I'm hoping that there is something like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacred_City_of_Caral
This would be PERFECT for the 'culture' war theme.

This was the cradle of Pre-Columbian So-American civilizations and ruled through sheer culture (as far as we know).

Also - Khazars or Rus.

There is so little known about Norte Chico to reasonably ever guess that. And besides some archaeologists think Tiwanaku was the first site in the Americas that became a city and had people living on it up to 18,000 years ago.

So what are the odds we will have more Sweden situations? Where they will tease us with part of a picture/a little info and then slowly release the civ's name over time

What the game REALLY needs is one custom civ. From the advanced setup menu, you name your civ and choose your colors. Name your leader and choose from a small selection of leader images, or an existing image. And name your unique units or buildings (chosen from the existing ones) and finally choose a trait and personality.
This way, everyone gets the civ they ere hoping for!

Aka completely unbalancing the game. But hey it was a bad idea in Civ 4 and still made it in. I guess you still have that hope

I'm confused as to why people are discounting Mexico's possible inclusion by lumping them with the Aztecs. They don't share city names and the Aztecs currently don't have any Uniques that can be associated with post-colonization Mexico. It is a little odd that territorial overlap would be the main reason to dismiss them considering the significant overlap in other regions from other civs.

That'd be fun :)
Always loved that about MOO, SMAC, etc.

New Zealand:

-First Contry in the World when Women vote (1893)
- Fought in WWII
-Huge tourism
- rank num 1 in wellfare

Mississipians = gave a name of a river. well done.

Everyone fought in WW2, they were a minor contribution.
Many countries have tourism, how is that contributing?
Women voting, yeah that's cool.

Anything of real significance here? no. And please read the wikipedia article on Mississippian culture. More than just a river name. You didn't address a single one of the things I said about Mississippian civ. New Zealand and pretty much every country you listed as a "civ" is laughable and barely has a unique culture (or already overlaps with some other civ)

That would probably be a real crowd-pleaser in The U.S., like Israel most certainly would be.

Now 'Scramble for Africa' as an announced scenario, I believe there will be some African Civs, like the Zulu and maybe Congo.
The euro civs are too much, of course they do have history, but after hearing Poland is in the game... They tuk err jewbs now urr game (watch southpark to get the joke) ... However I do believe Portugal also comes with it.
I also hope on Khmer, Sioux or Apache.
Brazil would be fine, but with Portugal included

Yeah, it's hard to scramble for africa without Portugal, a truly MAJOR player there.

Its funny, just the american natives were huge in so many diferent ways. Perphaps thats why US is the only contry in Civilization franchise when already apears what? 6, 7 native americans?

"New Zealand and pretty much every country you listed as a "civ" is laughable and barely has a unique culture (or already overlaps with some other civ)"

This is so ofensive. NO culture? Im wondering why theres so many US flags burning around the world.

9 new civs and still a hard-cap on the number that can be present on a map...oh the decisions that will have to be made for an Earth map.

oh heck why not share my speculation? without explaining my choices

1. poland
2. assyria
3. indonesia
4. portugal
5. brazil
6. sioux
7. khmer
8. bantu
9. italy

How do you get 6 or 7? Try 2. The only native civs in the geographical area of the US that have been in the main Civilization games are the Sioux and Iroquois.

Civ IV had an imaginary Native American Empire, but that was mostly just the Sioux anyway seeing as their leader and UU were Sioux.

At most you can also make a case for Hawai'i under Civ V's Polynesian Empire, but that's hardly meant to exclusively portray the US.

You can also hardly count the civs of Civ IV Colonization as 1) that wasn't a real Civ game, 2) the whole scenario was focused on the area, and 3) it also featured non US natives such as the Tupi.

Regardless of my opinions on whether or not Mexico should be a civ, whether or not it will be a civ is a totally different question. I think the devs are unlikely to include civilizations that modern and probably feel it is being "covered" by the Aztecs.

Mate, I'm from NZ. I don't find it offensive, and indeed the majority of our culture as it is at the moment overlaps between the US, Australia and England. Think 'less guns, more freedom'

Poland and Portugal are enough for the European civs. Just try playing a large TSL Europe Map with all European civs including Carthage, Egypt, and the Ottomans. It'll be cramped. As for Africa, I'm 75% sure Zulu or Kongo are gonna be in. I doubt Mali would make it in cause they share like almost all the same cities with Songhai.

I didn't say no culture , I said their culture is barely unique. It is very much influenced by the UK-US. While New Zealand is a great country and with great people, like the guy from New Zealand said, they are not unique.

Ok ok my bad, but i still wanna see the game more geografcily representative. They pull sweden, why not a caribean nation? Or from Oceania?
