Beware The Cell Phone -- a warning to all of you

WHatever you do, don't subscribe with Cingular. I got a go phone from them my last visit to the US, specifically so I would have a phone when I returned a few months later. Ninety-one days after the last time I used it, they cut it off and gave the number to someone else. The only way I found that out was on a long-distance overseas call to their UNhelpFUL desk. Not only were they unhelpful, but they kept saying: "is there anything else I can help you with.
NO! YOU HAVEN"T HELPED ME YET! AND NOW YOU'RE RUNNING UP MY PHONE BILL!
"Is there anything else I can help you with?"
AAAAAAAAAGHHHHH!

Cingular is evil.

Then last week my cell phone here in Dubai stopped working. I call up, they tell me what the problem is (long story, phone in my deceased stepmother's name, even though I've had the number 10 years, yada yada.) I go to the nearest office, explain the long story, and the guy says, "I understand. Normally we have to wait 60 days, but don't worry, here you go." Gave me my number back, no hassles, not strictly according to the rules, but my phone service was back the same day with the same number.

Customer service, what a concept.

haahahahaaahahaha. My wife and did Cingular customer service. Don't blame the rep, our hands were so tightly bound....

This was a very funny read.

lol, one time in egypt i asked for "amir", and i was calling the wrong number, anyway so a guy picks up and i say i want to talk to amir, and he goes what and i realize its the wrong number and decide to hangup wthout telling the guy i called the wrong number and his wife happened to be called amira, so he called back and thought i was having an affair with his wife, good times.

Whoops!

Yeah, customer service tends to be really painful.

One of the better moments was when I received an Instant Message intended for Sandy. I look at my cell phone screen, and it says "Love you. Still thinking of you". I can only imagine the shocked horror that passed through this person when I messaged him back saying I was not Sandy and also that I was in fact a guy and that he had just done something.....well......gay.
Missed oportunity right there.

The fact that Sandy didn't tell him she changed number indicates that this is a dumped ex-boyfriend, or someone with an unanswered crush. So many devilish oportunities wasted for malicious text messaging :)

By the way, what he did was not ..... gay. ;)

Moved into a house and got the landline switched back on. We got a different number but for some reason we still got the voicemail that was from the last number.

There was a message asking if the last resident wanted "to get back in the game" with "a little job, nothing heavy" that related to a wife who may or may not be cheating on her husband (or v a v, cant remember).

I don't use a cell phone. So I'm fine.

Haha I had this happen to me before too. They were looking for some Randy guy and I kept telling them I have his number. One day I got a voice message that was very angry and full of expletives that lasted for a good few minutes. Turns out Randy had taken this guy's bike without permission or that's what I got from the message. That was when I decided to put a voice mail greeting stating my name in the event the guy called back again. I never got Randy's calls again. :D

I get called up by Indians offering me new internet providings.

You guys don't know the half of it, I've had 4 numbers in the last 7 months because people keep calling me. I did however make 2 long term friends via phone mix ups so that was cool.
