ATEN - Game Thread

India believes that it is closer to Pakistan and the Mughals, and so it will be able to better protect them. Not to say that we share the same culture.

From India
To Pakistan and the Mughal Remants, and secondary to any South Asian nation interested:

Since we all share a common culture, India would like to propose the creation of a South Asian Alliance. The alliance will be a defensive one, but it will also include open borders and economic co-operation. The decisions of the alliance will be made by the South Asian Assemply, in which all nations send 1 representive and have 1 vote. What do you think about it?

While Pakistan would have welcomed an alliance under different circumstances, Orostratia's reservations on the matter must lead it to politely decline. Pakistan shall sign free trade with India, however.

Bhutan, Burma, Sri Lanka, the Mughal Empire, and Tibet welcome relaxed trade restrictions while declining a formal alliance at present.

From: India
To: Pakistan, Bhutan, Burma, Sri Lanka, the Mughal Empire and Tibet:

We accept your offers. India shall sign a free trade agreement with Pakistan and will agree to relaxed trade restrictions with Bhutan, Burma, Sri Lanka, the Mughal Empire and Tibet.

Orostratia would be interested in a lowering of trade barriers to 1.5 with the Indian Republic.

Orostratia would like full free trade (2.0) with Sumeria.

Tani, I forgot to post this anywhere, but trade between IOTO members should be 1.5 unless otherwise stated.

Apologies for double post, but

United Arab Republic has been approved to join IOTO.

Orders fully locked.

Diplomacy is still valid.

Korean Coalition
Korea: 9 Armor, 9 Artillery, 9 Infantry, 3 Bombers, 9 Fighters
Yi China: 2 Tanks, 2 Artillery
Japan: 3 Tanks, 2 Artillery

Jiang Dynasty
Jiang: 1 Tank, 1 Artillery, 1 Infantry, 1 Fighter + 3 conscript Infantry + 2 Conscript Fighters

Tensions in East Asia have finally boiled over; the Koreans have, with the support of troops from Japan and the Yi, invade Jiang China. The Korean-led forces vastly outnumber the Jiang’s pitifully-small army, and in the ensuing exchange of artillery, the Koreans lose a single Infantry unit, while the Jiang lose 1 Armor; one of their Artillery and 2 Conscript forces are routed.

The Jiang are swarmed shortly afterward, and while the soldiers put up a valiant fight, they are utterly defeated. Only territories to the West of the capital remain free, with the bulk of the Jiang’s population and resources passing under occupation.

As a result of the Koreans’ surprise invasion, countries throughout Asia have increased their military spending, while countries around the world now fear the Korean Empire just a bit more.

Total losses:

Korea (-2 Infantry, -5000 troops)
Jiang (-1 Armor, 1 Infantry -7000 troops)
-50,000 Civilians

The United Arab Republic announces the appointment of a new Minister of Information, who wishes to make the following statement regarding the conflict in Asia:

ATEN is still strong! Taniciusfox has not retreated into the same shoddy combat system of olde! His detractors are committing suicide at the gates!

Let's keep GM criticisms out of the game thread guys.

How on Earth is it "shoddy" that a group that is far better trained and far more numerous emerges victorious?

I understand your dissatisfaction that there are no war plans (not that an NPC would be able to make any, given that it doesn't have an actual player), but as I said, I don't trust my own judgment on the matter. That's all I have to say on the subject.

Just thought I'd post a heads-up in case anyone thought it'd be different this time 'round.

Just thought I'd post a heads-up in case anyone thought it'd be different this time 'round.

And what would a difference entail? :p What sort of alternative would you suggest?

India will be more than happy to accept this offer.

India, seeing the naked agression of Korea, Yi China and Japan, has decided to embargo those nations.

Tani, would it be possible to display the supply/demand for each nation for each resource? If it is too maddening to enter the numbers I understand, I'd really appreciate it. :)

Here's a little appetizer RP for the main course, which will hopefully come later tonight. Enjoy.

Royal Amazonian Corporation:

The Royal Amazonian Corporation, the parent organization of the Royal Amazonian Bank, Royal Amazonian Industries and various other less notable organizations, was created by Queen Victoria III to facilitate trade between Europe and the Amazonians. At first business boomed, as the Amazonians were by far the friendliest and richest of the natives. Although trade was threatened by Papal interference, traders mostly ignored the Pope’s anti-Amazonian rhetoric, as they knew that they could make a killing off trading Amazonian goods. After the reformation this became even less of a problem, due to the Pope’s loss of influence in Protestant countries.

At first the Royal Amazonian Corporation was completely owned by the Willow Dynasty, whose personal funds and state’s funds were often intermixed. However, due to increased competition with a rising middle class and other dynasties, the business started to become less profitable. The Willow Dynasty started selling off shares to local and foreign businesses, but the days of the Amazonian trade monopoly was over, the Aztecs, Cherfue and European Colonies were becoming more powerful in the market and had made it harder and harder for the Amazonians to make as much money from trade than back in the day.

Royal Amazonian Industries was founded to tap into the economic benefits that the Industrial Revolution could provide. It became much more profitable than any other part of the Corporation. The Willow Dynasty, who held a large but not majority share of the Corporation, started slowly buying their way back to the top. Recently, with the death of a major shareholder, they are poised to take over the business, pushing the one of the largest industrial corporations straight into the Amazonian government’s hands...

John’s screams gained the attention of a maid, who walked into the room in a calm and orderly manner only the servant of a Queen could possess.

“Is everything alright your Majesty?” asked the maid. John was surprised by the appearance of this maid and, as a side effect being utterly perplexed by this whole situation as well as completely hung over, could only respond to the maid’s question by staring at her directly in the eyes.

“Your Majesty?” the maid asked again, with a look of grave concern passing over her face. Not wanting to appear any more crazy than he already was, he tried to answer her question.

“Yes, yes” he started “I’m completely fine…” John started to motion his hand in the air as if he was trying to remember her name. “Rose.” said a voice in his head, John would have been concerned about a voice starting to tell him the names of people he would have no way of knowing, he had a lot more things to be worried about at that moment so he decided to just follow the voice’s advice and worry about it later.

“Rose.” Continued John. “I’d just like…I’d just like a few minutes privacy please.”

“Yes your majesty.” said Rose, who curtsied and then left, shutting the door behind her. John slumped up against the bed and cradled his head in his hands and groaned. Well, it wasn’t really his head, or his hands for that matter, but pronouns were very confusing for poor John. After spending a moment collecting himself, he decided to find out what the hell was going on.

“First order of business,” thought John out loud (which was something that he did when he was stressed, which understandably he was) “Why do I have a voice in my head telling me something I couldn’t possibly know?”

“I’m not entirely sure yet.” responded the voice. “I think it’s your mind’s way of coping with all this craziness, it’s confusing being two different people, isn’t it?

“That’s a bit cliché, isn’t it?” asked John.

“Eh, probably. It might just be because you’re really, really hung-over, I’m not a psychologist. But it doesn’t explain the new memories.”

“Memories?” asked John “What…” Memories flooded into John’s head, they weren’t his memories, they were the memories of whoever’s body this was. Apparently she, “Joan”, was the Queen of a really important country in some other strange world, but she seemed to be more of a figurehead than anything. Along with this stream of memories came another splitting headache. John groaned again.

“Well it seems like having someone else’s memories shoved into your head causes headaches.” said the voice “Or that could just be the hangover.”
“You’re really bloody annoying, you know.” said John.

“I try my hardest.” As the voice trailed off, there was a knocking on the bedroom door. John slowly got up and opened it, to be greeted by Rose and a large cohort of maids.

“I am very sorry your majesty,” said Rose “But the High Chancellor has called for an emergency meeting for twelve and if you are going to be able to attend we need to get you ready now.” The maids marched in and started to undress and dress John in an extravagant dress, which was a very surreal yet strangely familiar experience. The rest of the morning was similarly surreal, with a very exotic and decadent breakfast unlike anything John had ever tasted. This was followed by a car ride on a car that reminded John of the cars in Wind in the Willows, through a city that looked like 1950s Britain, except entirely populated by women.

“They don’t call it Amazonia for nothing,” muttered John underneath his breath. John made his way through the basement of the Capitol, surrounded by bodyguards and soldiers. He was guided through a series winding corridors until they reached a large room. It was filled with people rushing about like nobody’s business. In the centre of the room was a large table with a picture of Northern South America on it, it looked just like one of those war maps from World War Two movies.

“Your majesty,” said Mary-Anne, a short, stout and fearsome woman who John recognized as the High Chancellor, “I need you to sign these papers, then you can get on with your day.” John was handed a large pile of papers, which he started to read.

“Wait a second, isn’t Joan the Queen here?” thought John. “Shouldn’t she, well, I be the one who writes the pieces of paper that get signed?”

“It seems like Joan didn’t really like running the country.” said the voice in John’s head “Looks like she just let Mary-Anne run it, while she partied herself half to death.” John shrugged and started reading these pieces of paper. The first one he started reading seemed to be a press released describing how it would be impossible for them to rescue some heiress from North Musican paramilitary, as it would provoke tension within the region. And from Joan’s memories, it seemed like this was completely bogus.

“Excuse me Mary,” said John “But why does this press release say that we can’t rescue this poor girl from a horrible death when we both know that it is completely untrue?” I mean its not like relations could get any worse with the Aztecs. They probably haven’t even reached the border yet, so it would be a simple matter of ringing up the Musican government and asking them to look for her. So why aren’t we doing that?” Mary-Anne sighed.

“This “poor girl”,” said Mary-Anne “Is the heiress to Isabella duPine, your greatest enemy within the nobility. Even as we speak she is plotting to have you get thrown out of power, if her heir dies then she lose legitimacy, putting her plotting to an end. Your majesty, I do not have the time to explain every one of my actions to you, would you please just sign the papers so we can both get back to what we do best?”

“It might be a good idea just to let her do that,” said the voice in John’s head, “I mean, would you have any idea what you would be doing? I mean your experience amounts to an unused International Relations degree and some crappy dead-end job in the public service. Mary-Anne on the other hand has had years of experience of running the country while her Queen wasted her life on parties and alcohol! Do you really think that you could do a better job than her?”

“No.” shouted John, grabbing the attention of everyone in the room. “Through some sort of cosmic joke, I’ve been given the responsibility of safeguarding the lives of over 20 million people. And I’ll be damned if I even let one of them get tortured to death by North Korean, sorry, Musican arseholes just because of some stupid political shenanigans.”

“So, things are going to change. Starting today, I’m going to make some actual decisions. Everything will be run past me and I will have the final word on everything. Is that understood?” Mary-Anne looked shocked, which quickly transitioned into a glare.

“Yes your Majesty.” said Mary-Anne.

“Right, so first thing on the agenda,” said John “We’re formulating a plan to save this little girl. Somebody get me a typewriter!”

“She’s going to fight you every step of the way,” said the voice as Mary-Anne walked off to get a typewriter. “You know that, right?”

“I know,” said John, as he leaned back in the chair. He was going to use this power that he had been given. He was going to make this country, and this strange new world, a better place.
