Beefjack interview (Morocco hinted?)

God bless you, President Jefferson Davis of the Confederate States of America! You lead the CSA, a rebel state who broke away from the United States because your economy was built on the back of involuntary labor, also known as "slavery." Your utter incompetence and the Confederacy's obsession with the rights of the states led to one of the most pitiful rebellions in American history.

Oh President Davis, your people for some reason want you back! Can you appease the people in Alabama who think that waving the Confederate battle flag is cool? Can you build a civilization that can last the test of time?

Answer: No.

The UA called "Creationism" would be the ability to choose from a completely separate set of religion beliefs that decrease science production but increase population growth (but people grown this way cannot be made into specialists due to being too inbred).

And upon discovery of gunpowder your citizens have a spontaneous chance to turn into a UU called "NRA Nut" that can be used to shoot down UN helicopters and salvage them for techs (this becomes the only way for you to advance technologically from that point).

The library is replaced with a UB called "meth lab" which produces no science but manufactures the unique resource.

UA: LYNYRD SKYNYRD: Great Musicians gain an ability: Rockin' Solo
UB: Trailer Park: +2 Happiness, +2 Food Growth: Replaces University
UI: Moonshine Still

A CSA civ is now beginning to look interesting.

This could also be the "pro" civ hinted at in one of the articles, as it would be very hard to play as. Sorta like the drone faction in SMAC. ;)

So a faith+gold UA is confirmed, then? That's pretty interesting. Morocco's shaping up to be an interesting civ to play.

Heck I think most of the civs so far look interesting to play, much more so than G&K.

As for UUs, some havee suggested the Black Guard. Other possibilities I see might be some sort of nomadic cavalry unit (horseback or camelback), like a Berber or Tuareg warrior of sorts - though we have quite a number of knight replacments already. We could also see a Barbary corsair UU, or something to represent the Almoravid or Almohad dynasties.

The Black Guards were sub-saharan African slave soldiers not unlike Janissaries. The wikipedia article makes them sound unusually loyal but also terrifyingly expendable. They were mostly used for hunting rebels.

Maybe garrisoning a Black Guard in a city reduces unhappiness.

It's *not* confirmed. It was just speculative. I initially suggested the Black Guard a few pages back, but that's for want of other ideas.

Kind of sounded like the unsullied from Game of Thrones.

Anyway, if they hunt down heretics, maybe they could work like inquisitors, or get a bonus agains the units of civ's following a different religion.

Check out the video at the link below. It shows how they combined :c5faith: with :c5gold: quite literally.

So, anyone got ideas about UU's? How did Moroccans actually fight?

If the Moroccan civ also includes Muslim Spain they could have a crossbowman UU. The Muslims of Spain adopted crossbows quite effectively, especially those from Grenada IIRC.
The other obvious choice would be some sort of horseman/knight replacement.

Ah, okay, I misunderstoodd what you meeant there.

Annyhow Morocco has a lot of options for UAs, though I mentioned them earlier in anothe post.

Couldn't they be used to prevent cities from flipping, or something like that?

I didn't read the thread but couldn't it be just about the scenario?

That is certainly a possibility. We can't rule out a lot of possibilities which is why we consider this a "good case" for Morocco rather than confirmation.

I believe the other smoking gun is that the Firaxis poster displays a TI that looks like an image ofa kazbah found online.

i'm not totally convinced yet, he did say he liked the Scramble for Africa scenario, and a Moroccan civ interacting with France would seem plausible for the scenario, and so maybe he was referring to that rather than the standard game.

I think the thing that has people reeling is that he said French warrior or spearman or something to that effect which would be a unit that you would assume would not make it into a colonization scenerio.

While it is possible it's just a scenario situation, there's several reasons why I don't think this is the case:

1. The devs have already referred to the scenario's north african civ as a "North African" civ, i.e., a blob civ. (I'm not 100% sure on this one, so correct me if I'm wrong.) If this were indeed the case, then the interview would have had "North African warrrior" instead of "Moroccan Warrior".
2. I doubt the Moroccans would be using warriors for a Scramble for Africa civ. Morocco was definitely much more technologically advanced than that. I also doubt the French would be using spearmen too. The Europeans would definitely not be using a spearman.
3. The unidentified building on the poster, a hint the devs explicitly said was an important hint, bears a strong resemblance to several North African buildings as several posters have shown.
