Availability for Mac on Day 1

My understanding had been that Civ VII will be available for Mac on day 1. However I see nothing on Firax's site that corroborates this. Am I misinformed?

On the FAC it says:

Sid Meier's Civilization VII will be available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam (which also supports Mac and Linux) and the Epic Games Store.

Seems to imply it will be available to all those at launch, but also don't say it outright. But they also been saying it would be available on all platforms at day 1, and at the bottom of the steam store page for it, it has tabs for mac and linux too on system requirements, albeit they all, including Windows, are TBD for now.

While I have some doubts, I think if it wasn't available on day 1, it would have to be stated clearly. Otherwise, the early access that you get with the founder's edition would be a scam.

Does “ via Steam (which also supports Mac and Linux)” mean that it will be playable over steam’’s servers for Mac and Linux users on day one? (Edit: I don’t really know anything about this stuff.)

Basically I’m wondering if I should splurge on a new MacBook or a gaming laptop this winter.

If they do the same as they did with Civ VI, then the MacOS port will be done by a third party (probably Aspyr again). The MacOS port of Civ VI was issued three days after the launch for Windows; the Linux port was delayed by a few months, as I recall (and done by Aspyr as well). However, there was a question at the time about whether or not it was worth doing Linux; I'd assume they have that answered already.

In one of the sources (IDK which) it was mentioned that the ports were done in-house.
Day 1 might be very ambitious, but not impossible. Depends on how well the processes are running.

When Civ 6 Mac came out multiplay was not cross-platform. There was just this small cadre of about 20 people playing games.

They are apparently developing the Mac version in-house this time (versus sending Aspyr code to port and then trying to test it that way), so it should be easier in that regard.

I'm curious when the Mac specs are coming tho.

Apple did feature the game in their new M4 iMac introduction
The M4 is the base Apple silicon chip so that means it should run on a wide variety of systems is my hope
