Best in-game music

Morrowind - I remember when I first heard that powerful melody. I think the music made Morrowind the first game that nearly made me cry from the sheer beauty of it at the time.

My best music-memories come from C&C Red Alert, Heroes of Might and Magic III and the GTA- series :)

The command and conquers always have had some interesting stuff in 'em.
I can still remember all of those songs from the original C&C (Does "mechanical man" ring a bell?)

Indeed :)

Here you can listen to all the songs from C&C (at the bottom of the page there is a jukebox):

Edit: Mechanical man (aka Target) is in the CnC list :)

Definately Morrowind/Oblivion Theme songs

Diablo (I, in town music) and II (Tristram) I think are same songs but good...

Starcraft has some really decent music (especially protoss scenarios)

Street fighter (used to record this one song on my little walkman thing that kevin had on home alone.... na na na naaaaaaaaa, na na na naaaaaaaa, nan ananana)

Also Kirby and Tetris

Oh, btw if anyone would like to try out the Divine Divinity music, please visit the composer's page and dl them : http://www.kirillpokrovsky.com/

I recomend my favs:
18- The Four Seasons Singing
00- Warrior
12- Sighs of the Elven Kind

But the whole Divine Divinity pack is worth it.

Silent Hill 2 - just about the entire soundtrack
Half-Life 2 - a few are good when listened to separately, but they're all amazingly well-fitting during the game
Civ 4, and Warlords - a great collection of original and classical music. Fitting, atmospheric and beautiful.
Deus Ex - the main theme and a few other pieces
Hitman series - orchestral music!

M.U.L.E. - Best theme song ever.

^That was on the Atari & Commodore back in 1983 though, so I won't be too surprised if you haven't the foggiest idea what game I'm talking about.

...shoot. Now that song is stuck in my head again. :crazyeye:

Usually, game musics are not something i would listen out of a game, but i often listen to the following ones :
The Adagio from string, by Barber, with the choir that can be heard in the 1st Homeworld
All the musics and songs of the mostly unknown old RTS Blackmoon Chronicles

Good choice, and used to great effect in the third level

It's my favourite version of Adagio for Strings, the choir gives it an extra edge.

A newer good game-soundtrack i found is the one from the adventure game Scratches. Creepy stuff. :) But i doubt i'll ever find it all ...

Age of Wonders!!!
Response to the other thread:
Yup, that's programed music, and more than worthy of a separate genre. :goodjob:

Age of Mythology and Halo both have excellent soundtracks.

GTA series have an excellent music. But Hitman and Deus Ex both have excellent, atmosphere creating musics. Though in Deus Ex you knew when a battle was coming from the change of music.

FlatOut 2-great music soundtrack, legends like Megadeth (Symphony of Destruction) and Motley Crue(dr. FeelGood)
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3-(again) Great soundtrack with (again) legends like Ramones and Motorhead
Jazz Jackrabbit 2-with thousands nd thousands free *.mod and *.j2b files on the net and over fifty in the game, all VERY cool, this is actualy my favourite in-game created music
Tzar-Those songs are actualy Bulgarian Rennesaince songs, made with medival instruments
Civilization 3-what can I say
The Incredible Machine-TIM music is the best music made for DOS game
Fable-Also great post-medival country music
All the SW games-
TrackMania-a cool game with cool music
The Godfather-the films also
Celtic Kings-stupid Bulgarian game with grear music

edit: only tried... sorry

Civilization 4 clearly. Sadly it's about the only thing that I like at Civ4... :( Actually the only thing I like more than Civ3, there are very nice concepts in the game but I don't like it. However the music is great!

Vice City has some very nice music also. I reinstalled it a while back just to listen to the music.
