[Beyond the Sword] History In The Making

You know...I've had enough, of "better ai"..

I had enough of "better ai" about 2 yrs ago..It's better, if you're 14 and all of your opponents are about 14. That's it's level. It has absolutely no sense, no level of realsim, absolutely nothing. It basically spoils the game. Great achievment guys, uve made an ai, that does nothing but piss grown up people off.

It relys on the fact that it really doesn't matter WHAT defences you have, it doesn't matter WHAT lvl of tech you have...if strange little boy "better ai" (very very sic, better in absolutely no ways) wants to fight you, they will. And 150 units of . .. .. .. ., beat 15 units of decent quality every time.

It's become imo pointless playing, because of totally stupid ai...yeah, lets call it that, its quite accurate.

I find the only way I can win a war against enemies now is to create two of the largest ever armies, consisting of an insane amount of siege weapons, along with a load of every other type of unit available and then slowly move them from my frontlines to the enemy borders, annihilating attackers as I go.

Then I basically move slowly into their territory and hold the city until I can fortify it with new troops, before moving my main army onwards again. If I try to split up my troops they get ambushed by massive stacks of enemies that seem to appear from nowhere.

Well, isnt there a way to "turn off" Better AI? Or is too... integrated into History in the Making?

Better AI is part of the SDK and thus part of the DLL. No way to turn it off without changing the SDK.

I suggested this earlier:
In EraInfos.xml change this:

HTML:
			<bNoBarbUnits>0</bNoBarbUnits>
			<bNoBarbCities>0</bNoBarbCities>
to
HTML:
			<bNoBarbUnits>1</bNoBarbUnits>
			<bNoBarbCities>1</bNoBarbCities>
for ERA_ANCIENT.

You can also set <bNoBarbCities>1</bNoBarbCities> for ERA_CLASSICAL so first barbarian cities start to appear in the Medieval Era.

Another suggestion: iirc in HandicapInfos there a tag were you can set your bonus against barbarians. Just increase the value for the various difficulty settings.

Maybe this will slow 'm down :trouble:

I don't like the idea that in order to build a certain wonder I need to to have a specific religioin in that city. The linkage between religions and special abilities contradicts the original idea of the game that all the religions should be equal and allow you the same religious buildings like temples & monasteries which are actually generic buildings ment to be the same for all religions.

Transforming World Wonders into religion specific buildings or specific religion enabled building is wron IMHO.

I would like to make these wonders available to all again, can anyone advice me on what to change ?

Thanks

Some feedback

Been playing Planetary-Oddessy

As people above had said I have to maintain a huge army to fight barbs, and they absolutely rape the ai. My continent started with 2 AI's on it and they where both destroyed by Barbarians.

Also I've climbed ridiculously fast up the tech tree considering I can't trade with anyone. I have a small army that just wanders around the vast swaths of open land on my cont and just crushes barb cities. I was getting a tech a city till it slowed down and now I only get a tech every 3 or 4 but its still put me as the most advanced civilization (although I don't know by how much yet.)

Is there an option to turn off the take a city get a tech?

There is indeed. It's the Advanced Tech Conquest mod config file in the root HitM folder you're looking for. Open that with notepad or something and there are a few options you can change to either tweak the techs you get by conquest, or to disable it completely.

The config file itself has explanations of what each option does too.

Personally, i've changed it so I only receive a portion of a tech when a city is conquered, and I also have to research the tech in question for at least one turn myself before I can learn it fully.

Anyone know of a few good earth maps that work with this mod, really enjoying it at the moment ^^

That's one way of looking at things.

I see it differently. Making all religions the same is akin to making all governments or all political parties the same. It's arguably true at a lowest common denominator level when you reduce them all to powerful organizations, but not a very accurate repesentation.

I'm convinced that making all religions equal came from Firaxis' marketing, or legal, or PR departments, with an eye toward maximizing overall profits.

To my way of thinking, Firaxis took credit away from various religions by making their wonders generic. That was understandable, but wrong. The Pyramids and Greek wonders probably wouldn't have been built without religious support. The same can be said of numerous wonders built since.

I see the changes Grave has made in his mod as steps toward enhanced historical accuracy and greater strategic depth. When I want more wonders, I may have to embrace more religions. I'd have no problem making each world wonder civic or religion specific, for greater historical realism and more complex gameplay.

All of that being said, I hope you are able to customize this mod to your liking and maximize your enjoyment of it. I never looked at that part of the code, so I can't even speculate. If I had an answer or suggestion I'd offer it to you.

Good Luck!:)

I played the vanilla game and it was fun for a few games but didn't really satisfy me and I quit playing for a while. Tried it again with RoM and a few other mods, and they just didn't do it either. HitM has given me the best Civ experience I've had in every game I played so far though, and keeps me coming back from more like other mods and the original never did. All the small tweaks are just right to keep even the longer games engrossing till I win. Or fail horribly. :goodjob:

Hi everyone!!

i am new here (though not to civ ;) ) and will try this mod in a few minutes. I've read through the civpedia and was quite enthusiastic!!!!
i have only one problem: I know someone posted this earlier, but i have to mention this again. Why is judaism Hitlers fav Religion??? If this is a joke, than it is a very very very bad one (it is kind of an affront really). Or is it by accident?
i am not a nitpicker and don't want to be the new guy who comes here and complains about things, but i think this is quite important. Especially in the field of games one should be a bit sensitive about this issue - after all there a quite a number of very young players out there.
so, i hope that you all understand my point and give me your opinion?

Strange indeed but it's an easy fix/change. Open CIV4LeaderHeadInfos.xml and find Hitler, then change this:

HTML:
			<FavoriteReligion>RELIGION_JUDAISM</FavoriteReligion>

to whatever religion you think should be appropriate for him or none like this:

HTML:
			<FavoriteReligion>NONE</FavoriteReligion>

i don't think i am oversensitive (and i am certainly not an idiot :) ), in fact i know a lot of people who would made a real fuss about that, i was only stating my opinion and wanted to know what you all think.
i would call myself a cynic as well, but i think there are boundaries - and one of these boundaries is the shoa!!!

@ Arian: Thanks for that!!!

sorry if i sounded a tad offensive i just hate people making such a self rightious fuss over something so small, it makes me want to smack them to tell the truth

i only explained what my point was (without making any kind of fuss) and i think you made your point quite clear. But you could have done that without insulting me even when you say "sorry".
i really don't want to argue with you here, we can do that over pm if you like.
i am just asking why this religion was chosen to be Hitlers fav rel.

Your truth, I suppose
Anyway we better stop this discussion as the point has been made and a solution has been offered.
And I fully agree with MasterTonberry!
