Some were cool, others were crap (i detest Blur :) I regard Oasis as very boring/average ).

Anyway, some suggestions:

Manic Street Preachers - i like a couple of their songs, but never was a fan.

Suede - their first album is often said to have triggered the new age of english alternative bands, the so-called 'britpop'. They collapsed after the guitarist quit. Very posing band, but had some cool songs.

Therapy? -A band i liked a lot, although they had their issues (literally :) ). Troublegum was their hit album, but they are still around.

Of course there is also Radiohead, but they aren't part of 'britpop'. A very good band, again with a multitude of issues. I still think that Creep is their best song, although there is nothing else in the first two albums. Posting a track from the Iron Lung single, titled "The Trickster".

Well. This band formed in 1996. I wouldn't bet this song is from the 90s though. In fact, I think it's 2010. Never mind, eh?

Pulp or sommat

MSP were ok, FYC even good but short lived and while I could live with the V's generic answer there was only one true guitar driven band in the 80s. Sadly the quality of recordings dropped in the 90s but live gigs were still way better than the newcomers could offer. 90s was just crappy in general and nothing much worth mentioning.
Adamson didn't write "our name will never die, this time will be forever" for nothing; a sadly missed guitar virtuoso.

Oasis and Blur are both fantastic. Start your own band and see if it has anywhere near that much success, haters.

This music really passed me by, for some reason. The British stuff I was listening back then was Massive Attack, Portishead, Lamb, Chemical Brothers, Underworld, and so on and so forth. Just because of who I was hanging out with, I guess.

Loveless came out in 91, so My Bloody Valentine by a landslide.

I'll give a solid second place to The Stone Roses as well.

U2 are horrible :(
Couldn't agree more, plus they're not British so they're out of the running for the thread anyway!

It has to be Radiohead for me, although I'm not exactly nuts about Pablo Honey and The Bends, OK Computer is such a seminal album, absolute masterpiece for me. It's still undoubtedly a 'guitar music' record, but was experimental and different to any other guitar band at that time. Class!
