ASNES-Operation motherhen

“All Hail the Ming Emperor! Son of Heaven!”

Thus began the Royal Council of Emperor Shen Zong Zhu Yiju…

“My Emperor, our invasion of the unholy Dalai Lama is continuing perfectly. The same is with our northern expansion into the former Mongolian Lands. Our expansion of the navy is however growing slowly. I propose that we adapt European Designs of naval vessels instead of our own designs, it would save valuable time.” says the Prime Minister.

”Absurd, we will NOT use European Designs unless we have to! We have already opened our southern ports to the Portuguese in exchange for Macao! If we are to survive, we must follow European ways! As in trade and colonies! The way to victory is in the seas, not in the lands. We must colonize Indies before all the lands r taken by the Europeans!” says the High Military Commander.

”You both speak nonsense! The true path is that of isolation and sealing ourselves off from the Europeans! They have nothing to offer to the Superior Chinese!” says the Treasurer.

”Silence, all of you! You all have good points, but Treasurer, is it not true that the European guns are equal and some even superior to Chinese guns, this cannot be allowed to happen! Command the missionaries in China to teach the Chinese people European Science, and in exchange allow them in to China to try to convert some Chinese to Christianity. We will not become a backwater nation!”

Orders later here….

To European Nations
From China
We will allow one nation’s missionaries in China, and traders in our southern ports if they give us the technology and weapons of the “Colonial” Age.

As for our stand against Europe, we are simply trying to preserve our culture from the corrupting influence of Westerners. While we do recognize that many among them are made angry by our policies, we must stand by our decision of isolation in order to preserve ourselves. An embassy might be permitted, but of course no ships of European ownership will be allowed in our waters, except small vessels carrying diplomatic messages (such as the one carrying this one).

Anyway, here is our version of our history. Unlike the rest of the world, the islands of Japan arose from the sea beneath a great cloud of smoke and fire. Its people--us--were created by the sun goddess Ameratsu, and our first Emperor was her son, whose blood still flows through the veins of our Emperor today. Many long years ago, the islands were united under the Yamato, who brought enlightenment to the islands. During the time between the Yamato leaders and Sengoku, the Mongols brought together a fleet of many ships to destroy us as they had done to China, but we were delivered by the great kamikaze, the Divine Wind, which smashed their fleets upon the rocks. Gradually the empire disintegrated, and soon all of the local princes became independent, acknowledging the Emperor as ruler by word only and not deed. These lords constantly fought for power, wealth, and territory, and thus plunged Japan into the age of Sengoku, or the Warring States. This was a dark and bloody time for Japan, but even so it gave rise to many heroes, among them Takeda Shingen, Usegi Kenshin, Oda Nobunaga, and, finally, our current Shogun's late father, Tokugawa Ieyasu. All of these were great warriors and leaders of the era. Finally, however, Tokugawa managed to reunite the land and commence its rebuilding after being weakened by the age of Sengoku, and his work still continues under our current Shogun, Tokugawa Iomoto.

If it didn't attack anything, it wouldn't be much of a navy, now, would it? ;) We won't attack your ships as long as you keep them out of sight of our shores. Like you said, to prevent a misunderstanding.

OOC: They tried, but it didn't work out too well; a typhoon destroyed most of their ships, and those that managed to land pretty much got slaughtered. I'll edit that in.
