Beta test: I'm IN!!!!

I share Sunstone's concerns and hope that you will let me know when you start receiving other information in case my fax went astray. As I said above, my fax was sent by the Post Office who put a '132' in front of the international code. Do you think that simply activated the fax mode?

I imagine if they haven't received your NDA after a certain timeframe (3 days, 1 week, whatever) they will send you another email stating so and asking you to resend it. At the same time, I expect there would be a mass email to those whose NDAs they have received telling you what the next step is. Have some patience, it's probably a logistical nightmare setting this up ;)

AFTER acception, did they answer or confirmed that you sent back the signed NDA ?

I hope they received my email. No answer yet.

Well, with 4-5 e-mails of my NDA they told me they had got it and thanked me for my persistance

Congrats to all of you who did make it.

And they don't even know half of it yet.... :p

NDA = non-disclosure agreement.

They typically make you say something to the effect that you arent their competitor and you wont sell or release the game to anyone else or let anyone else use it or tell anyone else details about what you saw or whatever.

Of course, some people might just sign it and email it back without reading it, thanking all things that are godlike for the opportunity, knowing that if one took the time to read it, there may be a delay of at least 4 or 5 minutes in returning the signed NDA which may be sufficient time for them to change their mind and even if it isnt, who would risk it?.... :D

That's why it's better to be lazy like me and send it in the next day making it look like you thoroughly read it. ;)

Those who were asked to take part -- when you registered did you use the same username as on CivFanatics? After I submitted my application, I had a suddeng pang of thought that I should have kept mine the same and submitted as "whb" [my CFC username] instead of "whb21" [my university username].

The pang of thought was that they might use CFC posting numbers as a first guess as to likely amounts of appropriate feedback?

[fortunate to have lots more time to do work than he would otherwise!!]

Yes! Please do! Don’t let the same thing happen to Conquests as did with PTW.:)

Ahh, I see Chieftess and many other notables will be participating in the beta testing. Thought I should mention that I was also notified and sent in my release form today (not to gloat, just to see who else would be joining me). Looks like Breakaway Games did a pretty good job of choosing people with extensive experience in the community, as well as players with very different backgrounds. Don't feel too bad if you were not accepted; remember that something like 8000+ applications were received for what was likely about 200-500 spots. Have fun playing and we will do our best to give you the "scoop" (as much as possible) on what is coming in the future.

Chieftess, who would have thought a year and a half ago that we would be among those testing out an expansion? :crazyeye: Just goes to show that if you stick around one place long enough, anyone can become knowledgable and respected!

Believe it or not, the beta testers told Firaxis PTW wasn't ready to ship. All the beta testers can do is find errors, reproduce them, document them, and make suggestions for improvements. That's it.

For the most part beta testers can't do any more than that. After that it's up to the developers to fix the errors and implement any suggestions they feel are good ideas.

Did errors still creep past the PTW beta testers? Yes, but literally hundreds were caught. Many were documented yet not fixed on release due to time constraints. Firaxis did not have a large team working on PTW and there only so much that could get done.

In addition, many, many suggestions from the testers were implemented (if I weren't so modest  I'd claim credit for some myself).

Not beta-testers fault :p

The fault of a lack of time, money, super-computers, robots and enslaved programmers ;)
