Balance patch discussion and goals

The event "Ice age" is extremely punishing.
It's the year 1400BC, I've 5 cities and about to settle a sixth.
The options are: lose 2:c5gold: per city or 2:c5production: per city for 75 turns. I'm making 3:c5gold:, losing 12 gpt is HUGE this early in the game. 900 gold over 75 turns.
IMO it's OP.
If this event was to only pop up post industrial era it would make more sense and also be less punishing, but if that is not possible then 1:c5gold: or 1:c5production: per-city per-turn would be far less punishing.

I thought that too, but the event occurs to every civ at the same time. I like it - forces everyone to shift and compromise their development.

The hurricane feels really punishing, especially if you get caught without a garrison or gold. And that hits just one player (at a time). But that's ok, not every event should be good :)

Yeah, still feels like a kick in the nuts though but not as bad since it affects all civs.... I suppose I can live with it :wallbash:

For sure, In one game I played it seemed Dido was forever under attack from hurricanes.... also London was hit a few times.
I do like the events system though even if some are punishing.... definitely makes the game more interesting.

Hi guys. huge rep by me for this mod rly great stuff. i have just few questions. is the beliefs window disabled for some reason bcoz i cant see any others religion. did u think about extend civpedia more(if possible?) like do for example for terain types all possible improvements(techs ,buildings etc and links to them in civpedia). also didnt u think about add some building for desert yild at least +1 food smthing like noreia?(was in anno game and it seem to me just good idea) ofc not affecting already flood plains.

Beliefs should be visible in one of the tabs in the religion window, if the installation was successful including EUI. AFAIK all the new things are in the civilopedia and most buildings units etc are correct, although I'm not sure if all the concepts of VP are explained.

Regarding deserts, I suppose it's desert for a reason - there usually isn't much you'll be able to do with those tiles, other than hook up the resources (and if you picked the desert pantheon you will get very nice yields from them). You can build farms on desert with fresh water, but in a lot of cases you wouldn't bother.

i cant see any others religion beliefs in faith window. im using version without EUI bcoz i read in another thread that EUI versions causes a problems in MP games.

Is there any point in building Pyramids wonder as Venice? Do you get anything instead of the free settler? (ideally I'd like to get a great merchant)

sorry for being bothering, but i cant also find requirements for enhancing religion. prophet cant do that and only thing that could do that was St. Basil? i am asking just bcoz thats 1200 fait point to next prophet and i dont wanna waste him for requirements which i can pass in few turns.

Last time I played Venice (few months back) the Pyramids gave you an MOV. I'm not sure if that's still the case though.

A prophet is required to enhance your religion, and AFAIK there isn't a wonder that allows you to bypass that. St. Basil allows you to pick a reformation belief rather than waiting to build the special holy city building (which requires 20% of the world to follow your faith).

i just completed hagia sophia, got prophet and i tell u i cant enhance my religion. thats why im asking for help. anyway is here or there any huge manual for this(changelog, manual whatever- what including for example new theme bonuses for greatworks etc?)

edit: ok so i found problem. he had to be in capital. shame on me for this iliteracy :D still i apreciate some link to any wider manual or changelog.

how does the free courthouse on capture tenet in order ideology work? It looks like I've never got it - always had to build it manually.

i definetly suggest possibility of making new settlers based on overall population in empire, same like national wonders, obviously more frequent stacking. First of all, having every piece of map covered at renaisance/industrial era seem to me bit psycho, making pioneer and colonist absolutly worthless. but second and main reason for that should be fact, that nations just settled another territory bcoz they favored it, not just bcoz they could and not being penalted for unhappines for doing so. If anything else, it would be much more tactical where to settle and early gameplay should not be only about ,,quickly get there and quickly get here''. AI would get some reset of prioritizing land which they settle. Im not saying that it not doing so, but settling every tundra/snow even 1 tile island is just stupid. ANd buuh, they are lucky, they have there oil, aluminium etc. Im just not satisfied about unability to claim those strat resources except a way of war. Doesnt seem to me normal being 1st in land and not have literaly any late strat res. which means for warmongers in progress, who focus down side of tech tree to having advantages outcoming as absolutely worthelss. just to be mad seeing how each other have due to their senseless expansion at least few of those res. i simply suggest for settlers requiring have some number of global empire population to be build. Best would be do it optional in advanced setup, bcoz im aware of fact here are many players who like this way, but also i think some can aprreciate that.

and pls, if you are able to do that, add to Venice ability reorganize citizens in puppets, bcoz that ai focus is just, well not so far by retardacy.

I agree with matlajs, the AI is spamming cities in every corner in the world.
I am fine with 1 Tile island cities, there is still the possibility to build lighthouse, harbor and seaport to push the food and production and feed engineers, or increase it even more with imperialismn finisher.
But it is very annoying if your cities get squeezed by enemy cities hardcore, founding only 3 tiles away and these end in only 8-9 tiles productive land. Or have to conquer useless cities in half tundra half ice tiles and cant raise them, cause someone else will come and settle there.

when at least strategic resources wouldnt not be overpriced in eyes f AI, than there still would be possibility of trade. But they almost ever(no matter what stance they have to me) want everything for 1-2 of every strat res.

and bcoz in my games i saw only world of Friendships, there cannot be such deals like ,, You sell me oil, I attack him''

Sometimes i also use a bad city spot to get strat ressource, mainly for coal. There are simply too many options to use coal and the normal ressource placement of coal is simply not enough.
Its more annoying the AI place idiotic cities direct near yours to gain one luxury for the sake of a bad positioned city.

I'm new to Vox Populi, and maybe this has already been answered, but: How can I buy settlers?

You don't. Settlers can't be bought.
