This was a mostly quiet set of turns. When there was no fighting I concentrated on railing, irrigating and maximizing city growth to let us hire more geeks for faster science.

Egypt Invasion Force

Protected by some Frigates are our 4 Transports loaded with 4 Armies and 4 Infantry. They can land next turn at Haarlem. With four Armies the city should fall easily. The Infantry are to garrison the island and keep others from settling there. After Haarlem and healing, these guys can sail eastward to El-Amarna. The trip will be easy; the distance is only five tiles.

We sank a lot of Egyptian ships during these turns. Their navy is weak to non-existent.

Thougn not pictured, we also have an Army and Infantry sailing towards Heiraconpolis, their most isolated city. It is over 40 tiles to travel for the Frigate and Transport if they move at the Frigates's Magellan's Voyage enhanced speed of 6. Transports move faster than Frigates, but then it is unprotected. On the island, we've seen War Chariots occasionally patrolling the island, but they end their turn in the city. We have a Caravel and Frigate on station at Heiraconpolis. They spend their turns circling clockwise around the borders. Sort of pointless and useless, but it gives them something to do.

Random Stuff
We now control Smith's Trading Company and Magellan's Voyage, courtesy of Egypt and the Aztecs.

The Aztecs are almost gone. They have two ships, a Caravel and Galleon. The Caravel is empty. The Galleon is heading to where Egypt once was, so once they land we can end the Aztecs once and for all.

Egypt has only the three island cites, if that wasn't clear earlier.

Carthage is on the move, looking for new places to build. They have 5 settlers pairs on the prowl. Three are by Corihuayrachina, the other two just crossed the border into open land NE of New Karatepe. They have also founded a city to the north of New Karhuyuk. It is on the mainland, not an island, so it is very reachable.

We are still at peace with Carthage. The treaty ends in 4 turns.

We have 43 tiles before we win by Domination. The next culture expansion that will expand our borders is from Kyoto in 15 turns, where we will pick up a coastal tile or two. Besides that, we don't have anything to worry about as long as we don't keep any cities we capture past the end of the turn. We may need to keep Hadrumetum of Carthage if we cannot land on Heiraconpolis with our Army.

I managed to sneak in a few cities when I saw a spot that would not expand our borders.

Most of our territory is railed, though the newly conquered lands still need some work. We acquired a lot of marsh and jungle from the Incas and Egypt. All of the jungle tiles inside our border are either roaded or will be roaded next turn. We have 8 jungles left; three have workers/slaves in place to make a road next turn. We have four stacks of jungle-whackers, 1 of workers and 3 of slaves. Which means we can get rid of the jungles in two turns. The worker stack is 1NW of New Kanesh, the slave stacks are 1NE of Miss Placed, and 1NW and 2NW of Smyrna.

We are no so lucky with marshes. We still have four of them. On one of them we have a stack of 19 slaves; 16 to drain the marsh and then three to build a road on the new terrain. We have another stack of 19 that is ready to move onto a marsh tile next turn. The four tiles can be gone in four turns.

Even while we work on the marshes and jungles, we have plenty of workers and slaves to rail and irrigate what is inside our borders.

We have not improved anything at Heliopolis or Pi-Ramesses. We have rails to both cities, but little else. Heliopolis had a flip risk but now it is down to size 1 and has an Army in it to prevent flipping back to Egypt. At Pi-Ramesses we were letting it produce slaves for us, but given our current cash flow and quantity of slaves, new ones from our larger captured cities are not needed as much.

We are at 4 turn research and can maintain that easily for Amphibous Warfare and, if desired, Motorized Transportation.

There are some 10 slave stacks in play. These were used to rail and irrigate already roaded tiles.

Some units are still moveable, but for the most part this turn is over.

We still have no embassy with Carthage.

Carthage has Horses and Iron but no Saltpeter. Egypt has one source of Saltpeter, but Carthage isn't getting it. We might face Knights, but not Cavalry.

Carthage has nice terrain, a lot like Italy. Nice for us, since we can use our armies to block any counterattacks. Once we are south of Leptis Magna, the country is an average of 5 tiles wide.

Around the capital are our spare units. We do not have a continental rally point.

Now, that is not very clear. I just read it and it confused me!

Well, that is what happens when I write stuff after midnight! :D

Better:
We have some slaves stacks with 10 slaves in the stack; two stacks for sure and maybe three. I used these Stacks-of-10 to rail (6 slaves) and irrigate (4 slaves) any flat land (grass, plain, desert) that only had a road.

Change Pi-Ramesses to Destroyer; rush the build.

Give Carthage the boot order. He complies.

Turn 1:

DD sinks Aztec Galleon. They're destroyed.

Move a lot of troops. I kind of mess up the worker stacks, but that doesn't seem like a big deal. We're close to victory.

Canton, Nanking, and New Kanesh are cranky. We adjust specialists to compensate.

Rush some Transports in Old Zulu-land, plus a couple of DDs for escorts.

Why do we have so many Settlers building? We already have more than we need for combat-Settler purposes.
Most were switched over from temples to settlers that had too many sheilds invested to switch to from temples to workers, say about 15 sheilds or so. I'm a bit cheap and did not want to waste the excess sheilds. A settler wasn't the best option but if we needed to rush something we had some shields to reduce that cost.

I figured we would still need some settlers, even if we didn't have an immediate use for them.

But 12 settlers in production for 113 cities? That's overkill. Another thing I missed in my handoff notes. I'm going to blame the late hour when I wrote those notes. :D (That's my story and I'm sticking to it.)
Thanks for letting me join at the last minute, guys! :salute: :king:
Glad you could join!

@CB: Ah, that makes sense re: temples => settlers. I just wish I'd been able to use more of them!

Also, thanks for setting me up with such a great position for the start of my set :)

Good work Elephantium and everybody!

Unfortunately, I didn't have as much time for this as I'd hoped. :(

I must say, we have come a long way from when we did an ICS in the shadow of Scandinavia and America. But it was well executed, from start to finish.

It was striking to watch the replay and see you getting hemmed in by the AI *really* fast -- and then after a few early wars, really turning it around. By time Scandinavia was finished off, the win was pretty much inevitable.
