Brave New World's 9 new Civs

Venice isn't just a hardcore trade civ, they did do plenty of other things. Heck, currently Venice isn't even a mercantile CS, it's maritime! As others have said there are plenty of things a potential Venice civ could have - canals, culture and fancy masquerades, Marco Polo exploration, political intrigue, etc.

The Renaissance was last expansion.
The naval trade power of the expansion is Portugal and another new civ has another trade-related UA.
Italy is present in the scenario.
Both New France and Assyria have UAs dealing with great works.

Most of the other points are made more out of fandom than fit for this particular expansion it seems to me. If it's in, I'm happy for those of you who want it, but it's a poor choice in my opinion. If it's not, even better.

Venice could be awesome! You could combine trade routes with artifact stealing, or more generally, combine the two major themes of the expansion together: Trade/Tourism and Culture!

Indonesia/Majapahit would also rule out the Franks and the HRE FWIW.

Venice is first foremost the most successful thalassocracy of the Italian city-states, hence why it is Maritime.

Venice's new UA: The Fourth Crusade: Steal artifacts from wealthy civ of your choice and make their civ collapse soon after.

Venice led by Enrico Dandolo would be pretty awesome. I did prefer Italy, though.

Fourth Crusade would be a great name for a UA.

I'd give them additional units from Militaristic city-states though and a culture bonus for capturing capitals.

I loved how they stole the remains of St Mark though from Alexandria. The merchants hid it under pork so the Muslims refused to go near it!

To sum things up:

We know for a fact that one of the civs will be Morocco, and Asian civ, and a European civ. If Majapahit or Indonesia is in + Morocco, then Italy's chances are outnumbered except for Venice. If it's Srivijaya + Morocco, then Italy's chances have been resurrected.

You already posted this, we know that the Inuit and Anasazi can't be in because of the alphabetical order of the civs already established
1. When did I post this?
2. What is this alphabetical list everyone keeps talking about. (I haven't checked the news in a while so I wouldn't know.)

I'm thinking Camel Cavalry for Morocco. They made the camels lay down to fire rifles, swivel guns, and even gatling guns mounted to the saddle.

Zamburaks are cool, but I bet that isn't the UU ;).

I see connections to Egypt, Arabia, and even India, but I don't see Moroccan connections. Can anyone show me examples of their use there?

ETA:
. . . is still just a hypothesis. Not a confirmed fact.

It fits the facts as they exist now (European civ, resource, how they replaced CS in the past). Sure we can assume it's a Black Swan, but that's no better than saying the remaining civs will by Kyrgyzstan and Liechtenstein.

Does anyone know what the popular choice for European civs pre-BNW were? Italy has probably been crushed, along with the Normans, Franks and HRE. Venice seems very probable now. What other European civs could it be?

BTW, we could expect Coffee/Batik/etc for Indonesia, and Glass for Venice, anything that can be linked with Morocco?

In no particular order:

Hungary, Venice, Norway (part of Denmark), Finland (part of Sweden), Carolingian, Poland, Portugal

Dates for Morocco? Olives?

I believe Hungary fared out fine in the polls, but they're out just like all the other famous European civs. Even using the name Magyars wouldn't work.
The only strong contenders I can think of now are Venice and Ukraine(representing the Kievan Rus'). Personally I'm rooting for the near impossible Sicilian Normans civ.

Methinks if they wanted to add the Kievan Rus', they'd call it Kievan Rus'. The connotations of "Ukraine" are not the same.
