If "recent" = "the ones I've lived through", my similar list for Canadian PMs would go back to Lester B. Pearson. If I'd been born a couple of months earlier, it would have been Diefenbaker.

Would be fun to do polls for other countries too!

Not exactly an exciting bunch?

So it's John Major through to Gordon one of those pick your poison?

I picked Thatcher, but I was torn on Brown since he sold Britain’s gold and saved the world. That’s quite an achievement.

It says something that the only ones I don't have a serious problem with are Brown, and possibly Major. That merely ranks them as forgettably meh, rather than notably good. Blair was arguably most effective, at least for Britain itself, but it's hard to overlook Iraq.

Hmmmm, can I take the first half of Blair? ie, before Bliar inflicted the Dodgy Dossier on us?
If not, I'll probably have to go with Major. Not so much him but rather his cabinet was heavily influenced by One Nation Tories like Clarke and Heseltine who understood the importance of manufacturing and an national economic policy.
Because otherwise we have a needy dork with a messiah complex, a morose plotting Scot, a posh wanker, a narcissistic joke, a lettuce head, and a differently colored posh wanker.

All of the last five were, at best, bad. Thatcher was effective, but I'll be spinning in my grave before I say she was good.

Assuming that you don't mean his tenure in the 60s, you're a bit older than I am. I arrived a few months after Thatcher took power.

I must say I am a bit surprised by the rehabilitation of Tony Blair here. I remember him (on this forum) before the Iraq invasion and he was responsible for gutting everything and making Britain into a fascist police state.

First memory I have of Blair was seeing him on C-SPAN (a non-commercial American cable network dedicated to political affairs) in the House of Commons talking about Railtrack.
