Blue Marble Terrain

Here. I just made a comparison screenshot using every type of terrain and took pics with the original graphics and the Blue Marble graphics. If I were you, I'd add these to the first post.

The original graphics:

The Blue Marble graphics:

And here is a table showing the types of the terrain:

BlueMarble 3.0 will be available for download in a few days, once BtS will be officially released. For the first time BlueMarble will not only contain terrain graphics, but also a new optional 'aerial' interface design for Civ4, giving it a lighter, more modern look. These improvements will be available for all Civ4 versions (Vanilla, Warlords, BtS).

Special for BtS' terrific "Final Frontier - Civilization in space" game the new BlueMarble version will also contain a special set of space images from the NASA Hubble telescope, prepared in a way so that Final Frontier will be looking even more natural (sorry, no screenshots allowed yet).

The traditional BlueMarble earth terrain itself will not change that much. The plains will appear a bit more 'golden', to distinguish them better from grasslands.

The graphics are excellent but i have a small problem with the mod. Why are some of the hills black? If it was meant to be a shadow it looks like thick oil all over the hill and adding shadows like that doesn't make sense because it looks the same all the time, wouldn't the shadow move when the sun moves in real life?

Also some of the one tile lakes are very black looking aswell, or more of a very, very dark blue.

Was this intended?

No, this is not intended and I didn't see this before. BlueMarble does not add extra shadows or extra blackness intentionally. I am afraid that your strange results might be related to your graphics hardware/software. You could try selecting the "LowRes" version of BlueMarble during installation, but there remains a small number of people who find that BlueMarble simply does not work on their hardware as expected, even though I tried hard to keep compatibility to the original files. Sorry.

After some messing around with the world builder i realised it only does that when i regenerate the map, Also if i save my game and then reload the dark areas are gone. :crazyeye:

I don't know if this has already been covered elsewhere, but I'm just wondering if blue marble 2.0 is compatible with BtS? Yes, no? Or is there anything else I'll need to do to get it working?

thx.

Sorry, no, BlueMarble V2.0 does not work for BtS. It does no harm, it simply does not know the extension. I would like to release a BtS-compatible version, but only after testing it with BtS retail. Unfortunately, as long as BtS is not available in my city yet, I cannot test it, but once it will be available and tested, I will release V3.0 that will contain some hopefully pleasant new things and suprises (optionally selectable if you do not like them).

Ok, thanks ColdFever, I'll keep an eye out for v3.0 - looking forward to seeing it in action :goodjob: .

Perfect. Thank you. I love these textures.
A warning to anyone who hasn't used these terrains yet...once you try them you won't want to go back!

Will I have to uninstall Blue Marble v.2 to be able install BtS(I have Civ Vanilla)? If so, how do I uninstall it?

@ColdFever- I have a copy of BTS and blue marble is working flawlessly with it. I transferred it from my warlords mod to my bts mod and it works as it should. Why is this XD

I am glad that you have no BtS problems after a manual install. I will check myself once my BtS copy arrives, then I will create und upload an extended installer with the updated and new Blue Marble files I designed.
