Bad Actors?

Sandler is definitely a good choice. I'm amazed one man can make six or seven movies on 1 or 2 jokes.

Richard Gere - another good call.

Other than that, I can think of at least 2 movies from the other actors listed that I actually like. Because of this I'll nominate the actor who I think has had the longest dry spell : Sylvester Stallone

early movies were great! Rocky, Victory, even Death Race 2000. First Blood was his last good movie. Something must have happened to him because after that come the stinkers
Staying Alive
Rhinestone (who told him he could sing ??)
Over the Top (a movie about armwrestling)
Tango & Cash
Oscar
Stop or my Mom will Shoot
Cliffhanger
Demolition Man
The Specialist
Judge Dread
Daylight
Cop Land
Get Carter

I admit I spent money to see a couple of these in the theater. Learned my lesson the hard way. Is anyone here eagerly awaiting his upcoming performance in Spy Kids 3 ? Anyone ?

Actually, Daylight surprised me. Wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I thought Cop Land was very good, though. Would have been better without him.

Agree with all the comments on Richard Gere - and he's got that look in his eye like he's been in too many Zen trances.

Jeff Goldblum. Good gravy. His appearance in any movie will make any scene unwatchable. He plays the SAME character in every movie. His mannerisms are noticeably bad. See Jurassic Park 1&2 and Independence Day if you can't see what I'm referring to. His delivery is p-o-n-d-e-r-o-u-s.

John Leguizamo. There's a terribly annoying quality about him. I just can't stand the way he comes off on-screen. If I see him on a show, I turn the channel. As far as bad actors go for me, he's enemy #1.

I have to step in with a half-defense of George Clooney. His major drawback is that he falls into the "I'm a celebrity, listen and follow what I say" trap. He worked in "Ocean's 11" but lost some points in "The Peacemaker." And that's not to say a Army Officer can't be smug and arrogant, because he pulled off "Three Kings." At least I can tolerate him in movies. Politically, the guy is misguided, but he's just reciting what writers give him when he's acting.

How could we forget?!?!? He played in Dumb And Dumber and How The Grinch Stole Christmas! :vomit:

Of course, we cannot forget Hayden Christensen in Episode 2. To think that one could actually be WORSE than Jake Lloyd!

Carrey hits and misses. It really depends on the movie. Best Carrey Movie: The Cable Guy. Worst: Hmm. . .Ace Ventura. AV had a couple of good scenes, but mostly it was kludge.

Cary Elwes has the talent of making you hate his character, when he wants you to. He was utterly loathful in Twister and The Chase, but that wasn't bad acting. . .that was making him hate you. So forget I just wrote that paragraph.

I don't like George Clooney, around the time of Batman & Robin and The Peacemaker, but I did like him in O Brother. . . and Ocean's Eleven. His 'big small screen' presence comes off as annoying to me, and as he does each movie, I think he gets a little better.

Don't really have anyone I don't like, off the top of my head. Steve Irwin gets on my nerves like you wouldn't believe, but I'd rather watch him than Jeff Corwin. . .

Jim Carrey is actually very talented. As Plastic pointed out he did a very good job in the Truman Show, and also in Man on the Moon.

If you don't like slapstick humor and comedy, then don't watch Ace Ventura or Dumb & Dumber - that doesn't make him a bad actor.

John Travolta did a good job with Vincent Vega - he fit the role quite well. For those of you who think he didn't do a swell job, remember that he was playing a character that through the whole scene with Mia he was strung out on heroin, so he was actually playing very well in character.

Other than that Travolta is a crappy actor.

Richard Gere has talent. I disagree with people who have said otherwise.

Jeff Goldblum did a great job in The Fly. If you haven't seen it, shame on you. He also fit his role quite well in Jurassic Park - if you've ever read the book you'd know what I meant - if you haven't then I don't think you have a basis to speak :p

I agree - Sylvester Stallone sucks.

Adam Sandler sucks - only thing I give him credit for is the fight with Bob Barker.

Nick Cage was good in his recent role for the film Adaptation.

Kevin Costner was good in Dances With Wolves and Robin Hood. After those he just started choosing bad roles.

Keanu Reeves - I don't care how many nerds love the Matrix. The man cannot act. I give him credit for The Devil's Advocate - He did a wonderful job and exceeded my standards for him in that role, however his other roles have proven to be extremely dry and shallow.

Problem is, a lot of people are mentioning big-time actors that have just been over-hpyed, and because they are hyped up so much and you watch the film and don't like it, you think they suck.

Here's my picks:

Vin Diesel
Queen Latifah
Anne Heche
Tommy Lee Jones
Those guys from "Dude Where's My Car?"
-Many others

The Matrix found a way to make Keanu into a good actor. They didn't let him speak much.

I want to add one of the worst actors I've ever seen in big budget movies:
Steven Seagal

Schwarzenegger, van Damme and Stallone may be bad actors as well, but they all have some kind funny aspect, while Seagal is just bad.

It is funny how almost everybody refers to men and not women (yeah, I know it's "actors" and not "actresses", but anyway).
There are many many really bad female actors, Anne Heche was a good candidate for this. Jane Fonda, Drew Berrymore (her last good movie was ET...), Anne Archer, Sandra Bullock, Julian Roberts (I know that she is the most popular in Hollywood, but she is way overestimated) just to name a few.

Obviously I don't count here those singers with zero acting talent like Britney Spears or Whitney Houston. Compared to them even Anne Heche could go for an Oscar.

As for the action movie guys, Seagal is really bad (his best movie was Executive Decision I guess). Stallones's early movies were really good, and even he makes mostly bad ones, I liked Oscar, because it was just like his self parody. Arnold is more complicated, because if he wants to be funny, that is so bad that actually is funny. Bruce Willis also able to play more than Die Hard, it's too bad that he seldom does it.

And finally Travolta was a one-style actor in his early years (so that was just a matter of taste), but as he gets more mature he is getting better. He was great in Pulp Fuction.

I've got to admit, Steven Segal is one of the worst. I used to like him, until Under Siege. . . now when I got back and watch his movies (the kids like the martial arts) I'm can't believe I used to watch him. That, and that whole wife beating thing.

Exit Wounds was good. I liked the fact that he took some hits. . . didn't do that in his earlier movies. Well, maybe not as many. It's been a while since I've seen most of them.

While we're on Martial Arts in the movies. . . I'm still kinda out on Jean Claude Van Damm. Sometimes I like him, sometimes I don't.

Jackie Chan. . . well, let me start by saying I love watching his movies. The guy moves like no one else I've seen in a long while. . .good fights, awesome stunts. I've sometimes wondered if he's an actor who does his own stunts, or a stuntman who does his own acting. But I do enjoy his movies. That, and english isn't his first language. . .that may have something to do with it. And kudoes to him, for even learning a new language. . .he does get better with every movie.

Tom Arnold. . .well. . .sometimes he does good, like True Lies and Exit Wounds. . . sometimes. . .well. . . The Stupids. . . that was just too much for me.

Hmm. . .actresses. . . I don't like Julia Roberts. Something strikes me as wrong with her, I don't know what it is. I liked her in Sleeping with the Enemy and My Best Friends Wedding, but that was more Cameron Diaz than Julia Roberts.

Steven Seagal sucks. The only role of his I liked was in Executive Decision. It was 5 minutes long and he died before boarding the 747, blown away when the docking collar disintegrated.

Nicholas Cage sucks.

George Clooney sucks. Small redemption for Oh Brother....

Kevin Costner blows goats. The Postman :suicide: .

Don Cheadle. He plays the same character in every movie or tv show. He plays Don Cheadle.

Ri-chard Ge-re  just to see his face is enough to make me sleep, he's soooooo boring.
Also, Tom Hanks, what a talented actor

Thestonesfan, do you like any actor?? Seems like you named them all....hehe

Spec.

I find Kevin Spacey to overact.
