Since we have a Hindu, Catholic and Protestant its time for a Sunni Muslim thread.I'm not really religious but I know enough, the answers are my personal views or the views of my Islamic community.

Are there Muslim followers in every nation and why is there a sunni/shia split?

The OP is clearly qualified to provide explanation and analysis of the topic. There can be no question.

No there aren't any in the Vatican, the Sunni/shia split happened when one faction of Islam didn't recognize Muhammades pbuh successor Abu Bakr (that our prophet on his death bed appointed), they think Ali (the son in law) should have been the first in line to succeed Muhammad pbuh, but he did become the fourth "rightful" Caliph. And a few cultural differences

Why are you a muslim ?
"My parents are muslims" doesn't count.

So what muslims believe? Do all the other faith followers go to Hell after they die?

what do you mean special, if you're talking in comparison to the other two Abrahamic faiths, the fact that we have one more prophet and a few other things.

i believe theres more to life than the abrahamic faiths. you make this topic about your faith, so i ask you what you consider to be special about it. i welcome you to describe special religious conjecture, practical aspects of the faith, its impact on society, and anything else. the stage is yours

What does "pbuh" mean?

Are there any theological/doctrine/practice-related differences between Sunnis and Shiites, or is it all political hangover from way-back when?

What does "pbuh" mean?
"Peace be upon him": it's tacked on to every mention of Muhammad and (often) other prophets like Jesus and Moses.

I live in Turkey which is kind of a "light Musilm" country and I think Bosnia probably is too from what I've heard. So I'm curious, you're a bit young but does your family drink alcohol? Are you learning to read Arabic? How many surahs have you memorized and how often do you pray? Do you hear the azan in Bosnia? I'm just asking out of curiosity, not saying you have to do it.

Most Muslims I know in Turkey almost never pray, can't read Arabic, many don't even know how to pray properly and many drink alcohol. However, you do hear the azan broadcast from livespeakers 5 times a day.

During Ramazan people go around with drums at 2am. Do they do that in Bosnia? One of my friends from Croatia went to Sarajevo recently and he said it was like an Eastern country but that's just his perception.

Do a lot of women wear hijab in Bosnia? In western Turkey maybe half or more of the women don't wear it but I'm currently in eastern Turkey and a large number of older women are totally covered except for their eyes.

There's such a huge variety in the practices of Islam based on where you live. The Saudi Muslims go to other Muslim countries and try to make everyone follow their type of Islam. In Turkey many people go to the tombs of holy men and pray which is totally against Saudi (wahabi) Islam. Do people do that in Bosnia?

Do you have any sort of theological credentials, or is this simply "ask the opinions of a person who happens to be a Muslim?" Because from what I remember (and what your profile confirms), you are a 15 year old child. So unless you have been an imam or your father is some sort of character in the Muslim community, I and many others here probably know more about the Muslim faith than you do.

I believe in god, pretty simple.

Yes because it is said every people has been given a prophet, but its a bit special on Christians and Jews - "Surely those who believe, and those who are Jews, and the Christians, and the Sabians -- whoever believes in God and the Last Day and does good, they shall have their reward from their Lord. And there will be no fear for them, nor shall they grieve" (2:62, 5:69, and many other verses). They are called the people of the books.

Well we are required to fast a month (not all day but from sunrise to sunset) to know how the poor suffer, we are only allowed to kill animals in a certain way, you cannot sharpen the blade in front of him, make it as quick as possible and you have to bless it. Sunni muslims have no saints, we directly communicate with god when praying, we pray five times a day....

Thank you, and would that be Yes, except the Vatican or No including the Vatican?

That's a pretty lazy claim. Can you please edit a lot more information about your upbringing etc, how you practice your faith, how you came about it etc into your OP?

I worry you will get few serious questions if you do not.

Ya we are a mini Turkey. I don't pray (only on holidays), my parents dont drink but its not for Islamic reasons, my dad just doesn't like it, but we have liquor cabinet, tried learning Arabic, but was to bored to learn it. I only know the basic surahs, yes I hear the azan everyday. We don't do the drum thing. As I said we are a little Turkey. You rarely see a Hijab in Bosnia, a lot of old woman were the Russian like scarfs over their heads. Ya we have had a huge number of immigrants from Saudi Arabia, the wahabis (i think its spelled like this), but they are usually social outcasts. We go to tombs of good muslims and pray for them but don't really pray for something to happen to us.
