Art and Lore

Elves.

I suppose, with Elves, Undead and Human I'll fit to the similar principle (same as dwarves): square overlay frame, which changes for Great versions

Sounds good. ;)

The Elves look great, sorry the reply took so long; Working on things. :mischief:

Edit: Updated one of the first posts to show all the specialist art. ;)

Thanks to some major help from Odalrick, I can proudly say that the new specialist button system is in place; It is very easy to add new buttons for specific civs (one line), and works fairly automatically. I'm going to need to give the buttons some more space (borders on the square icons aren't showing, which is bad as that's the difference between specialists and settled GP's, other than location), but that's fairly simple.

Screenshot of the Dwarves (I've added the Elves, Lizards, and Demons, as well as the newer Dwarven art, just don't have screenshots):

Also, you need to check, how the Add Great Person ability button works. It looked pretty weird, when I tried to test this new pictures...

I was afraid that's what these buttons were going to be used for.

I am sorry, I do not like this change. The specialist art is iconic. It is easy to recognize what was a scientist and what was an engineer. In this screenshot it just looks like a bunch of brown. I guess if it were full size it would look like a bunch of dwarves at best.

I'm all for changing the art of the units, or the unit icons, but not in the city screen.

You know, I had the same concern when I started redrawing them. But after I play-tested them, I've found, that, actually, dwarves and elves are quite recognisable and you get used to new icons in 5-10 minutes (actually, they're no less iconic than official ones - you recognise the guy in blue as a priest only because you're used to that; not because of the icon itself); especially because each has it's own colour. I'm more worried about lizardmen and demons - maybe, I'll end up remaking them from scratch.

In History of Three Kingdoms mod redrawn specialists created no issues, despite the facts that they, basically, looked like a bunch of medieval Chinese. So, I'd ask you not to jump to conclusions before you actually playtest new system.

Honestly, I wouldn't be (aside from maybe the settled GP's for the Demons, but not the standard specialists); All the sets you've made have different coloration for each specialist (Whether the border, the background, or whatever) and you've kept to that color for all specialists. IMO, that's enough of a 'common thread' (particularly when combined with order of placement, which is ALWAYS the same, and corresponds to the XML) for them to be easily recognizable.

I also love how you've kept the same names for the icons... Means when I add a new set, all I need to change is one folder path. From Dwarven to Demons, or Elven, or whatever.

My only remark is to perhaps redo all the background colors on all the specialists to be consistent on the background color.

I would suggest:
Orange/Brown for Engineers (or Blue like production meter)
Purple for Bards (Purple = culture)
Golden/yellow for merchants
White for healers (white = medicine/healing,purity,etc)
Blue for priests (unless engineers get blue)
Green for Sages (like research color)
and Gray for Citizens.

I tried to. Not possible sometimes - color becomes to close to the colour of the figure :(

I can try one more time, after I finish with the Humans (I keep the source files, so that shouldn't be hard)

Got bored this morning, decided to try it out:

Not much difference between white and grey, so the healer got red instead, like the :health:.

Priest got black, since the engineer is blue.

I love the idea with the new art, great work VSPavlov!
And I also love the idea with the same background color for same specialists!

The only thing I would like to see is a star for all super spicialists (elves, demons) but the rest is really great.

The ones you mention have a different background border. ;)

yes, but i also think it is not as good as the star. if i see a specialist with a star i know it's a super specialist (SS), without star it is a normal specialist.
why not just adding the star for all SS (in addition to the different borders)?

I suppose, that's possible. I like the star design, I've received for Undead, and it's possible to use them for all the others too.

It looks, like I'll have to make quite a revision on most of the already done pictures)

Here are ready Humans, Dwarves, Elves and Undead (all updated, recolored to the matching backgrounds, with stars for great persons). In my opinion they're ready for including into the mod.

I'll fix Demons and Lizardmen and upload them later.

Maybe, also I'll need to make an additional pack of Human pictures to be used for "Add Great Person" ability.
