Update 47: January – June, 2263
Born on the Fourth of July

Inter-Faction Reports

NEW FACTION FORMED FROM NGC AND ORLANDO. The New Gulf Commonwealth and the Grand City of Orlando are no more. The two smaller factions have reached an agreement which have led to a Treaty of Unification. The new Grand Republic of Columbia has been created, an independent state that now rivals Jacksonia for dominance in the Sunshine Wasteland. Representatives of both have made statements suggesting that the new union is a challenge for supremacy in the region. Columbia, as it is known to most people, has united these people in a vision of the future, reclaiming the grandeur and glory of old Florida and the old South in general. Elections have been announced for the end of the year and every five years after, for the new head of state, called a President. Observers from other factions in the region wonder if this marks a new balance of power in the Sunshine Wasteland after the old order was toppled in the wake of the collapse of the Sunshine Kingdom.

GREEN BEAR CORPS ASSIST IN JACKSONVILLE SALVAGING OPERATIONS. The end of the Sunshine Kingdom and the creation of new Sunshine Wasteland powers has led to growing concern among some of the remaining small states of the Floridian Peninsula. What security the Sunshine Kingdom represented in the east has been wiped away and others have stepped up to the opportunity. The Green Bear Corps has publically accepted a security contract with the Sunshine Trade League, sending their elite guardsmen to assist in salvage operations in southern Jacksonville. Reports from the field have indicated that the Green Bear Corps proved their worth, disabling traps and keeping both monsters and bandits away from salvage teams. Salvagers from the League have offered their thanks to the soldiers of the Green Bear Corps.

JACKSONIA ABSORBS FELLOWSHIP OF THE PALM. Jacksonia has made another strong move towards consolidating its power in the Sunshine Wasteland. The Fellowship of the Palm, Jacksonia’s ally in the late war against the Sunshine Kingdom, has been announced as the new state religion of Jacksonia. Old restrictions upon preaching in marketplaces have been lifted, allowing the Fellowship the exclusive right for themselves. The civil administration of the territories of the Fellowship has been granted to Jacksonia, allowing the religious order to focus on spiritual and other affairs. Much has been made of the Order of the Rass-Lin Monks becoming an offshoot of both the Fellowship and the Jacksonian government. These stealthy warriors were known for their assassinations of leaders of the Cult of the Damned and other public figures opposed to the Fellowship. Other faiths in the Sunshine Wasteland are concerned about what the Rass-Lin warriors may do with the backing of one of the great powers of the wastes.

EDGE TURNED OVER TO JACKSONIAN RULE. While the Sunshine Trading League and Jacksonia were allies at the end of the war with the Sunshine Kingdom, there has been a matter of dispute between the two. The former Kingdom settlement of Edge was taken over by the League towards the end of the fighting peacefully when the town surrendered unconditionally. After negotiations between the two factions, the administration of Edge was turned over this year to Jacksonia for further use. The old facilities have been maintained in place, while new temporary bridges were used to reach the town from the mainland. The garrison of the League was withdrawn and most inhabitants have left, to pursue new futures in Saint Augustine and Jacksonville. A new garrison has been deployed to continue the maintenance of water production facilities in Edge, while leadership in the Fruitlands decide the community’ fate.

ROYAL SMITHSONIAN DISBANDED. The new Jacksonian management of Nasacity has announced the disbanding of the old Royal Smithsonian. This museum, consisting of the history and pride of the people of the Sunshine Kingdom, has been dismantled and shipped back to Fort Plenty in the Fruitlands. The exhibits have been transferred to the newly constructed Museum of the Victors, called by many to be just the Jacksonian Smithsonian. The old rocketry exhibits of NASA and the collections previously retrieved by the Royal Archeological Society have formed the bulk of the new museum, as the only new unique addition is the Hall of Triumphs. Particularly unique loot and trophies from the battles of the Jacksonian people are collected through the Hall, the prize collection being the personal assets of the Bede family taken when Nasacity fell. Other trophies include a collection of Vault-Tec gear from Vault 44, a piece of the wrecked Minorne War monument from New Fort Cocoa, and old banners and books from the Cult of the Damned. Unlike the Royal Smithsonian, the Museum of the Victors does require an entry fee for admittance and upkeep of the facility.

FIRST NEW WORLD SERIES HELD. Even as the region remains gripped in chaos and anarchy, some form of civilization has begun to return as the towns of the Georgia and Florida Reclamation Districts participate in the New World Series. A series of games had been played between over twenty different teams from each town of the Reclamation Districts. The games were well attended and broadcast over local radio, achieving a captive audience from throughout the region. While most of these games and teams would probably be considered somewhat hodgepodge by prewar standards, they still provided entertainment for the masses. The final game would be listened to by over twenty thousand people through Georgia and Florida, played between the Mariana Maulers and the Cleveland Reavers. The Mariana Maulers emerged triumphant, bringing glory and fame to themselves through achieving the first victory in a new era of sports.

RAIDER FEDERATION DISSOLVES. The Raider Federation, once feared throughout the Georgia Badlands, has disappeared from the political map of the wastelands. Last year’s attack on the Florida Reclamation District left the heart of the Federation gutted and without its best weapons and leadership. The few who survived consisted of only the core of the Steelmen and various other clans whose names have since been lost. The Enclave, the Georgia Reclamation District, and the Florida Reclamation District prepared an offensive to wipe the last of the Federation from the earth. Surprisingly, the expected battles never took place. The forces arrayed for the great campaign found that the Raider Federation and the Steelmen had reorganized and departed. The towns of Albany and Pelham were razed as the raiders departed, and the Georgia Reclamation District has taken over administration of towns in the surrounding area.

TRIBES DIE AS WAR IN SOUTH ENDS. Brutal warfare in the south that had begun between the Survivalist Union and the Sawgrass Tribe has at last come to a conclusion, but not in any manner expected by the participants. A collection of previously unencountered tribesmen from the southern Miami area called the Dademen arrived at the gates of Stilt Town and tried to capture it. Hundreds were killed in the resultant fighting and the Dademen were defeated. The few survivors were caught by the Survivalist Union and are believed to have been enslaved. The Sawgrass Tribe would receive its own comeuppance not long after, as the Survivalist Union marshalled its militias for a final offensive. With so many of the tribesmen killed in the fight against the Dademen, those who remained were outmatched by the Union’s forces. The two towns of the Tribe fell to the Survivalist Union after two brief battles, and the Union now stands triumphant as the only free power south of Jacksonia.

Faction Reports

Alisonia
Spoiler :

Alisonia has begun taking its first steps into a much larger wasteland than they had previously ever imagined. Unfortunately these brave efforts have been met with tragedy and death on numerous occasions, with the odd triumph thrown into the mix. A severe residential fire in the dorms of the university led to the deaths of many people, who had been sleeping at the time and were caught unaware. Others were killed during scouting and salvaging efforts in Nashville itself, as the heavily armed salvagers found that Alisonia is the only human settlement of any significance in the ruins. The rest of the city is heavily populated with thousands of ghouls, and a large number of vicious mirelurks along the river. Around a dozen were injured or killed in the salvaging efforts, and some of those injured died of their wounds. However, they did happen across an old arsenal and garrison, which had only two old howitzers within. The artillery pieces were deemed to still be functional and were returned to the Parthenon. Precious little salvage was recovered beyond that. Another expedition was sent southeast towards Smyrna but ran into a large clan of raiders that nearly managed to wipe out the Alisonian force. Only those with power armor survived, pulling back away from superior numbers.

Queen’s Challenge: Fevered discussion has begun on how new immigrants should precisely prove their devotion to our goddess. Some have suggested a series of harsh punishments and flagellation. Others have claimed that merely memorizing some of the holy verses should be sufficient and not nearly as painful. What sort of level of specifications should we require for new immigrants?

Columbia
Spoiler :

What were once the Grand City of Orlando and the New Gulf Commonwealth have unified into a larger political entity that has offered a sizeable force against the powerhouse that is Jacksonia. After several months of negotiations resulting from the quick collapse of the Sunshine Kingdom, the two factions have determined that their forces alone would not be enough to repel attacks by either the Enclave or the Jacksonians. Seeking to remedy their strategic weakness, the Treaty of Unification has resulted in the creation of the Grand Republic of Columbia. The new country is to be headed by an elected president, and the first elections are slated to take place later this year. The Grand Minister of Orlando has been selected to be the Interim President before elections take place. For the most part, the newly unified factions are relieved with the sense of political security this has brought them, allowing them to be less fearful of the consequences of a major attack. Some muttering and dissent against increased taxes for Orlando has existed, and plenty are unsure if this new union can withstand the test of time and even the first elective process to take place in the next few months.

Interim President’s Challenge: With the year coming to an end we face our first Presidential elections for the new republic. Numerous candidates have stepped forward to become new possible leaders for our great faction. The Interim President has decided to run for reelection, a popular point of support from the Orlando area. A member of the Ryan family, known as a skilled researcher, has begun running with widespread support throughout the whole of the former NGC. Lastly, the lucky former Governor of the NGC, Edmund Fitzgerald, has also thrown his hat into the ring. Who should we elect as the first President of Columbia?

Darcy’s Raiders
Darcy's Raiders were, originally, the acting crew of a US Supercarrier attached as part of the US 7th Fleet, tasked with engaging the Chinese navy protecting Shanghai and providing support through the USS "Goliath" aircraft carrier. The fleet was traveling through the Pacific, but had stopped by a military port in Hawaii to make final preparations when the bombs suddenly fell in 2077, the initial blast of a close-proximity warhead disintegrated a majority of the fleet, and sending what little remnants that managed to desperately evade the danger-zone out into the open seas. The powerful waves had utterly destroyed The Goliath's engines and rotors, leaving it dead in the water as it was slowly washed away at sea. Realizing that the apocalypse had just been unleashed upon the world, the crew and its original captain, Miles Darcy, began attempting to forge a community upon the vessel. With some effort, they scrapped whatever they did not require, but maintained some old fighters for a future when the ship would come to a halt or face other airborne enemies. They erected a botanical garden on the launch decks, surviving off of that, as the waters showed to be dangerously contaminated to the point that the fish were actively mutating, and the only water they could drink was from the ship's water purification and rejuvenation plant. In time, the Great War became legend, and as always; they endured. The fourth-generation US Navy crew under the leadership of Captain William Darcy, now nicknamed: "Darcy's Raiders", saw land in the distance. It was too good to be true. Whether it was North-America, or China - It did not matter. They had reached their salvation at last.
Spoiler :

Captain’s Challenge[/b]: As we come ashore we have spotted a number of migrating immigrants and travelers heading to unknown destinations. Some of these people are just looking for a new and safe home for them and their families. How do we respond to those who may come to us looking for a home?

Dademen
The tribe of the Dademen, having survived the hazards of Miami for so many years, has at last met a challenge they could not succeed at. After receiving foreboding warnings about an impending disaster from a mystic, they packed up and headed north to carve out a new destiny. Using their long founded survival skills, they avoided the worst hazards of the Miami area and spotted their first conquest, a town built upon stilts in the wilderness and tall grasses. The best warriors of the Dademen infiltrated the town using advanced stealth technology, but they were detected and found out. The soldiers of the Sawgrass Tribe slaughtered those who attempted to sneak in, but opened the gates as per the scheduled moment, allowing for an ambush and massacre of the surviving Dademen warriors. In the close quarters of the town, the superior firearms of the Dademen were outmatched by the advanced melee weapons deployed by the Sawgrass tribals. They had very little chance to survive, and the few survivors of the Dademen fled to the east. Here they encountered a large force from the Survivalist Union, and were either killed or enslaved. The Dademen came to an end, their leader dead and the few who survived put to back breaking labor at the hands of their new masters.

Florida Reclamation District
Spoiler :

The Florida Reclamation District has remained focused upon collecting the resources it needs to remain a serious contender for dominance in the Sunshine Wasteland. The creation of Columbia and the expansion of Jacksonia has established fears of eventual conflict for control of the northern part of Florida. To gather the resources the District needs, a massive expedition was sent north into Tallahassee, larger than any previous. Considering the size of the force, losses were surprisingly low and contained, as plenty of salvage was retrieved for future construction. Similar success was had when an expedition was sent back to Fort Rucker to retrieve any supplies and equipment that could be remaining. The fort was still somewhat defended by robots, but they were easily dispatched and scrapping began quickly. Essentially all useful materials that remained were brought back to Mariana without any difficulty.

The District has sought to continue expansion in the tradition of the Georgia Reclamation District, seeking to use Enclave backing to dominate its neighbors. The first diplomatic envoy was sent by vertibird to the town of Bellto, transported by an Enclave pilot. The people of Bellto had heard of the FRD’s successes in fighting both the Westerlings and the Raider Federation and were more than willing to join up. They were quickly admitted to the FRD, pushing the boundaries further towards the old Alabama border. The Governor had less success with the town of Clayhatchee further north, as they scoffed at the rather meager forces brought as part of the envoy. They seemed to indicate they had no need for the protection of the FRD and were not willing to submit to the restrictions revolving around mutations that are part and parcel of Reclamation District membership.

Many believed that the primary conflict of the year would revolve around a combined effort to destroy the last remnants of the Raider Federation. Considerable time was taken by the Enclave and Reclamation Districts to put together a combined plan of operations to launch into southern Georgia. By the time the offensive was taken, the armies of the FRD marched north to find their enemies had departed. They traveled on foot towards Pelham from Vault 24, and stopped at the newly discovered trading hub of Spence. The town there acknowledged that the raiders had packed up and left nearly a month before. Without a war to fight, the army returned home and disbanded without incident.

Governor’s Challenge:The Mariana Maulers returned home triumphant and surprisingly a large number of young people have looked up to these baseball players as heroes. Some of our older residents are displeased about this, claiming that obsessing over players as bigger than life figures leads to the wrong examples for the children. They have made calls for the District’s media to focus on true heroes like salvagers or warriors rather than people who can hit a ball with a bat. Others claim that these sort of restrictions are nonsensical and infringe upon freedom of press. How do we respond to these debates?

Fort Rome
Spoiler :

Fort Rome has launched dramatic efforts to develop their economic potential and stockpiles. Large amounts of food and materials were traded on the open market to add more slaves and weapons to the arsenal. The new slaves have been dispersed to the settlements of the young faction, and immediately been put to work. The new weaponry has been added to the armory at Fort Rome itself, most of the weapons apparently produced from a facility somewhere out west. An expedition was sent to scout the routes to the city of Chattanooga, hoping to find a good road for future salvage. They went east from the town of Neapolis, and immediately scouted out a small settlement called the Free Pitt. The people here greeted the scouts with friendliness, allowing them to stay within the walls before moving along on their planned route. A large number of various creatures and hives were mapped out and light salvaging took place. The prize of the collection of salvage was an abandoned military truck still holding a large amount of laser weapons in crates. They were collected and dutifully returned. Chattanooga itself was deemed to be an irradiated mess, filled with ghouls and other creatures. The best the scouts could say is that there were not as many creatures as they would have expected from a city of that size.

Consul’s Challenge: A number of our people have once again publically emphasized their distaste for slavery, especially in the large numbers we are currently using them in. While they are bringing in substantial amounts of salvage, some of our leaders are concerned that they cannot be controlled when they outnumber us nearly five to one. They claim we take a great risk and that future additions to our slaves’ ranks could not be as tame as the ones we have received. How do we respond to these concerns?

Georgia Reclamation District
Spoiler :

The bulk of the Georgia Reclamation District’s efforts were dedicated towards a coming offensive against the Raider Federation. Newly recovered vertibirds were deployed over the course of several weeks to transit soldiers and equipment from the District to the independent towns of Two Ty and Arlington. The local townsfolk were thrilled to have the support of the District, offering soldiers and aid of all types. They even readily agreed to join the GRD upon the defeat of the Federation and its remaining armies. To the surprise of everyone, however, when the full force of the Enclave and the Reclamation Districts were brought to bear, the raiders had already departed for points east. They had evaded Georgian scouts and patrols to move undetected with what men and equipment they had left. Local administrators immediately took over control of Two Ty and Arlington, bringing them into the District. Little else of note took place, beyond the usual salvage and scouting operations, bringing together a clearer map of Georgia for the use of the Governor. Casualties were suffered, but when tough resistance was met, artillery proved highly effective in diminishing the threat.

Governor’s Challenge: A group of people have recently begun meeting in Demon’s Rest, calling themselves the Adventurers’ Society. These people apparently take great thrill in exploring new lands and finding lost treasures for themselves. Some of their exploits have begun to be published by local presses and this has brought a matter of concern to the Governor. It is well known that some wonders of the old world are best not disturbed, and these Society members seem intent on disturbing everything. Should we crack down on their plans or allow them to roam about as they have to date?

Green Bear Corps
Spoiler :

The Green Bear Corps has famously entered into the world as a more recognized mercenary group, now they have been detached from service with the Sunshine Kingdom. A lucrative contract with the Sunshine Trade League proved highly successful as the year began. A large expedition was sent to the east into Jacksonville to protect traders and salvagers on the south side of the ruins, keeping various critters at bay. Despite public proclamations, the scouts and guards reported that there was in fact very little bandit or monster activity to begin with before they began operations. Mostly they were given experience in disarming traps and preventing their usage rather than any open fighting or battle. Still, this has been a major coup for the Corps, creating good publicity and bringing wider awareness of the mercenary group’s skills to the wasteland.

The largest independent operation launched by the Green Bear Corps was directed at the ruins of the Mayport Naval Station. Previous scouting expeditions had confirmed that a portion of the base was still intact and highly patrolled by local automated defenses. A well-armed expedition was deployed to begin salvaging efforts in the base, in the hopes of recovering any technology of apparent value. They proved to be wildly successful in these efforts, bringing down the bulk of the base’s defenses in the course of their mission. Unfortunately a good number, mostly raw recruits, were killed in the fighting, while veterans made sure to stay alive themselves. The greatest achievement of the expedition was the remote disabling of protectron security patrols, and the takeover of their commands. The robots were brought under the voice control of the expedition, and returned to the bunker. These new military robots could prove enormously effective in either training or defense.

Captain-General’s Challenge: We lack the knowledge or skills to do much of anything special with the protectrons now that we have them but some of our people have made a suggestion. Using the robots as “live-fire” practice targets in the bunker would almost definitely result in an improvement of our military skill. Of course, the downsides would be possible losses among less worthy recruits and the eventual destruction of all of the robots in the process. Some of our advisors suggest that such an improvement in overall military skill could be well worth the loss of these dubiously useful mechanical men. How do we respond to this proposal?

Jacksonia
Spoiler :

Jacksonia has been focused as a nation upon the continued consolidation and development of the new conquests from the former Sunshine Kingdom. The annexation of the lands of the Fellowship of the Palm was the cornerstone of the consolidation. The Fellowship was proclaimed to be the state religion of Jacksonia and new churches have opened up overnight throughout the Fruitlands and other towns. The old intelligence network of the Fellowship has been integrated into the Jacksonian security system, aiming to protect the faction against future attacks from organizations like the Sons of Oscar. Many people had to be dedicated to caravans and transportation of weapons and goods throughout Jacksonia, causing a bit of a decline in resource production. Increased intensive trading with the Mayan Republic further consumed the manpower of the faction. A survey was launched of the newly conquered Paradise, attempting to determine if a secondary Great Wall would be possible to protect the new GECK Fertile area. Unfortunately, engineers have determined that due to the swampy terrain and large amount of groundwater, the area simply could not support a wall the size or scale of the one protecting the Fruitlands. They have recommended simply making sure the frontiers are secure, rather than attempting to enclose the whole region.

Overseer’s Challenge: With so many caps coming in from the sale of surplus food, a large number of our people are wondering why taxes remain so high. They have argued that taxation seems superfluous when the wealth created from Paradise and the Fruitlands provides so much already. The anti-taxation movement in growing in political strength and while they are not yet unruly, they could be a formidable opposition should their demands not be met. How do we respond to their demands?

Louisiana Reclamation District
Spoiler :

The Louisiana Reclamation District has launched its largest expansion effort to date, looking to incorporate surrounding independent towns and areas into its territory. They had mixed levels of success in the diplomatic entreaties to these other communities, finding a lack of enthusiasm from Hackdirt and Riveraineville. There does appear to be room for future negotiations, but clearly not as readily successful as others. The towns of Suam, Baker, and Denham were far more receptive to the District, seeing an opportunity for improved mutual trade and security. They were happy to sign agreements with the LRD’s leadership, bringing them into the larger faction by June. Thanks to the close proximity of the towns, the security of the area has not been in doubt and very little raider activity has taken place recently.

Part of the improved security was a major military operation launched by the LRD and the Enclave geared towards clearing out known raider dens east of the Mississippi River. Over a thousand men were dedicated with small arms towards the clearing out of known location of raider clans. These efforts proved difficult, as this was the first major offensive of any type launched by the Louisiana Reclamation District. Hundreds of casualties were suffered at the hands of traps and enemy gunfire in the dens cleared out. Enclave air and fire support helped immensely, but did not do much to stop the increased casualty rates in urban areas. By the end of the first six months of the year, the Governor was pleased to announce that the Route 61 between Sorrento and Baton Rouge had been cleared of raiders. Skeptics claim that the governor has not mentioned mirelurks or other wasteland hazards.

Governor’s Challenge: The inclusion of so many new people into our community has seen an influx of new faiths and religions. Among them are some missionaries of the Fellowship of the Palm, a religious organization from the east. We have heard some unsettling rumors of barbarity about this particular faith, and are unsure on whether or not to allow them to continue to preach among our people. Should we allow them to continue their missionary activities in the LRD?

Maritime Collective
Spoiler :

The Maritime Collective has entered a dark time in its young history. Responding to rumors and chatter from among Pensacola’s fishermen, a boat was deployed to investigate a number of strange sightings and occurrences. No one is sure what happened after that, beyond an explosion and the loss of the vessel with all hands. Expeditions sent to Mobile and Biloxi had better luck, finding plenty of salvage and equipment to return home. The Biloxi expedition even managed to clear out an old air force base and find a small number of intact fighter aircraft. They managed to retrieve this craft and haul them back to the airfield at Pensacola. Unfortunately, these bright moments were only brief highlights in six months of suffering. Food and water shortages have struck and hundreds have died or simply fled the Collective, as there was not nearly enough supplies to go around. The towns of the Collective seem to be on the verge of collapse as the government struggles to maintain the status quo.

Mayor’s Challenge: Our people have been dying in larger numbers than ever thanks to a shortage of food and water. The border towns are on the verge of revolt and rebellion, claiming that the Collective is no longer helping to keep the supply situation under control. There have been already three assassination attempts on the mayor and things are definitely coming to a head. If we don’t get the food and water situation under control, things are likely to go very badly for us. How do we respond to this crisis?

Night Stalkers
Spoiler :

The Night Stalkers have been faced with increasing resistance in the ruins of southern Savannah. Salvagers were ordered into the ruins once more, making sure to cautiously cooperate with those from the Reclaimed Free Republic. Unfortunately their efforts were hindered by a growing raider presence massing near the bunker. Clearly this large force of raiders hoped to seize the bunker and its wealth for themselves and attacked. The force was very large, and they drove a large number of ghouls before them to weaken the Night Stalkers’ defenses. Determined to protect the bunker door, the Stalkers were forced to fight in the open, but had the advantage of vastly superior firepower. The weapons used managed to disintegrate most of the advancing horde, and the raiders were driven back for surprisingly low casualties considering the scale of the attack. Some minor repairs had to be done to farming equipment outside of the walls, but with some new equipment built, it actually seems as though production has been dramatically improved in recent months.

LTC’s Challenge: We have been contacted by another group of power armored individuals calling themselves the Enclave. They have stated that they are the remnants of the old American government, and have offered a proposal. They have asked us to take up services once more as a functioning military unit serving the American people, to be provided with the supplies we need to survive. They possess the proper clearance codes and information mentioned in old documents and appear to be legitimate. People from the Reclaimed Free Republic have loudly decried them however for alleged war crimes. How do we respond to the Enclave’s proposal?

People’s Republic of America
Spoiler :

The People’s Republic of America had a quiet start to the year. They have managed to avoid the attention of any significant hostiles and most immigrants continue to bypass the Republic in favor of more fertile lands to the south. The only reach endeavor undertaken was an expedition to the small town of Lumber Bridge to the northwest of St. Pauls. The expedition passed through Rex on the way there, and did some brief scouting. The town was deemed to be inhabited by a variety of hostile wasteland animals. Lumber Bridge was the same way, and most of the critters within were more than happy to remain away from the expedition. They managed to conduct a considerable amount of salvage before returning home without incident.

Premier’s Challenge: A group of giant ants appears to be constructing a new hive near St. Pauls. At the moment they do not seem to have a large amount of numbers, and some of our militia have requested the use of 100 Ammunition for explosives to destroy the hive before it becomes properly situated. On the other hand, it is far enough away that it is unlikely to interfere with trade or travel any time in the near future. How do we respond to this?

Reclaimed Free Republic
Spoiler :

The Reclaimed Free Republic has managed to continue onward and increase material production and reclamation. Salvaging efforts in both Savannah and Augusta have continued to report plenty of success in their operations to date. Similar forces covering what is known as Reclamation Road have had their own less dramatic successes, except for one incredible find. Salvagers working along the western part of the Reclamation Road found an old bunker, sealed off to the wastes. After thorough investigation and the efforts of a dedicated hacker, they managed to open up the seals and fling open the bunker door. The bunker was entered with no resistance and they discovered no sign of any human life or settlement ever existing here. Instead, it appears the bunker was used as a storage depot for rations for the United States Army. They appear to be entirely intact and even edible, though all agree that the taste leaves something to be desired.

The largest military operation launched by the Republic was an effort to clear out what is known as the West Road to the former territories of the Alliance of Free Georgia. Caravans and travelers alike have found the road extremely hazardous and difficult to traverse without going through the territory of the Georgia Reclamation District. Almost a thousand militia were sent along the West Road, hoping to improve its security. Raiders were cleared out of both Norwood and Union Point, two towns fairly close to the Warren. Scouts reported a number of nonhumanoid hazards elsewhere along the road, but they avoided the expedition and the expedition similarly avoided combat with them, as ammunition remained low. The expedition had to turn back upon reaching Jefferson, almost towards the end of the West Road, when they encountered a large group of raiders with guns. As the expedition had no ammunition of their own, they were forced to withdraw back to the Warren.

Chancellor’s Challenge: Recently local papers have begun railing against the unhealthiness of Nuka-Cola. Many bottles of this soft drink survived the war, and it seems that some is even still in production somewhere in the wasteland. People have claimed that in addition to the rads that inevitably come with each drink, the sheer amount of artificial flavoring inside of it is very unhealthy for consumption. They have called for restrictions upon the sale of Nuka-Cola in the Republic. How do we respond to these demands?

Sawgrass Tribe
The Sawgrass Tribe had struggled ever since it first began venturing out into the larger Sunshine Wasteland. Disease and war were a constant companion for these tribals, and at last, the hazards of the wastes seem to have caught up with them. The first blow came when the group known as the Dademen emerged from the southern swamps and attacked Stilt Town. During the fighting, which had been anticipated by Sawgrass scouts, the mysterious Mr. E was destroyed in the combat by a brave Dademan. The loss of the tribe’s century-old leader proved devastating as no one was sure what to do afterward. The Dademen had been defeated but the Survivalist Union still lurked to the east. The Union mustered up a large force and quickly captured New Immokalee without any casualties. The town was defenseless and had to surrender when the armed force approached. The fighting at Stilt Town was more brutal, but the Survivalist Union had superior weapons and numbers, as well as being hopped up on all sorts of combat related chems. The Sawgrass fell in large numbers, and their town was overrun. Many were enslaved while a few were allowed to continue their lives, among a large number of settlers from the Union. The Sawgrass Tribe had fallen to that eternal human constant: war.

Seekers of Knowledge
Spoiler :

The Seekers of Knowledge have moved from their temporary encampment in the hostile ruins of Memphis. Having escaped the desolate lands west of the Mississippi River they have hoped to find a better life in the east. They set their destination as a land optimistically named Water Valley, hoping to find a new paradise for themselves. Unfortunately they had a number of encounters with less friendly people, leading to small battles with raider clans in both Coldwater and Como. On the other hand, they did encounter what seemed to be a friendly settlement in the town of Hernando. They even offered a safe place for the tribe to camp before they headed south. When they reached Water Valley they found the area to be a bit more barren than they hoped, though there were certainly plenty of local sources of water. Scouts, after comparing notes believed that the area of Senatobia would be far better suited for a permanent settlement should the Seekers decide to settle in the Mississippi area.

Dean Phoenix’s Challenge: Some of our people have suggested that we should take the opportunity to “recruit” the weaker migrants in the area who have refused to try to join us normally. While we continue to accept immigrants, these people have suggested that those who do not join willingly should be brought into the tribe as forced laborers or slaves. How do we respond to this proposal?

Steelmen
Spoiler :

The Raider Federation has come to an end. After last year’s major defeat at the hands of the Enclave and the Florida Reclamation District, the new Warlord ordered the immediate evacuation of the former Atom Union. Anything that could be razed and salvaged was quickly demolished along with most of the towns’ fortifications. The few remaining people in Pelham evacuated and joined the main clan, now once again known as the Steelmen. They managed to escape Albany a matter of weeks before the full force of the Enclave and Reclamation Districts were mustered, heading southeast. They bypassed most settled and ruined towns, stopping first in the town of Berlin, home of a large raider clan which had terrorized the region. The clan was impressed by the ferocity of the Steelmen and joined up. They were helpful in convincing yet another group in Barney to do the same. The town of Morven on the other hand was occupied by giant ants and bypassed by the migrating Steelmen. The migration came to a conclusion outside of the ruins of Valdosta, as the Steelmen set up a fortified camp, with their eyes to the sky, always looking to vertibirds.

Warlord’s Challenge: Most of the new raiders we have recruited used to be part of a clan known as the Scourge, which had wiped out a faction called the Echols Republic which one existed in this area. They have their own identity that could prove a challenge to the consistency of our group. Should we attempt to suppress their traditions and culture in favor of enforcing our own, or should we continue the policies of cooperation despite culture as we did while the Raider Federation?

Sunshine Kingdom
Spoiler :

The Sunshine Kingdom has seen a significant change in management. The constant failures of Congress and elected representatives has led to the Queen taking full authority over the diminished faction. The effort they have taken is hoped to abolish concerns about continued existence and consistency of the leadership. So far most of the people of the Kingdom seem fairly pleased with this developed as the loss of the territories in the Sunshine Wasteland had resulted in a definite lack of enthusiasm for the few surviving members of Congress. Most of the congresspersons have since fled the Kingdom with their families, fearful of repercussions for their failures in duty.

Two major expeditions were sent out by the Queen, hoping to secure the territory around New Nasacity for the future. The first one was sent to the Childersburg ruins, and they were fairly successful, recovering a large amount of scrap with no resistance from local wildlife. The second expedition had significantly worse luck. They were sent out to the ruins of Talladega to wipe out the local raider encampment and conduct salvage. Unfortunately, the raiders turned out to be more numerous and better armed than previous scouts had suggested. They managed to get the drop on the Sunshine Kingdom’s forces, ambushing them. Casualties were extremely heavy and only superior equipment managed to allow the Kingdom to win the day. Over half of the expedition was killed and the rest were wounded to varying degrees of severity. Some salvage was conducted, and the guns of the raiders were collected before returning to New Nasacity.

Queen’s Challenge: The Sons of Oscar have offered us a new arrangement in repayment for our assistance over the years. They have asked for 100 2-H Guns and a permanent safe house to be established in the caverns. The safe house would be exempt from any taxation or inspections by the Kingdom. Similarly, anyone part of the Sons of Oscar would be allowed free admittance into New Nasacity without interrogation or close inspection. In exchange, they will provide us with a large amount of food and water in the next six months, in addition to a more modest amount of Materials. How do we respond to this proposal?

Sunshine Trade League
Spoiler :

The Sunshine Trade League has worked on developing its position in the post-Sunshine Kingdom wasteland, establishing a new relationship with Jacksonia. The first stage of this was turning over the settlement of Edge to the Jacksonians, along with the seized Sunshine Kingdom railroad assets. The Jacksonians in return have resumed the regular train transportation between Saint Augustine and Nasacity. The railroad has been expanded up to Fort Jacksonville, assisting in the hauling of supplies and materials between Saint Augustine and the Jacksonville ruins. Salvaging in Jacksonville has been similarly assisted with a new contract with the Green Bear Corps, hiring them to protect the operations in the ruins. The contract has been successful so far, helping the faction return ample amounts of scrap to the coffers. It is hoped that this marks a peaceful turning point for the League at last.

Trade Lord’s Challenge: Our new relationship with Jacksonia offers new opportunities. Some of the old slave traders have made a petition to the Trade Lord, calling for the restoration of the free slave trade within the League. This could easily open up new markets and opportunities for our people and merchants. On the other hand, we are concerned about the ethics of the slave trade, new relationship with Jacksonia or not. Should we reopen our markets to slave trading?

Tennessee Valley Authority

The Tennessee Valley Authority has continued to struggle to gather materials as an impending food and water shortage begins to emerge. So far no one is starving, but there is plenty of concern that this will only be a short-lived situation. Transmississipian Confederation
Spoiler :

The Transmissippian Confederation has continued the past couple of years’ pattern in launching two major expeditions to scout surrounding areas in force. The Lone Wolves’ Host focused more upon territories closer to the Mississippi River while the Stray Dogs focused on areas further east. The Lone Wolves had a somewhat easier time of it than the Stray Dogs, finding a large settlement existing as a passage point for people from the west bank of the Mississippi. The town of Winterville is very friendly but ferociously independent, denying access to the town for anyone armed. The rest of the journey was more violent, and a number of raider bands were cleared out by the Lone Wolves’ efforts. Upon their return, the people of Winterville will somewhat more accepting following the victories over local raider clans.

The Stray Dogs on the other hand had a bit more trouble with those they encountered. They found themselves between two large and warring raider clans at Litton and Longshot. The resultant fight was chaotic and bloody, leading to hundreds of deaths. The area was cleared, but at an expensive cost for the expedition. Shortly after they came across a town calling itself New Sparta. The town itself seems to be fairly new, as are the farms around it. The community was cautious and did not allow the scouts to approach, and refused to disclose much of their history. The expedition passed on, but marked the spot for future emissaries. The rest of the journey was surprisingly uneventful before the Stray Dogs turned around and headed home.

Pack Leader’s Challenge: For a few days this year the Mississippi River turned blood red. Our priests claim it is a sign of the gods threatening our people if we do not lead more moral lives and expel other faiths. Others claim it was likely just a manmade or natural occurrence. Our people look for answers to this phenomena, how do we appease them?

Universal Brotherhood
The Universal Brotherhood has its roots in the Baha’i religious community that resided in Columbia before the war. In the months following the Great War, the Baha’i community flitted between several different locations in Columbia, before finally settling down in the South Carolina State Fairgrounds. It was here that they established the settlement of Unity, which has served as a place of refuge for the survivors in the area. Many of these survivors eventually chose to settle permanently in Unity, creating a diverse group comprised of a variety of peoples, including several ghouls. Despite the influences of the Baha’i faithful that make up the core of its membership, the Brotherhood is not a religious organization. As part of its charter, the Brotherhood has taken a stance of secularism and non-partisanship. Their motives has always centered on humanitarianism: bringing aid, education, and peace to the people of the wastes.

Director’s Challenge: The wastes have a large number of people looking for a new home and family away from the hazards of the world. They would likely seek to join us if we gave them a chance. How do we treat potential new immigrants and should we allow them?

War Boys
The War Boys are from a territory far away, but were pushed into the Sunshine Wasteland as a result of ongoing BoS moves against nomadic groups. To the War Boys, automotives and other engined vehicles are the ultimate in their pursuit of wealth and faith. The War Boy afterlife is called Route 66, and it is said that your bravery in battle is what nets you the Sweetest Ride. In their flight from the BoS, they were capable of taking several motorcycles. The primary deity of the War Boys is Krislehs, for He brought the Engine and the Power Cell to the wasteland. It should come as no surprise that a War Boy camp looks more like a flea market for automotive paraphernalia, from indicators showing the price of fuel to ripped off car headlights. The Swing King demands absolute loyalty in his men, and often, the well-being of the group goes above the well-being of the individual. Drug addicts are commonly found on the front ranks of the War Boy parties, leading the charge with reckless abandon on "chariots" - fierce contraptions of rickety engines powered by Krislehs knows what, and decked out with scythes and anything necessary to make short worth of both the occupant and his enemies. Sadly, most of these old vehicles had to be abandoned in the treacherous crossing of the Mississippi River, and they have vowed to replace them and once more rule the roads again.

OOC

@<nuke>: Going to need better than “on our periphery” for food scouting and surveying.

@Monoetius: To take over a military base, you need to still have the materials to build an outpost there. Simply taking over just does not work, unless there is already proper settlement there.

I received multiple questions and requests about specialized ammunition like those seen in Fallout: New Vegas and the recent E3 demonstration of Fallout 4. These sorts of specialized ammo are typically things like EMP rounds, hollowpoint, or junk rounds. For the time being, there is no mechanic for these styles of ammunition to be reflected in the stats or gameplay. Upon careful consideration here is the official standing on “special” ammunition: Because of the relative lack of advancement in the South as compared with California, I am assuming that such unique types of munitions are rare or not present in the game area. As we do not see any of these sorts of weapons or devices in Fallout 3, I feel confident in staying this sticks somewhat with canon. When Fallout 4 is released, or we reach Update 50 (and the subsequent new thread), we may revisit the matter. Along these lines, armor besides power armor will not be represented in stats or as a game mechanic.

@theDright: 50 caps is not really enough to launch a private enterprise of any kind I’d say.

@GreekAnalyzer: I just realized that you did not receive the appropriate military skill bonus for being a pre-war military faction. This was corrected in addition to the bump you received from action this turn.

@Decamper: The food and water surveys were done last turn for the Plum Branch route. Also the food you recovered this turn from that bunker will not spoil.

Paradise Kingdom
The Paradise Kingdom emerged after the destruction of Nassau by Chinese nuclear weapons, the only island in the Bahamas to receive the dubious distinction of being targeted by communist atomic attacks. The Paradise Kingdom emerged from a group of wealthy tourists lording over a significantly larger number of locals who had been working in the hotels. The tourists formed the first aristocracy and thanks to a weapons smuggler, managed to secure their position against initial revolts. In the centuries to come, they propagated a new faith from a cult of the lower classes, in which they argued that there was nothing beyond the oceans, and the world of the Paradise Kingdom was the entire world. In time, eventually the lower classes led another rebellion, and war tore the island apart once again, as the two sides fought for supremacy. A small group of the lower class fled to a group of caves to establish a new base from which to continue their rebellion. The entire situation was stalemated until the Sunshine Kingdom landed an expeditionary force on the western edge of the island. Suited in power armor and speaking unfamiliar terms and languages, it truly did seem as though demons had arrived from beyond the horizon. The leaders of the Paradise Kingdom were able to rally their population in fear of the demons beyond the sea and wiped out what remained of the rebellion, and then extinguished the last forces of the Sunshine Kingdom. The boost in sophisticated weapons brought about a new renaissance in learning and ideas. Religion was reformed, and they began to explore the islands around them, leading to naval conflicts with the Commune of Freeport and other factions in the Bahamas. Pierre Gladstone is a member of one of the most prestigious families in theParadise Kingdom. Through aggressive trade practices, backed by the wealth of his slave plantations, Gladstone was elected king of the Paradise Kingdom by the Council of Fifteen, a council consisting of the heads of the fifteen wealthiest, oldest, and/or most prestigious families in the kingdom.

The Paradise Kingdom are a barbaric people. Pierre Glasstone, elected king, is a particularly charismatic leader.

(I'm thinking post-apocalyptic pirates)
