Asian Mod

Thanks, right now I want to release a Beta version before summer, which will probably just be two eras, Ancient and Medieval.

For Religion here is what I am thinking:
Islam SE: Arabic Mercenaries
Islam Philippians: Moro Warrior
Hindu India: Rajput but they were only in the North, so I'm thinking about a fictional warrior Pujari that I could also use in SE Asia.

Will the Great Wall be an actual geographical feature (sort of impassable terrain), a wonder, or perhaps both?
I was planning on a Wonder. But it could be both.

Not sure if this will be of any use, but I just converted resources from CTP2, which include civilopedia icons. Theres a few Asian themed resources, such as jade, medicinal herbs, tea, etc. At the moment they're still in the Moderation Queue (how long does it usually take?)

Looks really good. If you want the landmark mountains to stand out more, you could use the thicker grey mountains we also used in MEM II as the standard mountains. That way especially the Guilin mountains will look special.

I'm not sure I like the idea of "crusader" units. I mean, Buddhist Crusaders? Sounds odd to me.

By crusaders I just mean a religious warrior unit that will be built by a monastery.
Buddhism in East Asia has several monk warriors, the Sohei and Yamabushi of Japan, or the Shaolin Monks of China. Although the Sohei are more like the crusaders of Europe, like during the Ikko-Ikki movement

Meet Ashoka of India.

This is my first time using M4, I'm used to M2, but it seems most people like the more realistic faces of M3 and M4, so I decided to switch. It's also been a long time since I made heads.
What do you think?

Asoka looks a lot more realistic than your older one (which is still great). Good to see you making LHs again. :)

Nice, but the beard on the Southern Indian leader needs to be textured IMO - it looks a bit Styrofoam when contrasted with the rest of his hair :)

The background is a Buddhist stupa constructed by Ashoka. Ashoka was also famous for putting up pillars similar to the Greeks, with lions on top of them. Ashoka reigned 100 years after Alexander conquered the northern region next to modern day India. And many styles of Greek art affected Buddhism.

But I'm not happy with either one's background.

You are absolutely correct Shiro. In fact, Ashoka's greatest legacy is his pillars which were constructed all over Northern India. His history was written on them. This was his greatest pillar.

BTW I like them both. The one on the right reflects his character and demeaner in his early reign and the the left one is representative of him after the conversion. Although the left one looks more like it should be his son. Make that one a little older.

@Guardian, they are different rulers, the left is Ahoka, the right is the Southern Indian leader (I don't know who yet). But I'll make him older and makes some other changes if you think they look like the same person.

You do know that Ashoka was not a very nice person before he converted to Buddism. I remember reading that in his early reign, he had something like 500 wives. There was a small group of them that really pissed him off and he had them all burned alive. I also remember reading about him testing the loyalty of his ministers and finding that some were not loyal, had ALL killed.
He was known as Ashoka the Fierce. After his conversion to Buddism, he was completely different and even outlawed the killing of animals except for certain exceptions for sustenance.

That's why I thought they were both Ashoka. The one on the right would make an excellent early Ashoka and the one the right would be great for the later Ashoka, and yes, make him look a little older. ;)
