Aztec - Montezuma I Thread

Oh, I got that, I'm not a fan of geography dependence either, but so far every civ in 6 (except China) has something about that: continents with Teddy and Vicky, coastline with Hojo, rivers with Cleo. Given that the aztecs built a city in the middle of a lake and that they were famous for modifying the land to create farms and aqueducts seem like a strange choice that they have no bonus related to geography.

Also, what's bugging you about the names? Can't you pronounce Tlachtli, Tlatoani or Huitzilopochitl correctly? :p

In VI, it seems that different continents can form even on a Pangaea/single landmass. Which makes sense, geographically. In any case, the continent-specific bonuses at least should still apply on all maps if that's the case.

The way I understand it, it means that we will have 17 civs at launch (for the first three months) unless we pre-order the game.

That was also the way I was interpreting it. Perhaps the game will start with say, 12 civs, and another 6 will gradually unlock over time, unless you pre-order? I'm not convinced they are one of the DLC civs as they never mention 'DLC' anywhere - only 'pre-order', which isn't the same thing. I hope 2k will clarify what exactly is going on.

I think Ed mentioned in an interview once that the Deluxe version would include the first four DLCs for the game

Does anybody remember how many civilization were promised at start for Civ 5 and whether those numbers counted including Babylon and Mongol?

There were 18, 20 if you count Babylon and Mongolia.

They said Civ VI would have 18 "like Civ V", so I highly doubt Aztecs count.

Yeah, the Deluxe version comes with four DLCs but there's no guarantee that all four are Civs. it's likely that 2 are Civs and 2 are Map Sets.

Likely by what justification? I doubt they'd scoop so low as to make one, much less two, of them map sets.

Anyway. If every civ has some sort of geography-based bonus then the game becomes incredibly unbalanced because chances are that over 65% of the world will end up suffering as a result.

There needs to be a counter-balance so that civs, like the Aztecs, flourish in ANY condition.

Precisely! I would have loved the Aztecs to have a geography related bonus and other civs not having it (France, Spain, for example). But, alas, there's no use in complaining now! They're not gonna change the aztecs just because I'm unhappy about that little thing :p

Bonus track: Quetzalcoatl, Tezcatlipoca, Xochipilli!

Well, this changes everything. Let's pray that early warfare isn't as harmful to the player as it was in Civ 5.

I don't think so. Given what we know from bingo thread (22 pictures) and what we just found out, I think the most probable scenario is that there are 18 base civs, and 4 that will be ready from Day 1 for those who pre-order, and from Day 91 for free for those who don't/

But that's the thing - are we sure if it is one of the 4 DLC? They don't specify that you have to order the Deluxe Pack to get the Aztecs - it seems you can just pre-order any version of the game to get it, so surely it can't be counted as one of the DLC? It just seems very unclear to me.

Should i open a thread to vote to know if the costume is made of leaves or feathers? this is bothering me now. Won't be able to sleep until next week's video

I figured as much, so it seems to be quite an unfortunate UU. How often are you going to be killing any units with Warriors? I know they've said they want more combat in the early game, but that early? Seems like a waste.

It could work, if cities are weaker than they are in V (as far as we currently know, cities cannot ranged attack until ancient walls are built, though they still have their own HP/defense).

Still, I'm also a bit dubious about attacking other Civs with warriors. Even in my earliest of early wars I tend to get up to spearmen first :crazyeye: I'd prefer it if we at least got a free builder from clearing an encampment.

Civ5 on release had America, Iroquis, Aztec, Egypt, Songhai, Greece, Rome, Russia, Germany, France, England, Arabia, Persia, Ottomans, India, China, Japan and Siam (18), as well as day 0 DLC civ (Babylon) and approximately one month after release we got a free Mongolia DLC (I still don't know if this free dlc was planned from beginning, or if it was planned to be paid but released free in reaction to great ****storm on those forums in this era regarding questionable quality of civ5 release version :p )

As for Aztecs, they are amazing. Every civ shown so far is amazing, with gameplay impact and interaction worth of 2-3 old civs of C5. But I am unpleasantly baffled by the nature of this preorder bonus. Free civ but locked only for preorder buyers for three months... Feels weird. Not to mention the fact Aztecs were "basic civ" for 20 years since Civv1, always in release basic version.
Although Babylon and Mongolia suffered the same fate in civ5 - after four iterations of being in every release version, they were cut for DLCs.

I am positive myself. Why charge people for the privilege of getting the first 4 dlcs free (obvious pre-paid, not free) in the deluxe edition if it's ALREADY free?

Makes zero sense. It's a pre-order bonus and free to everyone after 90 days.

We don't really know yet how long units will last before becoming obsolete.

The Deluxe edition, is not comign with 4 exlusive DLCs, Even Babylon was made a regular DLC after a while, the way I see it Deluxe comes with four paid-for DLCs that we get a basically a season pass for. So the Deluxe get earlier access to them while everyone waits extra few days.

I mean, tha'ts mostly speculation but I highly doubt that they'd also make four civs exclusive to those with Deluxe edition of the game.
