I'm tired of Montezuma in every game, so that is some options to be Aztec Alternative Leader:
1-Tenoch
80px-Tenoch.jpg

He is the leader of Aztecs when they are in the great migration from Aztlan to Mexico.

2- Acamapichtli

He is the first leader of Tenochtitlán

3- Itzcoatl

He is the dude who transform the Aztec kingdom in an Empire.

4-Atotoztli

Daughter of Montezuma, she is a good option to be a female leader.

5- Cuauhtémoc

The last Aztec emperor, he has a cool mustache.

For more options of leaders you can see here

I mean, you DO realize that the Aztecs already have had two separate leaders in Civ, since we've had both the first (Ilhuicamina, in the more recent games) and the second (Xoyocotzin, in the earlier games) Montezumas. Right?

I know that, Civ 5 and 6 was Montezuma I and Civ 1,2,3 and 4 it was the Montezuma II. But still, why just Montezumas in the game?
The Aztec empire had other names too.
I would vote to Itzcoatl, because him start the empire building. But I don't mind if come other names as Axayactl, Tizoc or Ahuitzotl. I just want to see something different in Civ 7.

You far often treat these pictures like they're contemporary photographs. I'm just saying...
Okay, I was looking other images of Cuauhtémoc and maybe he hasn't a mustache.

But, if Montezuma had a beard in Civ 6, I believe if Cuauhtémoc appear in Civ 7, he can have a cool mustache.

Ah, the Spanish foot-warmer. One of Torquimada's many innovations, I believe. :scan:

For what it's worth from me, the Aztecs hardly get much notice beyond the usual pop culture anyway like a guy named Montezuma, human sacrifices, etc. so another thread like this on the Aztecs is welcome! For me, Itzcoatl is the clear choice. The others aren't bad but Itzcoatl has plenty going for him like being there at the pivotal moment of turning his tributary kingdom into a powerful empire and not to mention a reminder to hopefully have chinampas as an Aztec unique at some point.

Lets think outside the box.

The name "Aztec" is popular to refer to the Triple Alliance of Tenochtitlan, Texcoco and Tlacopan, being the Mexicas of Tenochtitlan the de facto leaders. But in origin the name Aztecs refers to all the peoples that came from Aztlán which are not just Mexicas, Acolhuas and Tepanecas, but also Xochimilcas, Tlahuicas and even the Tlaxcaltecas die-hard Mexica´s enemies.

Since the empire of the Triple Alliance did not named themselves "Aztecs" (were mainly know as Mexicas being Tenochtitlan the capital) the use of Aztecs as the civ name gives us the chance to have any other leader from the proper Aztecs, included:

- Nezahualcoyotl, the poet king of Texcoco. Since young had a life full of diplomatic drama having to for alliances to build an army and get back his realm. As king was a rigurous law enforcement, art patron, builder of aqueducts, pallaces and even the older natural reserve and garden in the Americas that still exists in Chapultepec.
He is perfect for culture focused leader who would have great synergy with the Calmecac college as Aztec unique building.

- Xicotencatl, the eldest and main leader of the Tlaxcaltec republic. He was the key figure who convinced the tlaxcaltec senate to ally with the spanish againts the mexicas turning Tlaxcaltecs in the quintessence of "Indios Conquistadores" traveling from New Mexico to Peru and the Filipinas. On game could be a diplomatic leader with huge bonus to reform both technology and religion from his allies.

I like this idea, since Texcoco is also part of the triplice alliance, it means he can be leader of the Aztec empire.

But I don't like this idea, Tlaxcaltec people maybe come also from Aztlán, but they are rivals of the Aztecs. Tlaxcaltec deserve to be his own civ, or at least a city state.
