Atheists to organise book-burning of Hindu scriptures and Indian epics

Because one of the founding principles of the DK (the party which is advocating this book-burning) is atheism, out of which this impulse is born.

But that doesn't mean it's the driving force in everything they do. They can have other beliefs and agendas as well. If they haven't brought atheism into this issue it may be because this isn't about atheism.

Though I will concede that it would have factored into their decision to burn Hindu scriptures as a from of protest.

I've come to the realisation that they aren't really atheists, they're anti-theists.

Burning any books is incredibly stupid.

However, saying of this "atheists to organize book-burning" is somewhat comparable to saying "muslims to organize attack on wtc". How about we specify which particular idiots are doing this, rather than using a word that catches millions of other people who disagree?

a very important distinction to make.... :)

*Sigh*
Because this is done to Hindu and Indian books, the mainstream media does not even cover this. I wonder what the reaction would have been if it the Bible of the Quran.
I can truly feel your pain. I myself would be upset if a bunch of atheist decided to burn Christianity's holy scriptures.

Muslims: They would be up in arms against the act and vow a jihad against the atheist

Christians: They would be deeply upset and would begin to fear that there would be a persecution against the Christians.

What if it was a bunch of Jews? Or a bunch of Hindus? It's idiotic behavior, but it's totally incidental that they're atheists. (The reason I'm upset by this bit is that atheists are endlessly demonized, while the vast majority hold nothing against religious people, and condemn this sort of nonsense.)

Take comfort. From what I can tell, Christians in India don't get particularly upset when Bibles get burned. They're too busy worrying about the churches being burned, and whether or not they are going to burned next. Damned atheists.

You haven't posted a single reliable, non-Christian source. Nor do these sources link to their own sources. Knowing the RSS, I call BS on this.

It just takes a few rotten apples to ruin the bunch. Which is why after round after round of encountering CurtSibling, I tent to be more reserved and cautious when encountering any atheist that I do not know that well.

Or perhaps the mainstream media just doesn't pay attention. Someone in this thread mentioned that they were fickle that way. ;)

Oh ho! That's a very excellent distinction! :D

And there's nothing like a good ol' fashioned book burning to make you feel all progressive and enlightened inside!

Well, if they feel the need to waste money on buying religious books just to burn them, then thats their problem.

Rather then getting mad, just laugh at thier stupidity.

As an atheist, I'll represent myself: burning of those books is a dumb idea.

+1.

(And agreed that the anti-theist distinction is a good one. You could probably just call them idiots in general as well, IMHO.)

There are 4 kinds of religious people:

Fanatics
Theists
Atheists
Anti-Theists

People just tend to lump Atheists and Anti-Theists together.

You don't even need to be atheist to be anti-theist. I could just point out France as an example of a Roman Catholic country that has been anti-clerical since the Revolution.

Actually, I do believe there are a fair bit more then that.
