but also just variety, flavour, novelty, and maybe market appeal. That's why we can get something like Norway in Civ 6. I have no illusion that my country of 5,5 million people is among the most important in the world, but for Civ 6, it was chosen to represent the Norse/Vikings, to add that particular flavour to the game.

Hopefully, Turkey or something related will be added later. Maybe to highlight some new gameplay features in a future expansion? For example, in Civ 6 the Ottomans were a siege focused civ. If there were an expansion focusing on military and combat, it might make sense to use the Ottomans as part of that. If there were new mechanics related to raiding and pillaging, a Viking nation might make sense.

Also, I suspect they may intentionally hold back on some major civs, so as not to be left with only small ones for expansions.

It might not be the final list of leaders or civs though, we still have to wait for the finished product. Otherwise, if this is the final list, I share your disappointment. It's most likely that they'll have the Ottomans or any other Turkic group for an expansion.

It looks like this list already includes dlcs. :(

I agree. Turkey must be in. :yup:

The thing about it is that this list, in the end, is mostly speculation. We wouldn't 100% know unless we actually play the game. Also it's not confirmed from the list which ones are going to be in a DLC. In fact we don't know if they are going to be DLCs in the future. The DLCs that we know of so far are the pre-order bonuses.

I don't think we should assume about what nations and leaders are going to be in a future DLC if we don't have 100% confirmation of anything. Let's not jump to conclusions.

You can find it on steam which leaders are in the dlc.

For those looking to expand their leader roster, both the Deluxe and Premium Editions offer the
Exclusive Leader Collection
. This collection introduces five new playable leaders - Charlemagne, Genghis Khan, Yoo Gwan-Soon, Hildegard, and Boudicca - each with their own unique leader traits and abilities.

Yeah, there is the one leader pack as launch DLC. But it is fair to assume that there will be more released as future DLC, or alongside expansions. I wouldn't mind seing a Norse leader at some point. :-)
