The Sultanate of Gujarat should actually historically be quite friendly to you. Main trade partners, brothers in faith and so on.

If its pepper he's talking about can he get with the new NESing convention of calling pepper, pepper, not spice.
Spices include cloves, nutmeg and mace. Cloves are a touch iffy. However the NESing convention of spice as of now includes cloves (this being euro-centric and all I don't see it likely that Europeans will settle on the other sources). Drug (in the historic sense) also deserves a clear and concise definition.
