Which Sopranos season is the best, and why?

Season 1: Tony works his way toward being the family boss; Tony vs. Uncle jr.

Season 2: Tony becomes boss, more focus on him running the family

Season 3: A few new characters introduced, more controversy within both the gangster family as well as in the Sopranos private family. A bit more focus on family issues, unlike seasons 1 and 2 no climax at the end of the season, but a slow build-up to a climax in the 4th season. Also a bigger focus on the FBI trying to get evidence.

Season 4: First half continuing where the third left off with with FBI surveillance and family issues, while also keeping focus on the family business. Second half the gangster aspect of the show takes center stage.

I think each season is great in its own way, and the show is progressing in a great way and keeping the high standards.

Only seen season one. So that's how I voted, since I think it would be hard to top...

It’s difficult. I liked both of the first seasons. But if I must choose it would be season 2. Great stuff…
The finale was pretty sad though, when Bompensiero is iced and dumped in the ocean.
This is btw a pretty good site on the Sopranos: http://www.the-sopranos.com/

Season 4 added to poll at Godfather's request.

I voted season one, especially the first episode. I like how it just tosses alot of information and history about the characters at the viewer.

season 3, I just enjoyed it the best, except for that hideous stripper murder scene.

Yes, that was brutal.

Opinions on season 4 anyone?

I'm probably biased cause I got in during season 3. I liked four okay- especially the Carmella and Furio subplot - but there was a lot of melodrama right up thru the finale. Nothing beats the Pine Barrens episode or the two major whacks in season 3.

Not to mention they are for mature audiences, Gannon! :p

Season 2.

The episode where they go back to the old country and are treated like repulsive ignorant dogs is entertaining.

Best moment from season 4:

Chris' drug intervention. Hilarious.

yes it was

"Now Pauley, this isnt a confrontational, its an intervention" or something like that

"F*** that, he can take his lumps"

And so began the fight.

"You sat on Courgette!"
