Beta Test Openings for Civ3 Conquests

If they accept 500 people, that's like 6.25% acceptance rate.

You do need some luck. :)

they will accept between 100-999 people :p

that's 1.25%-12.4875% chance... I'll bet there will be about 300 testers however, which puts the odds at 3.75%

Just out of curiosity, if I am chosen, am I allowed to tell anyone or do I have to keep it a secret?

Does anyone what the criteria for being chosen is?
Did they do a beta test for PTW?

@Fr8monkey: I think you can say that you have been chosen, but not much more :)

@Sir Eric: I don't think they have any other criteria for this test than getting a good distribution of age, system, internet connection, etc. The application form didn't really allow much other information to be entered. Though the 'Which civ is your favourite' box, could be a disguised attempt to figure out how well we provide feedback.

And PTW did have a 'public' betatest too.

i didnt tell them my motherboard and that other thing, but I hope I still qualify.

For my favorite civ I put down none since I love them all (which is true), but I wrote it better than that.

Isak, who is that avatar of?

I signed up about 3 days ago.

My specs (that I know of) are:
1700Mhz Processor
256MB RAM
30 GB HD
DX 9.0a
3D Blaster 4 MX420 PCI
and i know i have a descent sound card.

I hope that's enough, or not too much (maybe loads of others have PC specs like this)
My main advantage could be the fact I'm from the UK.

Do you get an E-mail notification if you are NOT chosen?

I did apply in time but I don't really expect to be picked. I don't think they'll sell more than 1000 copies in my country so they really don't need my input as a Romanian.
Instead I tryed to show my good feedback skills in the comments section. ;)

And I do have very good feedback skills. But I don't really have multiplayer capability :(

@Yndy: I'm sure you won't have to worry about lack of multiplayer capabilities. If they wanted to weed out those who can't/won't play multiplayer, they would probably have made some less obvious question. Again, I think this is just to ensure distribution across all types of consumers. They'll need someone testing the Single Player aspects too, as most Civ3 players prefer single player (for various reasons) :)

A 1000 copies for the entire Romania  That's not much. Are you sure they won't sell more..?? Is Civ3 not big in Romania, or...?

@Hygro: It's Frank Zappa, though die-hard Zappa fans will try to tell you it's the dwarf Larry Phenoga, dressed up as Frank Zappa.. never mind them. :)

So far no one has been chosen to beta test from the Civ Fanatics Community. That leads me to think that we all will find out on Monday. :)

Anyone got acceptance letters yet?

I dont think anyone will get acceptance letters for a while, cause they should still be sorting through the applicant form thingies :(

(i haven't had one)

:)

On Civ3.com they said that they will notify the winners shortly. So far no one has been chosen from here. Who knows what will happen? I think at least a few people should be chosen from here but...

Maybe they can put a message on the official civ3 page if the date is prolonged, so we know were we stand.
If I'm not chosen I'm sad but then I know. The uncertainty is killing me.
June 2 is almost over (here in europe anyway).

We will know, if the civ3.com website is updated tomorrow. It is really strange that no one was chosen so far from here because there are *a lot* here.......

As to notification, some companies require not revealing if you are chosen to be a tester. I don't know if that is the case with Breakaway or not. They do have over 8,000 applications to go through. It may take them several days to pick the testers, and a day or two to send out the emails.

I am watching various sites, including Civ3.com, to see when they are updated with additional information.

Hrm. It ain't June 2nd where I stand anymore. :-\
They really aught to get a move on! [Yes, I'm aware it's alot of hard work, but people have been counting down minutes here! I mean, a promise is a promise, right?]
Anyhow, I hope they just haven't chosen yet and that the case is not one in which they have already chosen but people are not allowed to say they were chosen. This would mean that I was not chosen.... :(

I haven't seen where they promised anyone to be notified by June 2nd.

People need to realize that reviewing 8,000+ applications is going to be slow. Hopefully, they are using some kind of computer program that can automatically load/download all the information sent by all of us. Then, they could either let the computer pick the choices or they could do it themselves.
