best game advice u ever got?

Build more catapults

And your neighbour's neighbour, and your neighbour's neighbour's neighbour, and so on.

Specialize your cities!

When I started playing, I tried to build everything everywhere, and make all my cities try to do everything. Once I started learning to specialize, I was able to move up two levels almost immediately (Noble to Monarch).

Quick Great Wall = Early Settled Great Spy = being able to back fill a TON of techs!

Keep an eye on the power graph, it tells you if you are about to get trounced.

Play Darius, the immortal rush is quick, deadly and therefore much fun.

Read the thread re the 'Wonder economy' a whole other perspective is good, and it works well.

Never trust a man who ,if left in a room with a tea cosy, doesn't try it on

Don't play this damn game if you want a life..........

"You'll never win with Ramesses' traits on Monarch..."

send out sentries (scouts) explore the map from turn 1 plant cap on hill where possible for extra hammers never go worker first unless youre playing v ai lol

The three most important hints I have received in order of importance are

1) Land is power

2) Build more workers

3) :whipped:

Tea cosy?

Brits are funny. :)

The most revelatory thing I read here: build a worker first (most of the time). I always used to think that growing to 2 pop was more important for some reason, but with unimproved tiles this is rarely the case.

That one got me from Prince to Monarch. Get a worker/bronze working then chop 2 settlers - works every time!

Who was the sad soul, obsolete? Even I can win with Ramesses in monarch easily :p

I don't know, I've gotten so much BAD-ADVICE on the forum I stopped keeping track. But there definitely were some really good GEM critiques in those really old SSE/WE threads.

I remember one critique telling me how I was just a super lucky donkey with the strategy because I started close by to GHANDI, and Ghandi's power rating was higher than mine until I got Cavalry. And at any time, Ghandi could have attacked me!!!

Yes, I guess Ghandi does attack.... I guess it is stupid to get up to friendly with backstabbers like him.. Can't trust him!

I just don't know what you can say to critics like that.... but I guess everyone likes to feel they have to give SOME input no matter what.

I've...had him declare on me in an AP cheese HoF game because he was annoyed. I bribed sully of the ottomans into war with him...and GANDHI made SULLY capitulate .

So, in extremely rare situations, where his peace weight variation pushes him down, you piss him off below cautious, and you don't defend yourself, gandhi can declare.

I still won that game though :p.

I actually had a game where Gandhi went on a conquering spree; he had like 3 vassals, then he decided to declare on me. I guess he didn't realize that my hordes of Cavalry would mow through his longbows like a chainsaw through butter.
