Brave New World's 9 new Civs

First off, sorry for my somewhat broken english, it's not my native language and i usually never write in english.

This is a list of the civs i would like to see in BNW. The first three is of course already confirmed.

Poland
Assyria
Brazil

These are the ones i would like to see:

Indonesia/Majapahit - Fits the trade part perfectly. Indonesia i a huge country (Population) and has it's own unique culture.

Khazars - Also fits the trade part. I would love to see a nomadic horse civ without a war focus.

Kongo - Fits the scramble for Africa scenario. I would really want to see more africans civs in this game.

Morroco/Berbers - This one is perhaps my favourite. A big civ with it's own exciting culture. I also would like to see more desert civs.

Sioux - I really hope they add another native american civ. I always play civilization with a "what if.." mindset. It's really interesting to play as a native american civ to see "what if they never got conquered."

Aboriginal people -My pick for a darkhorse civ. I don't know if it is possible to fit into a game with civilization, but i find the Aboriginal people fascinating, they're have a really unique culture and would really add some different flavour to the game.

What i don't want to see is too many new European civs, there are already more than enough of them. Adding Poland and perhaps another one (Hungary, Portugal etc) would be okay though.

Speculation: about Indonesia/Javanese/Majapahit civ, I personally think Firaxis may already decided to included it in BNW but didn't display it on PAX.

Perhaps because the leader (whoever she/he is) still not finished, may be due to difficulty in finding linguist and speaker for Old Javanese/Bahasa Indonesia.

They may also already decided on other Civs and having the same problem in finding linguist to write the leaders' dialogues and also the voice actors. People who speak Polish and Brazilian Portuguese are easy to find, which is cannot be said to speakers of , say, Fon, Kipchak or Bakongo.

I had a dream where Canada was added with Menzies as leader and the Mountie as a UU, but I guess good thing it was a dream. (No offense to any Canadians)

I guess the brazilian unit maybe the bandeirante, an upgraded version of the musqueter, with movement bonus in rought terrain. The assirian UU maybe their variant of the catapult, with pehamps an increased bonus against walls. =)

I heard the braziliam UA would be to receive more tourists during Golden Ages. It sounds like crap at a first glance, but I don`t know how tourism and cultural business would work in BNW.

The assyrian ability to steal technologies during invasion of foreing cities sounds overwhelming. If so, thats the most powerfull UA of the entire CIV V series, especially if you start the game next to another science focused civ.

One thing that I'd love to see fixed is the discovery era importance. If all the continents have civs developing at the same rate, we won`t see ever an imperialistic world. When you are able to navigate throw oceans, all the continents are entirely occupied by civs as developed as yours, so units from the discovery era sounds useless for its purposes. Don`t you think so?

You were probably just dreaming about a Canada/Australia combination civ: the Anglocolonial Commonwealth. Menzies as leader, Mountie UU, boomerang tosser UU.

The Brazilian UU is already known, it's the Pracinha.

I`ve seen that later. Thanks. They probably were inspired by a mod from the Civ IV that added Brazil as a playable civ.

I was pretty shocked that they gave Brazil a focus on "great creators".

Brazil kinda deserved this bonus . Brazilian Carnivals created opportunities for many artists, mainly singers,to boost their careers . Also, the double bonus for Tourism wouldn't be that good,at first glance, but because of the new mechanic of cultural pressure,it fitted the history of Brazil quite well, considering that the beginning and the end of the Dictatorship in Brazil(1964-1895),directly influenced nearby countries to also begin/end their own dictatorships:

we must remember that not all playing Civ V come on these forums or are experts in history, and that this game is, above all, a product to sell. So we'll probably have a few more exotic civilizations, like the Khazars or Kievan Rus', especially if they occupy the place of other more famous as Portugal and Zulu.

I've got no issues with them being a center of tourism. Of course, in this case the tourism is more about partying hard and hitting the beach, not heading off to the opera house. And I think even that's being slightly generous since, as many have pointed out, Brazil isn't close to the top ten tourist destinations. It's really more of luxury vacation spot than some cultural mecca millions flock to.

But I'll give them tourism at any rate. Is there evidence that Brazil has more than its share of world famous virtuosos?

i suspect ther response here is that without the great works, the tourism bonus wouldn't amount to much. In which case, I think something's missing from tourism if it doesn't take anything other art into consideration. Why can't you overwhelm someone with culture that's not of the elitist variety, like blockbuster movies or, in this case, spectacular festivals?

The whole design of this civ is very "gamist". Brazil doesn't have a decade-long carnival once every century or three. We even have a unique unit that, quite nonsensically, brings the empire closer to a golden age through kiling enemy units.

Don't misunderstand. I'm fine with gamist designs, as my "Tower of Skulls" design for Timurid below indicates. I just feel the need to point out that it is such, because there's been an uphill battle to get folks to consider Italy as a possibility, and most of the arguments against them are about notions of verisimilitude. if people can accept this build for Brazil, then they accept a lack of verisimilitude.

But that's just it. They decided Brazil would use the tourism mechanic so they get artists to assist that mechanic. You can argue tourism for Brazil, the rest doesn't matter as it only serves to help how that mechanic functions in the game.

It's really a nonsensical complaint. It's like pointing out that America has an expansion mechanic, which does fit, but then complaining about the +1 Sight by saying American's don't have better eye sight than other nationalities so why'd they get this.

Note that I quite explicitly stated in the previous post that I don't hold Brazil's gamist design and thin verisimilitude against it.

Mohawks are already also in, they were one of the groups in the Iroquois confederation.

There are three categories of civs to be added:

1. Returning Civs:

The Zulu - Has a pretty decent chance as a fan favorite and with the Africa scenario
The Sioux - May replace the Pueblo
The Vikings - Used as Denmark
The Hittites - Unlikely due to Assyria
Portugal - Might as well be confirmed, with Brazil and all
Sumer - Not in. Ur is a CS
Holy Rome - I had no problem, but I hear it was unpopular
The Khmer - Would like to see them, but I fear they are negated by Siam
Mali - Highly Unlikely with overlap with Songhai
Native America - This was extremely unpopular, but the attempt at the Pueblo makes this unlikely

2. Likely Civs

Indonesia - Trade
Kongo - African Scenario
The Cherokee - One of the most "civilized" of the native tribes, Tomahawk Unit
The Apache - Pueblo replacement
The Inuit - highly requested
Vietnam - The Sofia CS Theory, Female Leader

3. Dark Horses

Italy- a good Great Work Civ but not wanted until recently
Mexico - Too Modern
Canada -Same as Mexico
Belgium -Africa Scenario
Israel - Self Explanitory

There are more, but this is a basic list.

Using this, the 9 new Civs are most likely to be:

Poland
Assyria
Brazil

Portugal
The Zulu
Kongo
The Cherokee
The Sioux/The Apache
Vietnam
