Brave New World's 9 new Civs

Alright, so if the Sioux were purple previously (I never played anything before CIV, so I hadn't realised), then it's not quite a surprise as I took it. The colours are a bit unappealing still - so close to Rome... Then again, Venice's colours... next to Poland and Morocco and England and Persia and Austria.

Also think about it, they spawned near Morocco. If the Pueblo were in, they would have a desert/mountain start bias probably. Meaning with limited desert its a significant probability they would have spawned near each other

I would like to point out something about "the remaining 2 civs have to be between P and Z" theory. AFAIK this wasn't mentioned yet.
We all know the Pueblo was among the 9 planned civs. Who says the order of the achievements wasn't made back then?

IMO it's very plausible that the civ replacing the Pueblo stayed on the 7th spot in the achievements even after the civ-change. They simply didn't rearrange the list.
This of couse means, that either of the last two civs can start with any letter of the alphabet!!

I posted about that possibility several times and think it's very plausible. I also suggested that the one thing that won't be a surprise is if there's a big surprise!

As for purple, I wouldn't waste too much time sorting through flags. Flags are a relatively modern convention (last several hundred years). Purple has always been associated with (European) royalty; "purpur" has been used extensively throughout the history of heraldry. If there's a new purple civ, it likely fingers a European civ from pre-19th century. Apart from that, it could be anybody.

Or it might be the Sioux.

Again why? The Pueblo still fit after Portugal and Poland alphabetically

Umm... and?
I'm not yure what do you want to say with this.
I said instead of the Pueblo, which was in one of the remaining 2 spots, they have put in any other civ when the have to drop the Pueblo
If they didn't rearrange the achievement list after the change, the last civ can start with any letter

Already ruled out both alphabetically and by city states, sadly.

None of the civs are ruled out alphabetically :mischief:

I sincerely doubt they would make achievement lists before the civ selection was finalized.

My apologies then, I seem to have misunderstood your earlier post

Get off this dumb derail. Tons of other civs in the game have committed atrocities, if not all of them, and there are actual intelligent reasons why Yugoslavia won't be in that you can provide and be done with it.

Give it up, that's a silly attempt and you know it. Whilst they were working on the Pueblo there is nothing to suggest it was so late in the development of the expansion that it would have made it to the achievement list. In any case, it still seems likely that it'll be a European (which is almost certainly Venice) and a Native North American (and the Sioux make sense), so even if it's not alphabetically locked, it doesn't really help anything.

I have serious objections against a civilization that doesn't even share a national identity - it seems like the exactly opposite of what I think should be the criteria for inclusion in the game (Yugoslavia was a country, not a civ).

That's a good reason not to have a Yugoslav civ. The fact that they committed terrible atrocities during their civil war just makes them like everybody else, only a little more recent.

And, okay, this probably isn't the time or place for it, but they share more of a national identity than you think. Since the war, there's been a frankly laughable attempt by the ex-Yugoslavs, particularly by Croats and Serbs, to distinguish themselves from one another—they pretend to speak six different languages now, most of which (certainly "Serbian," "Croatian," and "Bosnian") are closer to one another than British and American English are. They'll probably never be unified again, it's true, especially with so many Croats wrapping themselves (embarrassingly) in their glorious Nazi past, but Yugoslavia wasn't a complete aberration; it wasn't as doomed to fail as everybody seems to believe.

I don't think the Sioux are going to be anything but something brownish.

Well the Phoenicians are certainly linked with purple . . .

:mischief:

Not that tone of purple. Tyrian purple is very different.

Exactly. Purple is associated with nobility and wealth, so it's a color they would choose for some wealthy nation that has no modern symbols.

Yeah, I don't think it's very likely, but still a possibility
Also, IMO the civ list was finalized by Firaxis. They said they had tons of artwork already ready for the Pueblo.
I don't think they would de that much work on a not-yet finalized civ

Could be Venice seeing as all of the cities are coastal.

Belgrade is a city state, we know that they aren't in already. Yugoslavia is an insignificant blip in history that was a historical artefact caused by the Paris Peace conference that had so many issues that it dissolved spectacularly causing one of the most horrifying civil wars in Modern European History with war crimes committed too close to the production of this game for it to be even a reasonable idea to include them. There are plenty of good Slavic options, but Yugoslavia is not one of them.

I don't think it's a likely scenario, but it's still a possibility

I found the new civ!!! Milka civilization confirmed!!

Please note that I'm not endorsing this, but the colors make me thing Minoans.

Are we sure the purple is not just Indonesia using a reverse color scheme (their icon being the main color and their background being the scondary, isn't there another civ that does this?)

Also, what's the Indonesian capital (kinda bummed they didn't call them the Majapahit, but also bummed the Zulu are called the Zulus, haha)
