Brazil discussion thread

I think you are right, Matthew. Good thinking.
So, the reported +1 :c5gold: probably adds on top of the usual trading post gold.

woodcamps really sounded like added production to me, but its not.

however, if Brazil gets them in the start of game (unless we find out when theyre available) then it makes this civ pretty nice like the Iroquois. however, long term and economic, must keep your guard and survive till the Carnivals.

He also said he likes to think of the UU as mini "indiana joneses" going around collecting artefacts. Maybe the only military unit capable of collecting the artefacts for museums?

It certainly sounds like Brazil is going 'all in' on the cultural victory. The alternative seems to be to war yourself into a perpetual golden age and use it to build more troops and conquer the world while you dance the Samba.

I really like all features so far. Firafix made the right choice giving Brazil the tools to be a culture powerhouse, because I would never see Brazil as a warmonger or a scientific potency.

I still need to see how tourism and archaeology will work, but I think we have a very competitive civ right now already.

meh, im sure you can conquer with Brazil like any other civ. Especially Brazil with more units from more gold! though, for science, if you can get enough jungles and population. maybe.

Of course you can do everything with all civs, just saying that its nice to see that Brazil is classified as a culture civ. I like it.

Also, in higher difficulties you hardly will pick Huns for a diplo victory, so you will hardly pick Brazil to a conquest victory.

Translated press release from a Taiwanese site.

Pracinha screenshot.

During a carnival, the growth rate for Great Writer, Great Artist and Great Musician are all increased by 50%.
Pracinha replaces Infantry.
The name of the UI should be Brazilwood Camp.

So, is Brazil actually reknowned for generating great works art, music, and literature? I mean, relative to other nations or cultures?

They're well-known for tourism, but more in the context of partying down than attending opera and museums.

We don't know that - the UI could be a logging camp replacement giving +1 to both gold and production.

UI don't replace improvements - they only add to the existing ones. That's why you can make both farms and terrace farms (if you're the Inca) or polders (if you're the Netherlands). And, of course, the moai couldn't replace anything, really! :p So woodcamps shouldn't be any different.

Well, currently you can't build a lumber mill on jungle tiles; the Brazilwood Camps might be a combination of a lumber mill and trading post that can only be built on jungle. You'd still have the ability to build a lumber mill on forests and a trading post.

We still haven't seen a Trading Post tile improvement in any screenshot, so the Brazilwood Camp looks pretty good if the TC has been removed or limited. If not, it might be hard to pick between culture and that sweet, sweet science.

Also, if Brazil picks Sacred Path Pantheon, the Jungles will be making 2 culture per tile with the Brazilwood Camp.

Are you suggesting that the Brazilwood Camp will destroy the jungle? That doesn't seem likely to me.

No, I'm referring to science from Trading Posts with the Rationalism sopol. If Brazil doesn't go piety, they have the tough choice of choosing between the Brazilwood camp on jungles for culture or putting a Trading Post on the jungle for one additional science per jungle tile.

I realize that the jungle produce science regardless of improvement when the city has an university.
