Beyond the Sword PitBoss (Hamachi)

I also setup clear rules covering the double move exploit and a prohibition against war for 20 turns. In your game we would not be down a player now with that rule. What are you going to do the first time somebody complains about being a victim of the double move?

You must have a local ISP to post here. I would wager that ISP could provide you with a free e-mail account that could be used for the notifications.

As to Zenn, he probably didn't bother playing his turn as he saw the situation as hopeless. Again, this should not happen. It makes no sense for a player to die just because another player made a lucky guess in which way to send his warrior.

Hamachi is necessary to play in this game only because you made it so. I have no experience with Hamachi and can see no benefit to it for this game. It runs the same as all of my other games. Maybe if you were running this through GameSpy Hamachi would be beneficial.

Saying that you set up CivStats without giving the url is not particularily player-friendly. The password was another fumble.

A good host tries to make it easy for the players to minimize frustrations.

You apparently see me as whining; I'm only offering you the benefit of my experience.

Civstats has been fixed. I have apologised and may I say if one of the players clamourig for it had offered some guidance then there would not have been a problem.

I don't have a Local ISP that I use, My hotmail is what I am linked to here as well. I made numerous enquiries as to how to host behind a ADSL router but seemingly it's just not do-able. Hamachi lets you see the server, that is its purpose and so far its doing well.

The rules of this game were set as quite basic to play with the new 10 civs. The map was fractal so it's NOT going to be even. I would usually prefer Inland sea. But ces't la vie

Ok lets get back to Civ.

I am convinced Whip is a woman.
Dude go home and cry to your mother or shut up and play.
If you can't check once a day to play don't play and quit wasting our time.

Heh, I've been called worse.

If you don't want to waste time the answer is the auto-notice.

I'll try to explain this again. With the auto-notice everybody gets notified at the turn change. That means they know that the game is available to be played by them at that time. If everybody hops in when, or soon after, the notice arrives the turn is over way before the timer runs out.

The alternative of everybody entering the game whenever they feel like it, once per day, results in most of the timer being used up as some of those players will get in just before the timer runs out.

Would you rather play a game that takes 9 months, or one that takes a year?

Whiplash....I do NOT have an smtp server. However Civstats is emailing you when it is a new turnn if you register there.

game = 10 Civs your password will be 6037 register as any nation as BTS ones are not there yet

I am glad that you were finally able to fix the problems. Considering that this is your first Pitboss game, I was willing to allow you some slack as you get on with hosting this game. I think for every game you should make a rule that no warfare is to be started until after a certain date. That does make things fairer on everyone, especially those who start with hunting. Talk to other hosts, such as "the oob" and others that have had experience in starting up games on how it isbest to solve such issues.

I was thinking Gents. (and Ladies if any?)

If you wanted a restart with a more balanced Map and Advanced Start I would be ok with that. That would allow Zen Back in.

Thoughts?

What is the map size?

I didn't get an answer to this simple question. I already have contact with a neighbor and we have one dead player at what, turn 5? This suggests that we have a very small map for the number of players. Not that this is necessarily bad; it's just that the players need to know that so that they can set their strategy accordingly. A tight map with early conflict could be a fun game; but only if it is planned and announced. Under this condition players may not want to start with a scout. They also may not walk a warrior until they have warrior #2. They might want to build barracks rather than library. They might ........

Troy, I know you're tired of my preaching; but it's absurd to launch a game without announcing the map/settings/rules. A host will normally negotiate these with the players before launch.

Personally, I'm ambivalent about a restart.

I expect some players won't want a restart because they perceive themselves to be in a good position.

Whiplash.

All you had to do was look at the Victory screen to see that it's Standard/Fractal that's what I just did to remind myself.

If it was so absurd, why did you join? Or ask those questions at the time? I wasn't keeping secrets!

I gave control of my civ to the AI as I am leaving for a trip tomorrow for 10 days. I'll see you all when I get back (hopefully!)

No need to restart on my account. I am hosting game soon myself and it will have regular meetup sessions so I probably couldn't afford the time for this one if it also had regular meet-ups and if it doesn't it will take too long for me before it finishes.

I think we're spread all across the world so a meet-up time would certainly be problematic.

Civstats had crashed when I checked this morning. So I rebooted the game at the last auto-save which seemed to be after Classical's move

I have checked and that is definitely the last turn although 'weirdly' it says Classical has not moved! Perhaps he did not hit enter.

I hope I have not inconvenienced anyone! Just under 2 hrs till next turn at time of posting.

I did notice that problem while I was playing. I did press enter, but I did not see myself as moving at all. There must have been a problem with the website while I was online, since it said that all the games that I played, I did not even enter into, which showed that there was nothing wrong on my end.

ok Whip!! Well this weekend is NOT going to happen. Is my Wife's B-day..

But otherwise I'm all for it
