Aztec - Montezuma I Thread

Maybe it's semantics, but this is free after 90 days so is it really DLC? I guess free DLC. I would guess it does not count towards the digital deluxe DLCs.

It's kind of an early-access perk rather than a DLC. This seems to be the 'in' thing at the moment: I notice the new World of Warcraft expansion is offering early access to the new class to those who pre-ordered (the class is coming with the expansion anyway, so isn't separate DLC either). Although in this case, early access means you get it when the game comes out and not 3 months later.

"Starting today, those who pre-order Civilization VI will exclusively gain early access* to the Aztec civ, led by Montezuma I, when the game launches on October 21, 2016. After 90 days, this content will unlock for all Civilization VI players at no additional charge. "

#$€&@%@!!!!

This is very disappointing if true. Three months is quite a long time, and the Aztecs are one of the classic main civilizations.

I can accept a pre-order bonus civ, but not one of the main ones.:mad:

wait, so this Aztec is not included in the initial 18 civilization release?

Not sure, have asked for clarification on twitter

One of the coolest things about Aztecs is ability to speed up districts with Builders. This means you could boost weak (just conquered) cities with Builders from well-developed ones and from Barbarians. Of course, many districts start shining after they have some buildings in them, but, for example, Encampment with its attack and Harbor with ability to produce ships are very useful even without any buildings. That's pretty cool.

Also, it's interesting which UU bonuses are kept with upgrades. In Civ5 some bonuses were actually promotions and they survived upgrades, so, for example, Aztecs needed to build as many Jaguars as possible and upgrade them later. If ability to capture slaves survives upgrade, it would be really powerful.

I've actually played Tlatchi (the basketball like game) when I worked at a primary school! It's incredibly difficult :P
Did you also get to chop off the head of the loosing team's captain? :mischief:

Anyway, if the wonder is a general wonder and not unique to this civ (which is also my interpretation), don't we need one unique bonus for the civ? We get the UA (capture workers to produce districts), UU (Eagle Warior) and UB (Ball Court), but don't they have an extra Unique compared to Civ5?

Isn't is luxury gives combat bonus?

Giving a bonus for luxury ressources is kind of a geography utilisation no?
+ It doesn't look like feathers to me, it looks like leaves now i've look too closely, so now i cannot unsee leaves ...

Hahaha, they DO seem leaves, damn it!

Yes, a luxury bonus is a geography utilisation, but, again, a pretty bland utilisation, if you ask me. Given the name ("Gifts for the Tlatoani) I was expecting something more like "bullied city-States give you amenities for free" or something. After all, that's what the Aztec emperors demanded from conquered cities.

I think Babylon was the pre-order bonus for Civ V.

I was gonna pre-order anyway so it doesn't mean much to me.

Naah, Babylon was different. Babylon became a paid-for DLC.

Aztecs are similiar to Mongolia just without Day 1 appearance for pre-orders.

I find that a tiny bit ironic that we're complaining that Aztecs arent' geography dependant when we've seen just how badly that can go. (Try playign England on a pangea)

I think they're avoiding almost any Uniques from previous iterations (namely Civ 5).

They're exciting, but the names are bugging me.

I noticed by the end of the video one civ was showing with pink and black borders (see the screenshot below).

Spoiler :

Any idea as to what civ it is? I believe this color scheme is new.

and if memory serves me correctly you had to pay for Babylon afterwards if you didn't preorder

I think with the back boarder is a City State

I was actually a bit happy hearing this as it means there are more than 18 civs ready to go.

Temple of Kukulkan up the back at 1:44?

It's kind of driving me nuts that we now have an announced civ with bonuses specifically from their 'amenities', but we still don't have a description of what amenities are/how they work.
