It's kind of retro-style now, we don't do it much anymore.
The entire picture is full of symbols which mean a lot for people who grew up in 80-s. Father Frost figurine under the fir, vase with tangerines, little wooden chair with Olympic mascot. I can even recognize some toys on the tree and a movie TV is showing! :)

Yes it looks very similar to what Christmas setting looked like in Poland during the 80's . Citrus fruits were the very symbol of that period (I don't think we had Father Frost though) ;) I was born in 1985 so around that time and well into the 90's my Christmas looked like on that picture , that is why I feel the "magic" emanating from it. I remember dad having very similar B&W TV but when I was 5 years old we switched to Elektron-382 ! The best TV ever ! :D

btw. What's the movie ? :D

Russian WWII spy classic: Seventeen Moments of Spring. Unfortunately couldn't find one with English voicing, just the subtitles. What captivated me, among other things, is the realism of how German military was portrayed: intelligent, cunning and ruthless.

It's called sometimes "The Soviet James Bond", although it is quite different from Bond movies. Hands down the best tv series in this genre I've ever watched.
Interesting plot, very good actors, good music. I agree that portrayal of Nazi top officials (most notably, the main antagonist Heinrich Mueller, chief of Gestapo) was different from most of earlier Soviet war movies. They used to be shown either like stupid clowns or cartoonish insane monsters, but in this case they look much more realistic - smart and dangerous.

From movie sountracks, valtz of Michael Tariverdiev.

Stirlitz wakes up to find out he has been arrested. “Who got me? Which name should I use?” he wonders. “Let’s see. If they wear black uniforms, I’ll say I’m Standartenführer Stirlitz. If they wear green uniforms, I’m Colonel Isayev”. The door opens and a policeman in a blue uniform comes in saying: “You really should ease up on the vodka, Comrade Tikhonov!”

Maxim Isayev walked around Washington DC and everything irritated him. This stupid red wig, new suite instead of Standartenfuehrer uniform and that he must speak English for another 4 years.

Another modern one:
Only Americans can be so naive to believe a man with name Mueller would be able to expose Russian agent.

I thought you said Putin was leaving at the end of hes term ?

Russian President Vladimir Putin has pulled the trigger on the early stages of a plot to retain his iron grip over the country well after his term expires in 2024, in a day of dramatic political turmoil.
In a shock announcement, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev announced his government would resign, allowing Putin to appoint a new administration just as he proposes major constitutional changes that could set the controversial leader up for an enduring rule over Russia and the international arena.
The Kremlin swiftly revealed tax commissioner Mikhail Mishustin - a virtual unknown in Russia - would be installed as prime minister.

Putin proposed a suite of constitutional changes that would crimp the authority of future presidents in favour of placing more power in the hands of prime ministers and parliaments.
Some of the proposed changes include limiting future presidents to a maximum of two total terms in office, strengthening the State Council advisory body, and letting the parliament choose prime ministerial and cabinet candidates instead of the president.

The resignation gave Putin the power to appoint a new prime minister who may then go on to become president post-2024 but in a much diminished position of authority. At the end of his presidential term, Putin could then become prime minister

Sounds like the changes he proposes will ensure that he leaves at the end of this term.

FSB has the reputation of repackaged slightly nicer KGB. Some of the dirty work in Russia guess who probably does it?
KGB was respected. FSB is not.

KGB was competent. FSB is not.

KGB was honorable and incorruptible. FSB is a pathetic organization afraid and going panic because of one random shooter.

Come on, this naiveté is unbecoming of you. Leaving the office of president does not mean giving up control over the country.
Especially when the new constitution leaves the president as a mere figurehead.
I bet very few people know who was head of state of USSR during WW2, for example. :)
