Inspired by this thread.

It seems like nobody wants to admit that they might have any hidden prejudices. It's odd how even the most obvious racists vehemently deny that they are at all concerned with race, because "it sounds bad". It doesn't sound bad if it's the truth, IMO.

The Implicit Association Test

We played around with this my freshman year of college. It's a little tedious and imperfect but I wanted something work with. The ninth test (Race IAT) is the one to take for this, but I'd be curious to see the results of the others. They say they take about 10 minutes, but I think it took me less than five.

Interestingly, a lot of people seem to get upset at the results when they don't like them. Check out the comments pages on that website - people are actually offended when somebody suggests that they might have some biases.

The poll is anonymous, so please be honest, no one's going to know. On the other hand, I'd encourage you to post with your result and whether you agree with it. Props to anyone who has biases and can come out and admit it.

Edit: For the record, the test told me I had no preference, but I think that I am slightly biased against some groups.

The test, when I took it last, indicated that I was slightly prejudiced against white people.

I haven't taken the test, but I used to be a bit of a Japanophobe. I'm over that now, though - merely youthful stupidity.

I think this test is terrible flawed.

Your data suggest a moderate automatic preference for European American compared to African American.

Thank you for your participation. Just below is a breakdown of the scores generated by others. Most respondents find it easier to associate African American with Bad and European American with Good compared to the reverse.

I think this is because they switched up the order. Fior instance, I was first asked to press "e" for bad words and "i" for good (those who take the test know what I mean). Then, it was "e" black people and "i" for white people. Then, it did "e" for bad and black, and "i" for good and white. Then, it switched it up with "e" for good and black and "i" for bad and white. Apparently, becuase I was slower at matching up good words with black people then I was at good words with white people, I am moderately racist. However, my delay was caused by the fact that good words were now "e" when they had always been previously "i," and I had to stop my impulse to contniue pressing the same key that I had pressed earlier.

You have completed the African American - European American IAT.

I agree. This test is not very accurate.

The link isn't working for me either. Is this the same test?

EDIT: Sigh, server unavailable too. Maybe too many of us are trying to take it :)

I think another interesting thing to measure is how many people think the test is inaccurate when it shows they give a preference to white people... ;)

The test does not indicate whether or not I'm racist, thus I cannot answer it.

The test indicates whether you have a preference for one group over another. If it says you've got a preference, we're going to call that racism for the purpose of the poll. The test could be total bull, but it's something to work with. The poll is imperfect, but it's something to work with.

I knew that would get brought up.

For me, it's more of a cultural isssue. Right now there is a culture that demonizes education and puts violence and drugs in a positive light. It just so happens that the culture (and the related increase in crime) has a stong correlation with black people (although it can be seen with every race to a certain extent).

I'm racist since people think illegal alien, muslim, and palistinian are races.

The test was extremely boring so I quit. I don't really care about races, people are people everywhere.
