Ask me about skipping two grades and going to a charter school

I suppose there are a lot of these sort of threads popping up so I was hoping I could help some people by sharing my experiences. I skipped fifth and sixth grade, and I'm currently a junior at the Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy (www.cdacharter.org). Any questions about either?

What are you doing up this late on a school night? :mischief:

Why skip those grades? Wouldn't it have been easier to skip the earlier ones where all they teach you is how to make letters?

I like your Avatar. It reminds me of me, who is accepted to Harvard in 10th grade.

Oooh lets have a contest to see who can casually insert more silly juvenile "I'm smart" stuff into their posting!! Actually I have a Prometheus Society meeting and some Nobel Laureates to tutor so I'll have to join in later.

I lose the contest because I'm not being casual! :p

I'm taking my fifth university course right now. I got in when I was 16.

The other threads were about "Ask a [insert proffesion]" not "Ask a [insert life experience]".

I can start a thread "Ask someone with more than 100 prizes", but it would be spam. As (IMHHHO) this one is too.

I was up that late on Sunday because it was only 11! Still got 7 and half hours of sleep :). As for skipping those grades, I skipped those two because it was then that I realized it was all really easy. I had already learned all the stuff they taught us in 5th and 6th, so I left fourth grade after a few months, was homeschooled for that year, then went into seventh.

Do you ever get picked on for being alot younger in apperance?

Actually, tallness sort of runs in our family so up until this year (11th grade) I had been one of the, if not the tallest kid in my grade. The age difference was sort of a problem in middle school for me (what with everyone else going through puberty). A funny, if a bit inappropriate anecdote about that is unforgetable. One of the girls who was in my seventh grade class (she left after that year, as quite a few people do at our school each year) asked me if I wanted the gum in her mouth. Needless to say I didn't get what she actually said .

Sweet! Up high! *high fives Red Stranger* Guess I'll be in that same sort of situation next year...

I'm sorry if this seems like a nerd contest or something, not my intention at all! I just know that I've searched high and low for other people who have gone through the same things so I figured I'd take the initiative and tell people about my experiences.

Oh and good luck with the tutoring.

Well like I've said before I haven't met anyone who went through skipping a grade, let alone two. If it's spam, then by all means the mods may delete it.

By this, do you mean that you will actually be attending Harvard next year, or just that you talked to the dean and he claims that if you keep up the good work, you might get in? I read your thread on the matter (closed, IIRC) and it doesn't sound like you were actually accepted, but perhaps you can clarify.

Its not spam. At least yoursomewhat humble. ;)

I'll tell you, the ladies usually go for guys who are 2-3 years older than them. It makes for a lonely period between 12-15 years old, when they are 14-17 and dating 16-19 year old boys.

Cody the genius mentioned something similar I believe. Something like he was younger than others and/or he was perceived as a genius by them.

And I think Fifty replied in that thread with a comment similar in spirit as here.

Your screenname (along with Cody's) suggests a sense of superiority. So I can understand where Fifty is coming from.

Like I need tutoring.

Do you ever get the feeling that by skipping to grades you missed out on some of your childhood so you could rush into soul-crushing bureucracy?

Wow. I can't believe you actually just said that.

I used to go by Final Prophet, back in '96-'97 :D

So consider that I've toned it down ;)

Actually, Raja (translated King) is my middle name. Joshi being my last name. So true, it does give a sense of superiority. But it's deserved :p

Yeah, I did for quite a few years. Of course, if you are in the same situation and wondering if you should skip, you should. After you settle in the new grade socially, you'll be much happier academically. At least I was! So yeah, I got the feeling but it was worth it.

And kingjoshi I chose this name like back when I was 10. It was because I was actually named for Alexander the Great (hence my middle name of Philip!). I guess arrogance may actually have had something to do with it .
