Sometimes you didn't have a choice. Whenever we were in a situation where we had to eat MREs it was always first come first serve. So if you were late to come get one, you'd be stuck with something gross like the veggie omelet unless you had a buddy that took care of you by grabbing something good for you.

Just eat the cardboard box instead.
With 40% fat content it probably the cheese, by cheese, its probably vegtable shortening with cheese flavour. Whatever preservatives they used for the eggs is probably the main culpret
If its any consolation nothing is worse then the Chinese MREs, they have the longest shelf life, cheapest of ingrediants and all have a chemical preservative smell to them.
