BeBa - Beyond Balance

50% of my exams done as of an hour ago. Don't ask how they went. :p

I will be going through this entire thread, as well as the BE General Discussion forum, and work on the mod tonight and tomorrow based on the feedback thus far. There are way too many individual posts to respond to, unfortunately, and as such I'll inquire about creating a subforum for this project ASAP.

I just enabled this mod for the first time and noticed that artists still seem to be getting +1 health per city (at least that's what it says when I am seeding a world).

Aristocrats are 3 energy 0 health and medicians are appearing in the list so it does appear the mod is actually enabled.

Thanks for the mod. How to play online with this mod? Need to replace the files in the game?

I'm not sure if we can play online, otherwise I would be hosting online games with this mod so fast everyone's heads would spin. Of course with JFD's sponsors and a few others mods that add some QoL fixes. :P

Are you using any other mods?

The game has finished the final drawings. In fact, the game first made, and then cut out a lot of it in order to sell as DLC.

This mod looks promising. Keep up the good work!

What I would really like to see, especially for multiplayer, is disabling free affinities from ruins. Way too random, way too powerful.

I'm not sure if that was their intention, or their publisher wanted the game released on time and it simply wasn't finished.

For example there is scripting to allow Workers to terraform tiles into forests, grassland, plains, marsh, etc. It's also been comented out. About to test a game with it put back in.

Hello there, may I ask about how are the aliens under this mod suppose to behave?
Because after installing this mod in tandem with Alien strain mod I've found the alien to be unbelievably unaggressive.Even after been repeatly attacked and with my unit sitting right next the alien nest, the alien absolutely REFUSE to attack my soldiers 75% of the time, preferring to shuffle left and right like morons.

This also made them constantly leaving their nest vacant and allow my units to walk right in.
Whereas in vanilla they will almost always attack in swarm, often killing my unit If it venture within 2 tiles to the nest.

This have so far made the bug war unenjoyable for me as it means there is basically no risk of my unit actually been killed,I could just sit there heal up indefinitely if the nest isn't simply undefended.

I wonder if this problem could be related to the AI change :(
I apologize if it isn't.

The Aliens seem to be bugged in BeBA. Hopefully this get's fixed in the future. Also I hope to see a fix to the AI where they pretty much give up their cities like candy. Like I went to war with an AI that had a city I wanted right next to me and without even firing one shot, they gave it to me after a few turns for peace. Then my favorite part is that an AI asked me to declare war with them, I did it, and now they consider me a warmonger...you think the devs would have put a little work into the AI.

I know there is a way to fix the first issues with the AI giving out cities for peace cause there is a mod for Civ 5 that address that, but I don't know if there is a solution for the whole warmonger issue.

So, I've noticed that many people have complaints about the aliens, and how they function in BeBa. But, remarkably, it's made up of 50% of people telling me that they are too passive, and are a nonissue, and about 50% of people telling me they are far too aggressive and getting to nests is impossible.

I'd like to remind everyone that the changes BeBa makes to Alien AI can basically be summed up in four words: Defend nests more often. That's it. The wide range of Alien activity from passive to aggressive is a feature of Beyond Earth, and one which I enjoy greatly - one play-through, Aliens are barely a part of the early game, and the next play-through you're fighting them off from turn one!

I noticed this trend in Thal's mod as well: Once people start playing with the mod, they forget what 'problems' are actually aspects of the original game. While obviously I play almost entirely with my own mod, and hopefully this mod gets to the point where you prefer playing with it on, I do also recommend occasionally turning the mod off and getting a feel for the original game for comparison. :)

Never!...j/k

Ill most likely play online once BE gets patched, but I'm still holding out hope "it's very slim hope" that we will find some way to use this mod and other for online play.

As for the aliens, my issue is they never attack me when I'm near the nest. Two hexes, one, camp for days next to it to take a vacation, they never attack me. From what I can remember in the base game the aliens get all mad the minute you move within 2 hexes of a nest.

Working on the next update, will post some more here as I go. Getting a bit burned out from this plus exams so I don't expect it up tonight, I'm afraid. But to tide you over: Just made a small, extra component which forces the AI to declare war on anyone who finishes one of the game-winning projects. :)

A more flavour-full version would be for affinity-allies to instantly form a co-operation agreement and alliance with you, and for affinity-enemies to declare war.

But to be honest, both sets of actions are kinda odd. If you've been best friends with someone forever, now you build something and they're your worst enemy? Even though you're doing something to help mankind as a whole? Similarly if you've been vicious enemies with someone forever, but you're the same affinity so now they love you when you build one of the final buildings?

What would be better if a gradual easing / ramping up of tensions, culminating in war. So when you were at 75%, any allies would denounce you and possibly un-ally, and any same-affinity enemies would cancel wars or move to guarded opinion. Then there could be another shift once you're say 25% of the way through building the wonder, with the final DoW/Allies happening at 100% complete.

Obviously this last would require substantially more work, but it would make more sense.

There's really no justification for any option, story wise, beyond factions becoming extremely apprehensive about the idea of another faction being the exclusive transcendent beings / assimilators of humanity / settlers of Planet - it's just a fix to the problem of victories being both remarkably easy and incredibly anticlimactic. What could be more climactic than an all-out World War? ;)

Just to reiterate though, this is not a part of BeBa and requires seperate installation. It's far, far removed from any of the real tenets of Beyond Balance.

I'm New to Steam (says it all :old: and a noob too!) and would like to know how to d/l this mod? I've went to your link for the workshop but for the life of me can not figure out how to get the mod.

And will a version be put here on CFC?

Thanks

Should just have to hit subscribe, launch the game, then click on mods, and the game should begin to download BeBa. Then from there you just enable it and start a game. Now if you run into the issue where you subscribe and the game does not download the mod when in the mod manger, then you might need to delete the mod folder (usually in Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization Beyond Earth) and then relaunch the game. That normally helps if you have that issue.
