B04: What if they were wrong?

The more you talk, sana, the more I feel strangely hypnotised by the clever psychoticness of the bunny.

Look into the bunny's eyes....

And I insist that we won't be upgrading units, we will be building Panzers. Unless you want to go art/inf when we have panzers :crazyeye:

Who needs panzers. Or art/inf. I say we use bombers and cavalry! :groucho:

@the stats: nice work, I'll claim those as justification for my choice. The actual numbers seem a bit inflated though, as it's unlikely we'd be getting all those techs at the full, monopoly rate using self research. And if we did, we'd recoup some of our outlay through trades. OTOH, we'll probably get more TGL income by trading as well, so as a raging warmonger for this game, I still say: get those books.

SGL: TGL sounds good.
War with Spain: The odds are highly against us at Madrid. It's walled and on a hill, adding a 100% defense bonus to the defenders, plus it's fortified, adding 25% more. Either send lots of units or go elsewhere (would we ge able to go over it?)
@Beorn:  at the new avatar.

Thanks Viper.
Anyone is up, just call it.
As for the inflated numbers, let's just say that even half of those figures (50/50/20) are still abusive.

Beorn, your numbers are so convincing that I have nothing to say... TGL will be.
I've never made it to figure the price of the techs, even with the editor. Must check for a educating thread on the question...
I may take it tonight, you have the time to jump in until then guys.
PS Do we rename captured cities? This way I can get my name somewhere...

Of course we rename. If I wasn't 10 over par already I'd take 5, but you can have Barcelona for yourself ;)

The numbers are, as Sana said, a bit inflated because they are monopoly tech costs. But even if you divide them by 2 or 3, they make the point.

I've failed to play it last night, and will have to wait for the week end as today and tomorrow I have appointments in the evening. Sorry guys.

Anyone else until then?

I will take it and play sometime before sunrise. I thing the SGL is still around, I will use him on GLib, and continue to beat up on Bella. Will see if I can pinch great wall for us.

The bunny must have been in charge when I read this, I didn;t register the odds, so not knowing it was impossible, I did it fine. (translation: send enough swords, and all will be good, provided you use sufficiently high values of 'enough') :D

Pre-turn: Copernicus unpacks his reading material at the Idiot Academy. There's a rumour that the library is so great because copernicus' reading material consists of an extensive playboy back catalogue, but it is unconfirmed.

IBT: Get nervous at the spanish galleys cruising past our undefended cities

530BC: GLib built, we check out what's there for ourselves. The articles are really good.
Gift polytheism to Abe hoping to speed up us getting monarchy

510BC: Seville goes boom.

490BC: Beef, wheat and a canal all come together at Suez Steak Sandwich, our newest Idiot outpost

470BC: Swords continue to rush plod towards madrid

450BC; In the depths of the library, we discover a large X marking a spot. We don't know what's there, but as we try and puzzle it out, a thought occurs: If we put Xes where we've been (and can tell left from right), we'll be able to go there again. Others call it map making. We also learn how to carry on wars for millenia, all based upon what great aunt Bella said about our Sharon at Abe's wedding. aka feuding.
More swords join the party outside madrid

430BC: That's some party. 6 spanish & 5 german units disappear somewhere, never to be seen again. Madrid is left with a redlined spear and a redlined sword

410: Get-rid of Mad-rid
Make happy with Bella for now, she hands over Vitoria and 30 gold.
I get a laugh out of the (Idiot) next to our cities, as the silly looking 1 tile creek W of the city means the name now appears as:
<---That's not a river (idiot)
Teach Bella about this feuding concept, and we tentatively agree to go back to open warfare a bit later. In return, she tells us about us being in sole charge of the empire (I thought we were already?). We party hard at the thought of this unrivalled power, and Copernicus emerges from his library temporarily to proclaim "You idiots are revolting!" We'll be an anarchy for 8 turns.

390: Yet another curragh drowns, I rename a galley as "I've got floaties" to help with the exploration

370: It works!!

350: For one turn anyway. Galley drowns, "I've got floaties too" and "I've got sinkies" are still alive.

We have a spare combat settler, there wasn't space by the ruins of madrid to put a city in without rubbing borders with Bella, which sounds almost as wrong as it is, and would put us right back to war. Also equipped 7 swordsmen with nice looking maces, the next war should go straight to Barcelona and steal the great wall. Bella's iron is hidden under salamanca, that should be the other target. This write-up got sillier than planned, but at least there haven't been any shrubbery requests (yet). I blame lack of sleep. That and the voices.

Save the shrubberies!

Were we in trouble when you signed peace? I guess that's what you meant by redlined spear and sword. Next war will go much better. MDI will rip her through, and her bonus units are done with, now.
Any purpose to trading her Feudalism? I guess it was part of the peace deal?

I'm just a bit puzzled about the choice of monarchy though, but in the immediate future it will be a better government than republic. Let's just hope next anarchy will be shorter. We might want to change only to commy though, but that's to be seen.

Roster: 10 turns anyone

No trouble at all. But in no position to continue advancing, and regrouping is easier at peace. Especially in a non-despotism govt.

Purpose was to get out of despotism. Couldn't get monarchy as part of the peace deal without giving feudalism, couldn't get a city if i did that. took the city in the peace deal, then traded. It will mean we'll face pikes, as I didn't realise there was iron under salamanca, but our ability to rush MDIs will be better than spain's. This game will be heavy war, so I'd prefer monarchy to republic for now. Republic also isn't available and not known by either Bella or Abe

... or to any 2 civs in general, I take it. All good. MDI's rock, and once Bella is out, we'll need like but a turn for healing before we can take Abe.

I have a feeling he's gonna be a bad neighbor anyways. Or is it us ?! Nah, nonsense :yeah:

We only know Bella and Abe, hence all the galleys trying on their floaties and running away to drown. It's possible I've been wrong about how GLib works for a few years now, but I'm 99% sure we get techs when 2 civs WE KNOW have it, not when any two civs have it. I've had at least one game where I've made contact with a 2nd continent, who are a long way ahead on tech, and GL has boosted me a couple of techs past education.

Then we can expect a very good boost from it, past EDU and GUN

I can take it now, will reread and play.

Whoops, that’s why no one wanted it, 5 turns of anarchy left. OK.
Why are we cleaning jungle with half our land unimproved…? BTW, Igor, the Americans have had so bad start that I’m wandering if it is not a real life political choice. They’ll be impossible to destroy…
(IBT) I have floaties too sinks (too)
(1) 330 BC
Go and pick a beer in the fridge.
(IBT) Bella declares on America :wow:
(2) 310 BC
Why the heck would she do it…?
(3) 290 BC
Sinkies heads in the Ocean.
(IBT) … and sinks, discovering a 2 turn passage…
(4) 270 BC
I see a spanish settler. The peace time is nearly over.
(IBT) He goes away. The MDI scared him
(5) 250 BC
Idiotic monarchy. Bella knows literature now. Set a few horse builds for better reactivity.
(6) 230 BC
America has captured Murcia!
(7) 210 BC
Bella sends back her settler along with another one. I want to keep our reputation clear AFAP so I block one of them with MDI.
(IBT) Bella settles but away from our borders
(8) 190 BC
Beer and CIV. What more can a man want (when the girl is away…)
(9) 170 BC
Un colon à la con means Idiotic Settler in wrong French…
(10) 150 BC
I feel like all the fun went to Bella and Abe in this turnset.
We have 2 chances to meet someone if our Galliots survive 1 turn in the open. All I’ve done is to try to keep our reputation clear, that’s why Jaen is in this Idiotic location.
Roster: Just to have something worth in my post…
(15)-Viper275
(15)-MeteorPunch
(15)-Soul_Warrior
(25)-Khan_Asparuh
(25)-Beorn

You should have played 5 more, I'll only count 5 on your roster - anarchy is :vomit: ;)

Take them right now if you can/want to.

Roster:
(15)-Viper275
(15)-MeteorPunch
(15)-Soul_Warrior
(20)-Khan_Asparuh
(25)-Beorn
(25)-sanabas

Anarchy is a part of the game. If we don't count 5 turns, than Sanabas is on 23 too.
Anyways, if you prefer, I'll take more turns on my next turnset, I can't play now.
