It depends. You can go to the movies with just one person or by yourself, but bowling isn't that fun with just one other person (and not very fun at all by yourself); you need at least two or more friends.
Although, I've got a hunch that it is a univeral bowling alley rule that all rental shoes must be worn at least 100,000 times before receiving any kind of odor treatment.
And I would venture that beer is a staple of bowlers the world over.
Dates: I liek bowlign with mutual friends, helpes take off alot of the edge around a new girl, when surrounded by people we both know, until i get to know her better
Later relationships, and bumming around with friends: movies; I dotn see all that many movies, but those I do i ususally have at least one friend in tow with me, i dotn go to them with dates, as I ususalyl find the situation akward if its someone I dont know well.
Having worked in both a bowling center and a movie theater, it's a tough choice. But I'd probably go with bowling. Although movies are fun too. But bowling alley fries are the best. But fresh popcorn rocks too.
If I'm lucky, I'll go bowling and see a movie on one of those TV screens they have.... or perhaps a movie about bowling....
