[NFP] Barbarian Clans Game Mode Discussion

I think you are the first person that thinks it makes it harder. They are easier now. they disappear after around 50 turns with no interaction and you can even bribe them not to attack you. I am curious what you are doing that is making you have a different experience than most.
I think Barbarian Clans makes it harder. They're more aggressive and have stronger units. Sure, they disappear after a while, but they become only a small threat anyway, so the effect is negligible. At the beginning when Barbs are above nuisance level, they're harder.

I'm still on my first post-patch game, and the barbs camps are still popping up mid-game. So I at least tentatively think they fixed the issue where they'd stop showing up in the classical.

Yeah, I've noticed this too. I had a new camp spawn around the medieval period. And it's been a real pain - a bunch of Rangers and Samurai, in a camp surrounded by mountains with only a couple little gaps in and out. It actually might be a case where it's strong enough to defend itself if I even wanted to take it out.

Geats became Swedes.
You're thinking of Jutes.
No, I'm talking about Hrothgar, king of the Shield-Danes, for whom Beowulf defeated Grendel.

That's still not accurate.

There are lots of bogus claims in Anglo-Saxon history, but anglophiles praise them all.. :p
Spoiler Anglo-Saxon headwear :

You know where the Sutton Hoo helmet were made, right?

*cough* "Old English Scylding (plural Scyldingas) and Old Norse Skjöldung (plural Skjöldungar), meaning in both languages "People of Scyld/Skjöld" are the members of a legendary royal family of Danes, especially kings."
But you did that Geats -> Danes connection (like other anglophiles).
Geats are not Jutes.

I never mentioned the Geats anywhere. Beowulf is quite explicit that the Scyldings are Danes and the Geats are Swedes...

Ahem, I believe Hrothgar is a place. Specifically, a monastery on the Throat of the World. Everyone knows that.
Bah, an n'wah temple. :p

Not to mention Barbarian Galleys finally popping up. Hopefully someone spots proper barbarian naval raiders mid game.

I have gotten weird tech boosts when dispersing camps. I think it is since the april update. I think one of them was irrigation. Of course I got the regular boosts when dispersing and killing barbs but this was something else. It has happened at least twice.

Has anyone else seen this?

It's from the February Update and is part of the game mode. There are two GlobalParameters: "BARBARIAN_CLANS_TECH_STEAL_INTERVAL_STANDARD" with a value of 20, and "BARBARIAN_CLANS_TECH_STEAL_VARIANCE_STANDARD" with a value of 10. I'm not sure we ever definitively figured out what these meant except that it allows you to occasionally gain a random Tech Boost when dispersing a Barb Camp. This is unrelated to the normal boosts for Bronze Working & Military Tradition.

I just ran into barbarian Eagle warriors at the first barbarian clan I met in the current game. I am both intrigued and scared.
You can buy them, but beware scouts that will bring them against you.

Just stumbled across a barb Line Infantry soling 5 of Kupe's units at turn 80...

Now to find the camp.
