[Beyond the Sword] History In The Making

Here's my map for the latest version of HITM mod. Just over 1 mb when extracted. This is an advanced-start map with partially developed nations with pre-determined religion and many cities. Enjoy.

Playable Nations:
Spoiler :
Christian Nations:
America
England
Spain
France (Holds the Holy City)
Germany

Islamic Nations
Turkey
Iran
Arab League (Holds the Holy City)
Indonesia
India (not realistic but necessary to prevent them from being isolated)
Ethiopia (same as above)
Mongol Empire

Taoist Nations (represents all far-Eastern religions)
China (Holds the Holy City)
Japan
Korea

Zoroastarian Nations: (represents all Native-American Religions)
Mexico (Holds the Holy City)
Inca

Nations Without any set religion (available for conversion)
South Africa

Important Note: Make sure to select "No Espionage" option before starting the scenario, otherwise you'll experience random (or non-random?) CTD's. This is an issue with the latest version of the mod, I don't know any other workarounds for this.

I am having a strange problem. Once I get to around 1800 AD, or around turn 410/750; the ability to individually click on units goes away. Within about three turns, all the options on the lower bar disappear. In another two turns, the bottom toll bar disappears completely.

Any help?

The vanishing user interface issue.
One strategy is to save and re-load. I know that this is less than ideal, and if you have to do it frequently, pretty frustrating.

The vanishing user interface is not unique to this modpack. I read somewhere ( WolfRevolution thread, maybe? ) about it usually being related to stuff in the custom assets folder, that custom assets and modcomps weren't totally compatible for whatever reasons .

That's about as much use as I can be on the topic at this time.

Oy... well, thank you for responding. I actually tried that approach though, and no change. Is there a thread or post with particular issues that I might be able to resolve myself, and then see if that helps?

I just reviewed some pages here. I suggest you read all of them before you try to do anything, but these seem relevant-

Well. I asked a while back and got no response. But - here goes again.

I can't get Archer Bombard to work. It's turned on in altdefines but no matter how many I use (like 20!) I never get a single hit. Other ranged bombard works fine.

Anyone ?
I'm sorry you fell through the cracks.

Archer bombard is default off in HitM. It may have worked in early versions, but was unbalanced. I think it's or was default off in the component from which it originates - Dale's Combat Mod. A box for Dale's combat Mod comes up when I start a game, but I'm not sure that it can be changed.

Bug report: the perfectworld map script places only a handfull of salt resources on the map. This happens especially on standard map sizes. Thi sis a problem because without salt you cant build glassware => you cant build a few poweerfull wonders & labs.

2nd: i have a question: how do you change betweend civilizations in mid-game?

It can be changed by typing "0" or "1" in the line
<DefineName>DCM_ARCHER_BOMBARD</DefineName>
in the file
\Mods\HISTORY IN THE MAKING\Assets\XML\GlobalDefinesAlt.xml

like many other options in this and other .xml files

I think archer bombard is not affect on gameplay much.

@supersoulty

Vanishing interface is always related to a python error. To know exactly what is going wrong you need python exceptions display to be enabled. To get them enabled edit the file (My Documents\My Games\Beyond The Sword\CivilizationIV.ini) with notepad. Find the line:

HidePythonExceptions = 1

Change 1 to 0.

Reload your game. You should get a message. Take a screenshot and post it here. If possible someone will be able to solve the problem and post a small patch.

Great Mod. Howver, in the three games that I have played with this mod, I keep getting a CTD in the Medieval era. The game info is as follows:

1. Map:
Size: Standard
Script: Perfect World (latest version)

2. Operating System - Vista 32 Bit

3. Civs Involved in Game: Khymer, German , Japanese, Byzantine, Mali, Arab and Inca

4. Civ I was playing: Ottoman

I tried to attach a copy of the log file for this game and the saved game as of the date of the CTD. However, it would not upload.

I really would like to experience this mod past the medieval period. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Try uploading the log in a zip-archive. I assume the file size won't let you. In the mean time you can try locating the error by deleting civ's one by one in the Worldbuilder.

To get an educated guess to start with you should turn on "Show enemy moves" and "Show friendly moves" in the savegame of the turn before the crash. Then write down which civ you see moving prior to the crash. Reload the game of the turn before the crash, make a few security copies (if you wish) and enter the Worldbuilder. Start deleting the last Civ you saw moving, exit the world builder and hit "Enter". And so on if the game still crashes.

@ Steeler;

Have you tried disabling the espionage option? This might do the trick as HITM sometimes CTD when running with espionage left on..at least in my case it is.

I saw that possible fix. I did disable the espionage option in a game that I am playing now. So far, only one CTD and I am past the medieval period.

Thanks for the response.

I think that Evliya is on to something. I started deleting civs. The civ that went after me was the Khmer. After deleting them, the game continued. However, I looked at the Incas (the civ that moved after the Khmer). I noticed that the Incas had several spies on the board. I went back on put the Khmer back into the game and as the Inca tried an an esp. mission against the Khmer. The the game continued after the successful esp. mission. It might have something to do with the mission selected or if a spy is caught. I will have to test this theroy on the other game that I save and CTD.

The problem is the foreign spies. They do cause CTD, in the late game very often (because there are so much).

But if you use the 2.01 civgamecore.dll, this does not happen. You can even replace the 2.02 file with the 2.01 and then load your current game.

Only changes seen so far: the spy promotion won´t work properly and it seems the guerilla unit has no hidden nationality.

This worked at least for me *perfect*. I do have XP and after the dll-change, there was no CTD the rest of the game.
