Brave New World's 9 new Civs

It very well could be, but when it seem pretty much certain that the European one is Venice, there is no point getting everyone's hopes up with a out there highly unlikely idea.

I was sure of that till I saw the purple civ. Generally, these Bold-color-plus-white colorations are given to European countries, while Native Americans get brownish colors. But Venice doesn't seem like a purple-and-white civ (if only the cities were yellow, then it would be a possibility, with the golden winged lion as a symbol), so I'm thinking of some other European civilization, maybe Sicilian-Normans, maybe something related to crusades, maybe something ancient.

Seems like all 4 of your advocated civs are included in BNW
Pleeeeease advocate Hungary next time :king:

To be fair, I also dismissed Brazil as a choice (I believe my exact words were that they would make an excellent choice for Civ7 or Civ8) and even recommended that Portugal not be included this time through on the grounds that it wasn't unique enough, so I don't have a flawless record.

2. A minimal city list that couldn't even have Riga

This alone is a good argument. Riga would almost certainly be a Soviet city. Otherwise, it would just be the Russian city list and we have Russia for that.

...or maybe they're using the Sioux's colours from Civ II...

Of course it's POSSIBLE. However, why cling onto that very unlikely possibility of the ninth civ being sorted alphabetically as the Pueblo? You'll just be heavily disappointed if that tiny off chance doesn't come true, which is the most likely outcome.

Nobody's clinging. You just outright rejected a very plausible scenario by declaring authoritatively that achievements are the last thing to get done, etc. You can't know that.

Still. I agree with you! :crazyeye:

Mongolia was purple in Civ 2 as well. As well as some other civ that normally didn't use purple

There were only 7 colors in Civ 2 for all of the civs and many civs didn't make sense with their color it seems

Possible, but not only the Sioux have no relation whatsoever with the color purple, it's also a symbol for wealth and royalty, which don't make sense with the Sioux. And the colors for the first Civ games were just chosen at random (Rome was white, Greece was pink).

This is a possible symbol for them, but probably they wouldn't keep the red, and change it to something brownish.

...and? If they were trying to figure out colours for them, and referred back to the last time they were in, that is what they would get. It's been done before, even if it was in Civ II were multiple Civs used the same colours.

Anyone notice that we're getting a lot of star symbols this time through?

Frankly the color that purple best fits is the Iroquois. Followed by the Southwestern US (A particularly sacred color to the Navajo and Pueblo that was a source of major trade which they sent Jade to Mesoamerica for) and then the Southeast

Oh I know what it is. It's Georgia. That's where The Color Purple takes place, rite? :mischief:

I did notice that. I haven't had time to consider whether it's because it's such a common symbol, it works well in round icons, or some other reason.

The purple could be Venice:

See the purple globe thingy? Lots of people are saying Ragusa rules out Venice, but that's not the case necesarily since Ragusa was never directly under Venice's control. At a few points of its history it was sort of like a vassal to Venice, but more often it was actually a rival to Venice. Just like how Austria doesn't have Hungarian cities, England doesn't have southern French cities, and the Ottomans don't have Greek cities, I could see a Venetian civ without Ragusa. I think on another thread someone compiled a list of Venetian cities without needing Ragusa, showing that contrary to what some think it is possible to build a healthy city-list for them.

We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope. - MLK Jr. :goodjob:

Did they ever explicitly say why they choose colors for civs? It could have no relation to the color purple. Iroquois would have been purple if they base it off of real life examples.

Are we? You mean overall in the entire game, or do you mean in this expansion?

This expansion.

I'm honestly surprised that they aren't purple and white. Odds that they changed the Iroquois colors are slim, though, given that they haven't switched Austria and Poland.
