Brazil discussion thread

I wouldn't say there's only one way to play Brazil. The UU pushes Golden Ages. Golden Ages increase production and culture (among other things). Production builds more UUs. Culture gets you warmongery sopols & tenets. Great Persons start more Golden Ages. I think Brazil could flood the world with Pracinhas and coast to a domination victory.

Depending on the amount of Golden Age's points the UU gives and the magnitude of the Great Artist's generation boost by the UA, a perpetual Carnival could be possible!

Ah, the noise!

Edit: How awesome - or overpowered - would be if each city with a Brazilwood Camp yielded a Brazilwood unique luxury resource? Easier Carnivals!

I find it extremely ironic that the "Old" Pedro has a party UA...

I find it ironic that Napoleon's UA refers to the regime that was destroyed right before he came to power.

All this does is illustrate that the UA refers to the civ, not the leader.

Whenever a Carnival starts, Pedro's model changes to him wearing a party hat and you can see people partying outside his window.

Pedro II is a anti-stereotypical Brazilian. Serious, workaholic, old, fat and intellectual. Its perfect to balance the (especially brazilian) public's opinion

I like that now that everyone knows about the UU, everybody's so accepting of its mechanics. No whinging about historical accuracy or realism...Just "I killed a unit! Let's samba!" :)

I just asked about this in the Pracinha's thread... if anyone knows why they got this ability.

Some nations had paratroopers...Brazil had partytroopers. ;)

If more people had known about these guys, perhaps the World Wars wouldn't have been viewed in such a negative light.

Not the only case. William of Orange died in 1584. The Dutch East India Company wasn't founded until 1602.

There are even more:

Bismarck was born ~2000 years after the era his UA is representing.
Elizabeth died long before England had an empire in which the sun never set.
Haile Selassie was like 3 years old during the Battle of Adwa.
The Nobel Prize came into existence long after Gustavus Adolphus died.

The simple fact that the Pracinhas were fighting the war was used as regime propaganda. It was a pretty spectacle, the then President for Like would speak something about 'our children fighting in europe' and then the studio would explode a grenade.Through radio programs, the Estado Novo caused sentiments of nationalism in a country that had deficits of it. And the country needed it, Brazil is the stereotypical XIX century nationalistic dream.

I wish I could reference this, but I just can't remember everything I read.

I wish.

Interesting. But now I remembered Carmen Miranda, nicknamed the "Brazilian Bombshell" (WWII Context) by the Americans, and all the propaganda. Maybe it has something to do with the devs' choice.

I love Unique Tile Improvements! and the snake icon for the Pracinhas! and green is my favorite color! I'm a big fan already!

She was Portuguese.

So are the Brazilwood camps.

But she came to Brazil when she was a 10 months old baby and became a living stereotype of the country and the whole Latin America. The WWII period oversaw an increasing cultural interchange between Brazil and the USA (Carmen Miranda, Disney's Zé Carioca). Albeit far-fetched, that's the only explanation I can find for the Pracinhas' ability. That and the explanation Aliteri gave us about propaganda and national pride.
