Just an odd game I had in prince. Normally, your allies and enemies stay constant. In this game, every war I had a different set of prime allies, and stabbed my friend in the back twice.
It started on a continents map, that as usual had all 7 on the same continents. The noble American empire, led by Roosevelt, was on a penninsula on the southwest quadrant. India was on the mainland where the peninsula ended. The rest were on the mainland. Early on, the evil and aggresive Ghandi blocked America on the peninsula, forced to a mere 5 cities. Obviously, this could not be tolerated. So the axemen legions of America prepared for war.
To the east, Geingis Khan had his own border problems with India. Their wise leader sought the help of the Americans in their efforts. Despite not quite being ready for war, Roosevelt agreed. Thus did the Mongolian-American alliance destroy the Indian empire, with 2 Indian cities joining Mongolia, and America taking the rest.
A problem appeared, however. Khan, being an aggressive type, was not happy with his split of the loot. At the same time, his co-religionist Germany was asking America to stop trading with Khan. Roosevelt agreed. In fact, he agreed so violently that he sent his remaing axemen across the borders to liberate the Indian cities Khan had illegally captured.
After this, a period of peace came upon them. Rossevelt got chummy with his fellow Hindus, especially Victoria who actually offered a defensive pact. The pact paid off as Mongolia attacked. Victoria hit them from the east as America fought from the west. Germany was bribed into attacking from the south, through Malinese lands (due to an open borders agreement). Each civ took a city before finishing.
Now came a period of decision for Roosevelt. He loved his hindu friends, but Mali and he were the tech leaders by at least a level of techs on them. And Mali was dangling juicy tech deals for him, and even a defensive pact. Roosevelt could not afford to ignore such an offer for his people, and joined with the Malinese, despite it alienating his Hindu buddies. A short time later, a 3rd Mongolian war eliminated Khan once and for all.
Then it was the Aztecs. Due to their position in the world, they had never had much contact with America. But their alliance with Khan left them as the most hated civ. A brief war ensued before they were crushed. Mali offered to help, but Vickie and Germany were unwilling to without large bribes. This saddened Roosevelt- why had his friends not joined in? He drowned his sorrows the only way he knew- by plowing under Berlin with a wave of tanks.
I'd continue the tale with how I annihilated Vickie, but unfortunately I got a domination victory here. But it was a very different game- my alliances shifter from Khan, to Germany, to England with Germany 2nd, to Mali with England 2nd and Germany 3rd, to Mali alone (Vickie went Cautious when I attacked Germany). Definitely not the normal pick a political block and stay with it game.
