For me the French cartoons of the era were above everything else.

This was my favorite:

Ulysse 31, i still recall the genius adaptation of the Odyssey to a far future in space setting. Cyclops being a massive robot that collected spaceships which fell on its planet, was very memorable indeed, as were other parts of the series :)

You can suggest your own favorite cartoons from the 80s (they can be from any country).

That was of roughly the same level as "BatFink" :(

But a very cool 80s british cartoon surely was:

(edit: just learned it was a CBS production :/ ).

You are obviously an agent of the greenback.

From BBC

Thirty years ago children's cartoon Danger Mouse topped the TV ratings, beating even Coronation Street. But what happened to the legendary Manchester animation house Cosgrove Hall Films, which created the rodent secret agent?

Voiced by Only Fools And Horses star David Jason, Danger Mouse was the flagship of Cosgrove Hall Films, based in a quirky studio in the Manchester suburb of Chorlton-cum-Hardy.

Vibrant, surreal and deliciously silly, an astonishing 21 million viewers reportedly tuned in to watch it in 1983, a record for a children's programme which has yet to be beaten.

Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines was a US cartoon from the 60s.

It was quite good.

Maybe the thread should be 80s and before.

I can still remember Ulysses 31 (century) - it was one of my favourites. It was then when I've grasped the concept of time travel for the first time. The episode when Ulysses from 31 st. century was send back in time into his original times and he needed to stretch that bow to prove that he is who he is - cool cartoon :) btw. His spaceship was christened "Odyssey" - very cool name for a space ship ^^

^He-Man (and She-Ra) obviously were among the main early 80s cartoons, but personally i disliked them. I only somewhat liked Hordak, the arch-enemy of She-Ra, probably because his hordes were robotic.

Silverhawks was quite dark-themed as well:

Basically it was Thundercats in Space.

"Moon-Star of Limbo..." :)

Yes. I'd go with Danger Mouse, too.

But the 80's is a very narrow band to choose from, isn't it?

And what's your definition of cartoon? It has to be a completely drawn animation? So, start stop animation wouldn't cut it?
