As someone who has interest in archaeology, I'm rather disappointed by the artifacts in-game. They seem to repeat and most of them are generic.

Here's a list of the current artifacts (let me know if I missed any):
Amphora (Classical)
Aspis (Classical)
Astrolabe (Renaissance)
Bracelet (Classical)
Broadsheet (Industrial)
Chalice (Medieval)
Clock (Industrial)
Doubloon (Renaissance)
Earring (Renaissance)
Flintlock Pistol (Industrial)
Fresco (Renaissance)
Halberd (Renaissance)
Javelin (Ancient)
Longsword (Medieval)
Map (Industrial)
Mask (Ancient)
Mosaic (Classical)
Mummy (Ancient)
Necklace (Industrial)
Plate Mail (Medieval)
Scroll (Ancient)
Signet Ring (Medieval)
Silver Coin (Medieval)
Stone Tablet (Ancient)

So the purpose of this thread is to suggest new artifacts. I prefer more recognizable ones. We can represent cultures which can't be made into a Civ (ex: Minoans, Indus Valley, Olmecs, etc). You can also suggest new relics. Most of them are based on Christianity. It would be nice to have other religions represented.

Here's a list of the current Relics (feel free to let me know if I missed any):
Ark of the Covenant
Beard of the Evangelist
Blood of the Martyr
Bones of the Magi
Book of Thoth
Chains of the Apostle
Cincture of the Theotokos
Eight-Hand Mirror
Footprint of the Apostle
Grapevine Cross
Grass Cutting Sword
Gundestrup Cauldron
Holy Grail
Holy Lance
Philosopher's Stone
Robes of the Guru
Saint Aubert's Skull
Sandals of the Prophet
Shroud of Turin
Silk Texts
Splinter of the True Cross
Stone of Scone
Tooth of the Prophet

There is an old thread in which some people have suggested ideas for artifacts. I posted some there, maybe it might be useful. It is from civilization 5, however.

Link

Thanks! I'll take a look.

What's the probability of dead people being added as artifacts? That would open up things like bog bodies, Kennewick Man, Ötzi, the Tarim Basin mummies, etc.

I've included several remains of dead people on my wishlist. I haven't added Kennewick Man though. It might be best to avoid the Native American remains.

It hasn't earned anyone any good will, but genetic testing has determined that Kennewick Man wasn't related to modern Native Americans. Many Native Americans are a little touchy about the idea that Native Americans originate in Asia or that there was a migration before theirs. Honestly, Kennewick Man looks like Patrick Stewart--but the weird part of that isn't that Kennewick Man looks white; it's that if Patrick Stewart got a really dark tan and black eye contacts he could pass as Native American much better than many Native American imposters I've seen (*cough*Jamake Highwater*cough*).

Still, I don't think anyone is claiming the bog bodies, Ötzi, or the Tarim Basin mummies as sacred ancestors (despite the fact that many bog bodies and Ötzi have living relatives, whereas Kennewick Man does not), so there you go. :p

Then, who was he related to? Europeans? :p I'm guessing Ainu or possibly Australian Aboriginals.

Okay, I looked up this Jamake Highwater guy. I despise those Pretendians. I would never claim Native American ancestry.

Kennewick Man? No, not Europeans. It's been a while, but if I'm not mistaken his closest living relations were taken to be the Ainu of Japan.

I just looked it up. It looks like my information is out of date. DNA testing determined that Kennewick Man is "more closely related" to modern Native Americans than to other population groups. But I was right: initial tests pointed to Ainu and Polynesians.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Patrick Stewart does look like he has a bit of non-European ancestry. :p

And we wonder why Chakotay is such an insufferable stereotype. :p

Keira Knightley, too--especially in her chin/lips/jaw. But as far as I know, both of them are 100% English.

I never noticed it with Keira Knightley. However, Ezra Miller (the Flash actor), looks mixed also.
