i wlready did most of the sound track, i used dune 2000 tracks,
i duplicated some over the eras cause there isnt enough,

ill upload it up for you guys so if theres anything yould like to add or change - your welcomed too.

I can't get the current version of the mod to start. It crashes when initializing uncached XML. It's not a friendly XML message saying what's wrong where, its one of these things in the attached picture. I fixed the CvAltRoot as required for my Vista, doublechecked that's really where the config lives, and placed it in the Python folder but not any of the subfolders.

Guys, whatever works---just do it.
If it is such a hassle to make these maps, and the A.I. cannot understand how to use all-terrain units--just make sandsea units and land units. It's really not a big deal.
Like for example, maybe make hover units to be like ships--since they can just hover over the deep desert. And make carryalls like ships too.
I think everyone would like all terrain units-but if the A.I. and maps screw up-what can we do?
All-terrain would be fun--but why must we struggle so much for it???

Anyway, I would like a new version of the game today. I want to play a game to test it and to have some fun.
 
Well I have been busy with RevDCM 2.0 issues.

Keldath there will probably be a slight change in the fonts in the future with RevDCM.

If you guys want I can help with the soundtrack for the main menu if you tell me what track you are wanting. If you get the chance if you tell me what you want for art on the main menu I can do some things if wanted. I was thinking the other day it might be good to use the Lynch movie prologue audio for the opening menu. Tell me if that sounds like a bad idea.

But with that I wanted to ask a bigger question. Would you not just want to change the default audio and not add more? I would think you guys want different background music in game.

Well anyway maybe bad ideas.

well its very good to know that the alt folder is needed to be altered for vista,

im really not sure why you have the ctd, ill upload a newer version today, so plz try it,
if not, you can still make maps for us, cause i didnt add any new terrain - just changed it description.

by helping on the menu - you mean adding some graphical effects? if so - could be nice.

the soundtrack, as i wrote i knida did that , but in an amatur way - i just changed the name of the files...

a prologue sounds excellent actually - i saw what the j did on his mars mod - opening video on game start - i liked that alot :) if you can do it - it could be cool.


the promotions are ready - but need to be beafed up abit.

Yeah, Johny-do the soundtrack.
The soundtracks can be found on page 3-post 45.
I would recommend using the song final dream or summon the worms for the main menu.
If you are going to do it, make sure to add both soundtracks as well as leave music from
the Dune 2000 game. I would avoid any tracks with dialogue in it, or cut the dialogue from it if you can. Be creative.
Add music for leaders,eras, etc.

Phonecian: Sorry about being a bit short, I was really pissed off at something so I took it out on what I could.
JohnnySmith: I personaly would stay away from Final Dream from the Lynch track as it is a bit short and doesn't start as easily. Summon the worms in good, although 05_Fear_is_the_mind_killer, or 04_Revolution would be good, same with 08_Inama Nushif. In the diplotracks I put together, I included a few possible main menu songs in there.

1. Don't worry about it buddy. My fault too.
2. I really don't care who does the soundtrack, all I care about is that it gets done with good effort involved.
3. I'm fine with experimentation, but I wouldn't advise releasing anymore versions with messed up A.I. and maps.

Yeah, I'm playing V.31 right now and the same errors occurs as the previous version:
no starting scout (soldier)

and this.... the only way I can get around it is to use hotkeys-after that the unit acts normal again. Its really annoying.

Would you want an animated menu? If you look at the WoC menu I did it. I guess you would not be interested if the planet itself was rotating on the main menu. I may not be able to do an animated one or one with effects. It just depends what I find made so far.
 
Keldath/Tholish: I was thinking a bit about that error, and I've had it happen to me when I direct to a bad or non existant piece of art. Tholish, perhaps you don't have all the nescesary art pieces.
JohnnySmith: Phonecian already made a main menu background, although if you have time and the inclenation, I think a reskin of the Vanilla menu where earth is turned into Dune would work.
As to the soundtrack, you don't need to do leader tracks, I did those a while ago.
 
Well here is the WoC main menu. I have a spinning globe on it I mean. I could make a spinning dune planet if wanted. Of course change the background to space I mean.

i have indeed used the unitai,
the thing is - setting a naval transport - is easy - like the vanilla, but once allterrain gets in...bang it wont do nothing.

thanks alot for the ff2 tip - ill look deep into it - maybe ill get someone from their team to help with this.

anything is welcomed, an animated opening screen, if you can intefrate something to the worm picture, go ahead, suprise me :)

yeah i know - i toyed alot with the starting thing,
i got over this by adding a free unit class to the civilizationinfo.xml of a scout, and the problem was solved, but, another one poped out, sometimes the scout that couldnt go on desert - would start on desert - thus it was immobolized to its tile which he started upon desert....
but i got over it again by adding a scout - miniscout that can be build realy fast and cheap on city once you established it - 1 scout per player so the ai and human wont build tons of it, try it.

how did you get around it with hotkeys???

well im 95 % convinced to go with sand sea and separated sea and land units , i think it will give the best game exp, along with a nicer terrain look of water sand sea then the current map - dune.

ill have to wait to varus to complete his map script and see what tholish can come up with.


besides that ill create the two options for testing and sea how th ai reacts,
also, ill sea if theres anything i can barrow from ff2 - hopefully, they have the answer form allterrain units.

Ajidica. we will have to wait on tholish report, and hope that he managed to play it.

Well that is why I am asking with the globe. Would you want to not have the current main menu and have an animated main menu instead with Dune spinning? Just asking more or less would anything at all different on the main menu. Or all you guys set on the current one?

And some open scene that has some of the Lynch movie prologue scene if I can figure one out?
 
I think main menu on whether it is animated or not is up to you, although if you could throw together a quick one so we could see might be nice.
Since I don't recall any good nararating scenes from the new Dune movie, Irulans from the old one would be the best bet, unless one of the video games has a better intro.
 
I would like a globe of dune rather than the worm.
Keldath, the game is almost unplayable-I want to make sea buildings like weather scanner and imperial space port but I cant.
The game is buggy with this attempt at all-terrain stuff.
Can you send me a version today with seperated land and sea stuff so I can actually play the game.
And this unit selecting bug is really annoying-what is causing this-the terrain?
Just for the sake of being able to play the game get rid of this all-terrain stuff and set it aside to experiment with later.
Make it vanilla, send it to me, and I play and then I'm happy cause I can play.
 
Well look at the one I uploaded. Would that planet do with a dune texture if I move in the center and make a space background?
 
Improvements need to be inside cultural borders to be built except for forts. Perhaps theres an XML tag that allows that. I havent done improvement modding since warlords a while ago, and I know Firaxis changed alot of that stuff for some of their mods.
The unit selecting issue sounds like it is due to python. Keldath, what python files have you modder or sdk files changed with the exception of Melinkos work?

hey, listen buddy, just dont use the dune map di this:

1. use continets or archipelago or custom continents

2. delete the mapgenerator from the python folder

3. change unit domian of all hover units from domain_land - to domain_sea

that will get you fixed up to pkay, you can do it in 5minutes,
most of all -dont play with dune map, stillwater or inland desert.

if you guys rather globe dune , than johny, id be happy to sea one..

Ajidicam i can do almost anything with improvements - i merged some of jeckel mods - that gives many options to it, soome of what you said is already implemented,

ok, thx Keldath. I deleted the python map generator and set hovers + carryalls to be water units.
As long as I don't use old settings like dune map, very low etc. etc. the game runs.
The music is cool too.
I'll play a game and let you know how it goes.

Edit: the selecting bug still exists. What the heck is causing this.
At least I can build water buildings and transport units across the sandsea.

Keldath, looks like you have a lot of work ahead of you. You gotta fix these bugs, reorganize units into land and sea units.
I would recommend giving heavy hover +50% attack against carryall--while keeping their weak strength-that way they become cheap units to deploy against carryall as opposed to a unit that just kills carryall instantly. Carryalls should be tough to kill.
You also gotta get rid of the attack bonuses against hovers, and hovers attack bonus against land units since they are not land units anymore. change A.I. priority etc. etc. You also have to increase hover movement since they are water units now.

there is also a small diplomacy bug that isnt a big deal, but you have to select "lets discuss something else" everytime you want to say goodbye to them. there should be a "lets discuss something else" and "farewell" on the same screen.

everyone once in a while the selecting bug wont show up, but most of the time it does. It might be a certain game setting or map type that causes this. I dunno-but it's really really annoying.

I found yet another bug. Workers will not work on improvements in desert. I found spice in the desert and I could not work it which was really really annoying. Also Inkvine was on sandsea and my workboat wouldnt work it.
I changed the worker file to this:

This happens every once in a while for no apparent reason.

oh and the A.I. doesn't build more than one city.

hi....

1. the selecting thing, im really not sure what it is - i have to see an example.

2. yeah i know anout the unit values, i havnt touched those when i changed them to water - i wanted to see first the ai behavior.

3. forgot to tell you that i added to almost everyunit an immpassable terrain = desert -its an adaptation to the dune map -you can also delete this.

4. the same goes for the native terrain.

5. the picture shows me that you have unit naming option as on - this option must be off, cause it will sure cause problems - cause it wont fiind the names of units - cause i changed them all - ill remove that tab from the bug menu,
you can access it by pressing - ctrl +alt+o.

6. the ai builds only one city, damn...i have no idea why this is happening, in the stillwater map and the inland map it did build more then one city,
i guess its gotta do to the terrain stuff that needs to be deleted.


try to edit as much as you can cause i dont think ill have the time to do so before the weekend.


on the priviuos game when you won - the ai did ok right? more then one city?
